Greens Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed a really nice brunch here on Saturday. The food was excellent and our cocktails were perfectly made. Our only issue with this restaurant is that there are what seem to be fewer and fewer options for vegans. As much as we love going here, I would hate to be force to stop supporting this restaurant. Hopefully things can improve a bit menu wise or at least the ability to modify a dish to become vegan. On this current brunch menu, our server only indicated one or two items that could be made vegan. Kind of disappointing. We were still able to have a great meal this time but with fewer options.
The waiters were aggressive in putting our main course on the table before we were ever finished with appetizers. It was quite aggressive and I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m only giving them the benefit of the doubt since I’ve been there before and had a gr at time.
We had a reservation for 1pm and arrived at 12:55 but were not seated until 1:30pm. After lunch the wait staff were apologetic and brought us desserts to make up for that. This was a nice gesture but we would have preferred better feedback while we waited and perhaps some appetizers while we waited instead. Just suggesting this idea for future similar situations. I will return, of course, their food is outstanding.
Absolutely wonderful! As many times as I have been back over the years, the experience is always uplifting! The view, ambiance, service, the menu and incredibly talented chef (Annie Somerville), - all combine to make each return visit a glorious occasion!! Truly a San Francisco gem!
This was a first date type night and I must say it turned out to be a total winner! The waiter Ron was a great guy. The peanut sauce spring roll appetizer was delicious. The wine was excellent and the green curry was the best!!! Our first date will be remembered for a long time to come because of this great experience at Greens. Thank you!
The food was very good. I can not say the same for the service. Per our receipt, Ron was our server. Arrogant and unprofessional are two words that can best describe him. He gave the impression that we were not worthy of his time. Couldn't be bothered to tell us they offer bread. We were served a desert that was improperly made. When we asked about it, he was certain we were wrong. And then commented "Oh Well." The hostess had a similar disinterested attitude.
The food at Greens is interesting and worth a visit. Too bad their staff can't also measure up.
Sadly, I would not recommend Greens anymore. The food was average, and the price way high. The chairs were super uncomfortable (really need to upgrade here) and the server forgot to put a candle in the desert for the birthday girl. What can I say? We used to love this restaurant, but they are really off their game.
My husband and I both love this restaurant and make a point of going here when we're in San Francisco. It's vegetarian with many vegan options so I love it because I'm vegan. My husband is not and will eat anything, but he loves this restaurant as much as I do.
The food is absolutely amazing! Beautifully prepared, full of flavor and a plentiful variety. Perfect in every possible way.
The service is also wonderful with a very professional and caring staff.
The view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the marina, the bay and the beautiful sunsets are unbeatable.
If I could eat here every day it would be heaven for me!
Our dinner at Greens was superb. I wish I could remember our waiters name, but he was a gem, professional but very friendly. The food was beyond what I had hoped. We are from Santa Rosa and come to the city often, but don’t usually eat at the higher end restaurants. But we will be back. Each course was absolutely delicious, timed perfectly, and the portions were substantial. We were both so very impressed with the entire experience - we are already planning a return visit. Thank you for the very special experience!
(I had never had a Manhattan before and it was amazing. I’ll return just for that!)
It was an amazing experience to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Beautiful view of the marina , bay and ducks along with sumptuous vegetarian food makes the best lunch date. We were hoping to get the lunch menu, but they were only serving the brunch menu. Nevertheless , it was delicious food. Highly recommended for vegetarian food !
If you are a veg/vegan, you probably already know Greens should be on your bucket list. I’ve been wanting to go for a number of years but living in Seattle means you don’t just get in the car and drive to it. So when my wife and I decided to spend some vacation time between Christmas and New Years in SF, we put Greens on our list of “must dos.”
For the most part, it didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere is energetic and open—the large and airy dining area gives full visibility to all other patrons. If you want a quiet, more romantic experience, you’re advised to look elsewhere. We went at night and were seated at a table in the middle of the dining room but we still had a nice view of the night-lit Golden Gate Bridge. In the daylight or at sunset, this view would be absolutely beautiful!
The food, from the warmed spicy almonds served to all (along with good though cold whole wheat bread), through to the main entree was as expected. My wife had the Pappardelle pasta and I had the wild mushroom and spinach filo. Both were excellent!
The only two drawbacks were the service and the dessert. This meal took us two hours to complete—even though the house wasn’t quite full at our reserved hour (of 6:30!); it was as if we were almost forgotten at times. It didn’t appear like this was happening to other patrons as more than a couple other parties got seated, served, and left all while we were still at our table (you know how sometimes you think they “served” your food to others while you were waiting? The wait felt like that!). Our waitress did apologize even though we didn’t complain. We were just trying to enjoy the experience.
The dessert of banana chocolate cake with coconut ice cream was disappointing. Served cold and dry (it took almost 20 minutes to get the dessert—we drank both our after dinner lattes while we waited), it was not of the quality you’d expect from Greens.
This is not a cheap night out so come with your plastic—but we did enjoy ourselves.
Third visit in three months-first was a perfect meal...second time was good, but nothing special and we left being annoyed with the bill being so high...so third time was make or break and I have to say the food was AMAZING! Our waiter was fine-he was way too busy to be great-not his fault, but the good was amazing! We will be back!
the food was amazing 😍 however, i wish the main course & dessert menu had more options. also, me and my family kind of ordered blindly bc it was hard to understand the french menu, so it would be helpful if there were pictures of the food, even tho i know that's not how fancy restaurants usually do menus. also, the holiday platter thing was really lacking. it wasn't filling and the only good thing on it was the quinoa.
Elegant vegetarian restaurant with atmosphere
My grown up children came to visit us for Christmas and we decided to try Greens, which had been recommended to us by a Norwegian colleague. We took the bus there and had reserved table at 07.30 pm. The place was full, and exuded friendly chatty atmosphere. Service was efficient and we quickly got drinks. The small beer (bottled beers of ok selection) was 6 USD and small glass of ok Pinot noir 14 USD. One of us took a starter, but rest went directly for main course. Starter was a table spoon-sized potato course (14USD) that according to my son was excellent.
For the main courses we tried the squash gratin (27 USD), curry rice dish (25 USD) and single brochette dinner (19 USD). The potato cake with the squash was covered with thin layer of melted cheese, everything accompanied with kale. Everybody was happy with their food, which was served quickly, elegantly placed on plates, and was characterized by complex tastes. My daughter is gluten intolerant, but waiter had a total control of which dishes were gluten-free and she enjoyed food and the flourless chocolate torte for desert.
All in all, a waterfront restaurant with lots of atmosphere, informal style (coats on seats), elegant classy service and good food. By American standards may be a little pricey, but would definitely go again. But again, not a Vegetarian place to recommend if you are on a tight budget.
My niece and nephew were in town and they are vegan and vegetarian. they have not experienced anything like Greens. I had been a few times before and wanted them to experience the amazing quality, the many options, and the wonderful service Greens offers.
Chloe was our server. She was warm, attentive, and patient with allergies and had immediate answers and options to adjust meals to work for our group. The food was amazing. Our party of six all loved each entree, starter and the desserts. At one point, my nephew had his eyes closed and was chewing his Tofu brochettes with Chimmichuri sauce to savor each bite. Thank you Greens for giving the vegetarian community an amazing experience.
We will be back
We recently had our most disappointing visit to Greens in over 12 years of going there. In the past, we always had multiple items to choose from where allergies did not come into play. This visit there was only 1 item not the entire menu that fit that requirement. To top it off, the waiter forgot to place our wine order until after we had received our food and had to remind him. We have always enjoyed Greens, but will take a break for a long while given this experience.
I am not a vegetarian but always enjoy Greens on the rare occasion that I trek out there from the East Bay. They are very creative with the dishes and everything is usually tasty and fresh. Wonderful service every time. The space is a big part of enjoying Greens - fantastic setting with views of the GG bridge and bay. A bit on the pricey side so it is more of a special occasion thing.
