Greens Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
While the vegetarian dishes were quite tasty, I will say that Greens has become way too overpriced. The service was incredibly slow which was disappointing and it was a Sunday night when it wasn't too busy. I'm sorry to see this change as I've gone to Greens many times before. They definitely need to make it more affordable.
We were half hour early for our reservation and were seated fairly quickly. No more window tables available, but we were seated close to a window still with a nice view of the water and harbor. Excellent service, especially because we had some dietary restrictions, the waiter was very patient and helpful. Food was delicious, we had the green curry and mesquite grilled brochettes (tofu and vegetables) for main dishes. The brochettes came with a beautiful brown rice pilaf and a cabbage salad, but very good; the serving, with 2 skewers was quite big. We also had the spring rolls, which were also very good as an appetizer and a the butter lettuce with fruit and blue cheese- a nice balance. As vegetarians and healthy eaters, it was wonderful to be in a nice restaurant with lots of choices that we could eat.
Excellent service. They were very accommodating to my special dietary needs which is very complex and can be challenging. Our wait person was terrific. Beautiful view and good food. Only slight thing I would change is we were there on Sunday for lunch and it was brunch with mostly egg dishes, Could be a little more varied
My daughter goes to college in San Francisco and I flew in for her 19th birthday. She is vegan and I was hoping to find a delicious vegan restaurant to celebrate her special day, and I certainly hit the spot. Greens restaurant has created an environment that is comfortable casual and the food is amazing. We asked for the waiters suggestion and he did not disappoint. What a wonderful evening!
This was our first time there in years. We probably won't go back too soon, though. We ordered the artisan cheese plate, which was uninspiring, and lacked accompaniment (it was mostly just cheese). They didn't bring a bread basket to the table, either, although other diners received some. My water glass sat empty too. I ordered the wild mushroom and spinach filo, which was bland and tough rather than crisp, although the chickpea tagine accompanying it was excellent. My husband's dish, the sweet potato and butternut squash gratin, was truly excellent. Considering the prices, the service and all of the food should be outstanding. Since there was a fair amount of mediocrity, we won't return.
I was treating my friend B- to a birthday lunch before seeing Opera Parallel's production of The Little Prince at the Cowell theatre (most excellent!). We agree that Green's is a restaurant we enjoy for the food and the view of the SF Bay, which we had from our window table. Both of our meals were delicious, however, B-'s had a few glitches. She didn't care for her Bloody Mary (I didn't like mine either), but most of all, she didn't like the dirt that was in the crease of the celery in the drink. The waitress was suitably appalled, and replaced that drink with another which was no better than the first and B- didn't drink. Then, when B- was eating the quinoa salad on the sampler plate she'd ordered, she held up a bite that had a six-inch hair hanging down from it. Again, the waitress was most apologetic and said she'd take care of it. What that meant is that our two lunches were taken off the bill, so we paid only for the drinks. To thank the waitress for her solicitous responses, we left an extra large tip. Both of us will eat at Green's again.
Greens remains my favorite restaurant. The menu always has many choices that I want to select . No matter what I choose, it's always great. Although Greens is a vegetarian restaurant, it first was recommended to me many years ago by someone who eats meat. I have brought many non-vegetarians here, and all of them have been delighted.
How is it possible to come up with yet another superlative for Greens? It is everything good that it always has been-the view, the service, the food. My friend and I had early theater tickets -(Opera Parallel-equally wonderful). Not only did everything move smoothly and gracefully but we had time for the best dessert ever. What a lovely time!
Greens Restaurant for our friends local to the Bay area reunion with one visiting North Carolinian. The commute to the restaurant was about 45 min. for each of us from Marin County, Oakland and Menlo-Park. No worries about parking upon arrival. Great seat with a view by the window, especially appreciated by our non-local. Four of shared our waiter Max's recommendations of two appetizers, three entrees, one dessert accompanied by a red wine. Fresh spring roll, warm cauliflower salad, green curry, butternut squash caramelized onion pizza, and mesquite grilled brochettes were followed by a flourless chocolate torte. We enjoyed every morsel, sip, service and view during this dining experience!
I wrote in my reservation that it was a special occasion (my girlfriends birthday), but it was not noticed at all. Waiter was a bit snobby to my girlfriend when she had questions. Food was fantastic though, and the sommelier helped us with a very good wine.
In order of appearance...
1. Location is fabulous, overlooking the water with a view of the GGB if you go before dark. Not especially close to other bars but that wasn’t an issue for us.
2. Service was welcoming and warm from the start. Informative but not intrusive. Also handsome.
3. Decor inside is simple but effective. Nice sculpture as you walk in. All natural.
4. Atmosphere is gentle, comfortable. Not loud or too quiet either.
5. Food and Wine choices are excellent. Delicious food and equally good wine. Corkage is $25 I recall, so worth considering that if you want to save money (wine is $45+) but still enjoy great food.
6. Extra flourishes like the birthday Ice Cream made the evening extra special. It was a shame that two of the best desserts had sold out so book earlier than 8pm to avoid disappointment!
I would say the food was quite expensive, but it was very good. I wouldn’t give 5 stars on value (it isn’t ‘fine dining at its finest’) but everything else was top marks.
Extremely disappointing. The food was good, the server cheerful and fun when there but very ineffective.
After getting our initial drink and food orders, delivered drinks, delivered first courses, so all good, then disappeared, until one hour later, she delivered food for the table behind us and paused to let us know our order would be next up and rushed away. Really? No can I refill drinks, no I apologize kitchen behind, nothing. Simply 100% unacceptable.
Had not been here for years, will not plan to return or recommend. Food although fine wasn’t good enough good for price, service or a recommendation.
