As usual, superb.
That said, the chili was too spicy for this writer's tastes.
Love the decor and the food is delicious!
With the sun setting over the Golden Gate Bridge, it can be a chore to pay attention to the food...so when the party atmosphere is emboldened by a fantastic meal, the chef at your table pouring 40 year old balsamic over your gelato, and energetic service, it’s a memorable evening. On other occasions as well that’s been our experience at Greens.
This was a 40-year anniversary dinner cooked by the chefs of Greens and the Michelin 2* rated Acquarello. The menu and food were fine as was the wine pairing. The restaurant was packed elbow to elbow with tables and people. Service was slow and the foot traffic of waiters and staff, unbearable, right next to where we were seated. There was a time in the evening when three members of the staff just stood inches away from us with their rear ends pointed to us, discussing something for way too long. Really? You couldn't do this away from your guests?
Greens is a fine restaurant especially if you are vegetarian, but I would go there on a normal day, not for a special dinner like the one we went to.
Very enjoyable dinner. Great food (as always). Got lucky with a table by the windows and got to watch the sunset.
This was one of the best restaurants in terms of value and quality I have been to in San Francisco. I never write reviews but this is well deserving
Delicious satisfying and guilt free plus introduced me to a number of interesting foods I had never encountered before. My tyrannosaur of a hubby also really enjoyed it
Always a pleasure to eat delicious vegan fare! Great wine list and super views!
Best vegetarian food ever!
A wonderful experience!
More entrees on the menu will make the experience amazing.
Waitstaff attentive, yet discreet.
We had a west-facing window seat from which we watched the sun go down behind the Golden Gate Bridge.
As usual, the food was exceedingly aesthetic in appearance, tasty and memorable. The service was an A+ and the view was its usual enchanting self.
We were there early so the noise level was low and fine for conversation. However, by the time we left, it was full and noisy. Food was delicious but wine list needs some lower priced options.
I have never been to an upscale vegetarian restaurant before. I am so glad I got into Greens. The food was delicious and the wait staff excellent. The hostess got me seated early. The only downside was no bar area to pass the time in. If they add one it would be great.
I was visiting SF for the first time, and I saw Greens on a story “8 VEGAN RESTAURANTS IN SAN FRANCISCO YOU HAVE TO TRY”. My GF and I are vegan and we were excited to try this nice restaurant. We looked at their menu online before we went. We have the pizza and we couldn’t believe that the cheese was so good. We asked for the dessert menu and they had some desserts marked vegan and others not. We were shocked! The main menu did not indicate things were vegan like the dessert menu. Sure enough, the cheese on the pizza was cheese from a cow. So I am really mad at the article for implying that Greens is vegan and then the restaurant should have the main menu marked clearly. It was a great spot on the pier and watching the sunset was spectacular.
It’s a special location that treats guests very well.
It was our anniversary, and we were treated to sparkling wine, and a table next to the window with incredible views of the bay and the golden Gate at sunset.
The serving staff work hard but it was just so noisy and busy. The food was good but not great. The ambiance was crazy busy. I like Greens later in the evening. Weekend lunches just don’t feel special enough for the price.
The view is wonderful, the restaurant bursts with energy, and the food is delicious. The chef was trying out some steam buns that were our favorite dish. The griddle cakes, roasted stone fruit with cheese, and pizza with tomatoes and zucchini were also delicious. We told them to bring the food out in whatever order it was ready and it took a long time between our first three dishes and the last three, which included the pizza and two sides, but that was my only complaint. And the atmosphere is fun so it didn't really matter. Definitely a place to go back often.
The food was very good. The peach bellinis were refreshing. The fruit cobbler was excellent. Our table was too close to the neighbors. It was like dining with strangers and listening to their private conversation at high voice levels.
Loved the views and the lemon verbena and peach spritzer was fabulous!
An iconic San Francisco restaurant of the highest quality - excellent food, gracious hospitality, and a beautiful yet relaxed environment. And the view of the harbor and the Golden Gate Bridge is just spectacular.
Always a pleasure--this time was no exception. Excellent server really paid attention to what we said, timing of food delivery and interests. We had a Margarita and a Summer Mint Julep--both drinks were exceptional. I don't remember enjoying pre-dinner drinks before our meal as much as we did this time! The remainder of the meal was exceptional, with the freshest ingredients prepared perfectly. Fun to see that some of the ingredients had been sourced from Green Gulch Farm! Keep up the great work!
The view was lovely and the food nicely presented as well as tasty
We had dinner at Greens for the last night of our holiday - the food was simply exquisite - I am not a vegetarian but my wife is and we both loved it as did our two children (aged 12 and 8). We will be sure to go back whenever we are in SF
Amazing food and even better service. I just learned this restaurant has been here for 40 years. The view tonight was incredible, looking out onto Marina with the Golden Gate in the background and a beautiful sunset it. This is definitely a place you want to take visitors to San Francisco.
This was the best meal we've ever had at Greens! Our waitperson and bus person were outstanding. We had a lovely window seat with a beautiful view of the bay. The food was scrumptious and I can't wait to come back again soon!
We visit SF once a year and always look forward to our lunch at Greens. The food is tasty innovative and presented like a piece of art. The ambiance is great!
Greens is as I remembered it. Wonderfully inventive vegetarian food that has unique flavors perfectly matched. Each dish was a standout. The ambiance is lovely on the Bay and you can hear yourself think! Parking is easy. Dress is casual. But the food with wine is expensive, so buyer beware. Lovely for any special occasion or a visit by the Bay.
Everything was absolutely excellent as usual!!
Every meal is so good and healthy.
A server was so friendly.
Beautiful interior, great views, special food. A real gem.
The meal itself was very disappointing. We had been here 3 months ago and had an incredibly wonderful cooked meal. Last night we started with the salad with strawberries, which was very good and spring rolls. The spring rolls were average at best. Our mains were the curry dish and an elbow pasta dish. Both were on the below average side. The only true redeeming part of the meal was the dessert.
Please go back to your old menu, or get the old cooking team back. Your giving vegan and vegetarian cuisine a bad reputation regarding taste if your food continues to be like this. It really hurts me, as a vegan to encounter bad cuisine after having really great cuisine at the same establishment. I truly want Greens to be outstanding and fear that it may be in decline due to complacency.
I was visiting from out of town and have the cookbooks. I finally had time to visit for brunch and I was good. Maybe dinner is the real winner.
We have been to Greens many times over the past 30 or more years and it is always a treat. The room is beautiful, the service is lovely--friendly and not at all intrusive--and the food is wonderful. Thank you, Greens, for staying consistently one of the very best vegetarian restaurants in the world.
Latest lunch at Greens and I am wondering if they have lost their mojo. The menu seems unchanged from last summer and the dishes which delighted last summer now seem uninspired. Hope this is just a one time only mediocre experience. Have been dining at Greens for decades and this was the first time I was disappointed.
If you want amazing vegetarian food and a gorgeous view, go to Greens for dinner! The grilled stone fruit first course was one of the best combinations I’ve ever had. Every item ordered was beautiful and delicious! The sommelier was top notch; she guided us to a superb bottle which we enjoyed while watching a blazing sunset behind the Golden Gate. My only caveat is that our waitress was very long between appearances, and we waited a very long time before we were even able to order. That said, a “leisurely” dining experience in the setting was not entirely unwelcome. I’ll definitely return!
My friend and I are elderly...he uses a walker. Access from sidewalk is terrific...an indoor ramp right to the reception desk area. Cordial welcoming service. Because it was a weekday and our reservation was for noon we were able to request a window seat. Views are stunning, right on the water. The food was marvelous! After our meal, hostess called a cab for us and made sure we exited safely and were in conversation with driver!
Service, food and ambiance exceeded expectations. Highly recommended.
Great dishes! Our waiter was pleasant, but not always around/available. The view at sunset is outstanding.
We just keep coming back! Always a pleasure to sample their chaning menu.
