We dined at Greens, one of our longtime favorite restaurants, only 3 days after CA allowed indoor dining, so we understand that getting back after 15 months is very difficult, and it takes time to train all staff both in front of the house and in the kitchen. As always, the view over the bay to the Marin headlands and the Golden Gate bridge is magnificent, particularly just after sunset, when my husband and I were there to celebrate our anniversary. The tables were spaced widely apart, which made the restaurant delightfully peaceful, a change from the very busy days of yore; it was easy to talk quietly instead of being in someone else's buzz. The downside is that service was not up to its former standard, which is understandable, and the menu limited, also understandable. The food was disappointing. I was anticipating a more limited menu, but I was hoping what was on offer would still be well conceived and well executed. Three of the 4 main courses offered were quite spicy (alas, something I can't have) and the 4th was so rich that I found it challenging, even though the vegetables were good. The greatest part of it was the heavy anchor of mashed potatoes. My first course was a salad of mixed lettuces with sugar snaps, snow peas, the core of a lettuce -- roughly 3.5" long by 1" wide -- was left whole and difficult to cut while sliding in dressing. I think all this has to do with this reopening after 15 months, finding and training staff, refining both technique and service. I understand. It was nevertheless disappointing, and the portion I ate -- I arrived hungry -- was overrich and made me uncomfortable . How happily I remember the bright flavors Greens once offered. I hope that returns in the coming months.
The view is magnificent.
Our favorite vegetarian dinner excellently procured, prepared, and presented.
Everything was great - food, service, window table. We are two older women. I was treating my friend for her bday.
I paid with a $50 debit/gift card and the balance with my credit card. When waitress returned card she said there was $2.35 on gift card???? I left a generous tip on credit card.
As we were leaving, we thanked everyone and I told them that I had been there many times before.
When we got to the door a man, the manager ???, came after us. In a loud voice, he said I owed $2.35. I said we had a bus to catch (to Marin.). He kept insisting. I started going through my purse for the receipts. Finally he said we could go because we had a bus to catch.
Looked at receipts at home,Turns out they divided bill between the 2 cards. (SAME NAME ON BOTH CARDS!) with a $2.35 balance on gift card. Their mistake.
I was embarrassed and it put a damper on whole experience. VERY CLASSY GUYS - for $2. My bill was over $120 with tip. Was a favorite but don’t know if I will return.
A great place to meet with friends or a casual business lunch. Easy parking. Wonderful menu. Beautiful setting and ambiance.
Always fantastic. We make it a point to stop here whenever we’re in the area. Consistently creative, fresh and delicious. Never a miss in all the years I’ve been coming. And the view is amazing.
Just amazing! John is wonderful and the food was outstanding! Thanks for a memorable lunch. We will be back.
Nikolas was an amazing waiter! He took care of us throughout the night even though we were there after close. All his recommendations were spot on, including going to the overlook at night to see the Golden Gate Bridge.
The food was delicious, we had two individuals who would never on their own go to a vegetarian restaurant but said they not only thoroughly enjoyed the food, it was the best food they had in a long time.
The combination between the delicious food and Nikolas made our night and our trip to San Fran
Amazing views at sunset. The food was outstanding. Service was super friendly, although a little slow.
The food and view were fantastic. Our server disappeared after dropping our entrees, never checked in again until well after the busser had cleared our plates. Unusual for Greens. Other than that, it was superb and we'll continue to dine there.
Overall, the food looked really good BUT the chef was heavy handed on the salt. The salad was salty and so was my main dish
Fantastic food, friendly and attentive service, and the most incredible sunset view!
Always amazing to overlook the Bay and the Golden Gate with exceptional service and scrumptious vegetarian offerings.
As always, a delightful place to take an evening meal. Special props to our server, Chris.
We had a delightful birthday dinner. It was so good to be back to Greens. I have been a regular customer for 39 years.
We were a party of 5 celebrating a special occasion for lunch at Greens (we had come with our friends who got married a few hours ago). I can't decide what was the better part of our afternoon there - the delicious food or the super amazing staff there.
The restaurant staff were super kind, they set us up with an amazing table and even entertained our request to do a little custom celebration by adding their own flair to it. The food itself is mouthwateringly good - some great vegan options. The green curry in the menu was special and I loved their twist to Johnny Cakes with the tomatoes and avocado. The views from the restaurant are spectacular and there is easy (free I believe) parking available in the lot right outside.
Overall, it was an all star experience and I'm glad we chose to come here for a special day.
We sat outdoors
Excellent food & service
This was my friend and my first indoor dining experience since the pandemic restrictions were lifted in San Francisco.
We specifically chose Greens because we have had so many memorable meals there and this was no exception.
Our servers, Cara and Kristen were quite warm, welcoming, and treated us royally.
our meals were delicious and we were glad we left room for dessert because the chocolate malted milk mousse cake was out of this world!
I go to Greens every year for my birthday. They’re one of the few vegetarian restaurants in the Bay Area with great ambiance. It’s such a treat having more than a couple items to choose from on a menu! All of their dishes are delicious and artfully plated.
Greens has lost it’s soul. Too many chief changes. The presentation was sloppy. The menu was greatly reduced.
The food-pea shoots & other greens were pulled from the ground. Steamed & thrown onto the plate.
Classic ambiance with healthy and light food. Spectacular view of the water. Sit by the window!
What a wonderful experience. Great service, warm environment, excellent food. I can’t wait to return.
Short of staff. Limited menu during Sunday lunch. We had a reservation but we still needed to wait for 15 minutes when there were empty tables available.
Great service and food. My only request would be that they bring back the Chai Latte. An Excellent vegetarian restaurant. Perhaps the best in San Francisco. And there’s plenty of parking.
Great food, delightful outdoor seating, pleasant weight staff, Maître d' with the same name as my son. All good.
Wonderful birthday dinner, incredible and friendly service, many vegan options, extremely fresh and seasonal LOVE this place can’t recommend enough, just go!
The service was outstanding. From the moment you walk in until you leave you are made to feel welcome and your patronage is appreciated. The food is awesome and most items can be prepared vegan.
This restaurant is one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants I’ve been to since I became a vegan 3 years ago! The food was beyond amazing and the service was even better. Our server Scott was very friendly and recommended amazing dishes for us to order. Even the food runners/bussers were friendly. Overall, we had an amazing experience and we will be recommending Greens to everyone we know!
The food on this visit was not up to Greens’ usual standards.
It was a sunny balmy day in SF, 70 degrees!
Eating on the outside patio felt heavenly.
Food and service were excellent as usual.
Will it help to deflect the wind tunnel effect of an occasional breeze? How about a solid see through panel (similar to the roof material) be placed on the two short ends of the oblong gazebo, with entrance/exit on the long side of the gazebo instead of the short ends?
Olivia was great!
They have significantly shortened the menu and don't have nearly the choices they used to have. Very disappointing
Consistently one of the best restaurants in SF! Amazingly friendly staff (Joshua is fantastic!).
Delicious, ethically produced and imaginative food. Careful service and great views. The expanded vegan options are amazing - whether you keep a vegan diet or not.
Wonderful lunch spot. View beautiful. Food delicious! Our server was very sweet but a bit inexperienced.
Greens never disappoints. It offers fine food in a stunning setting.
The meals were delicious, and there was huge variety. The starters were the perfect size and DELICIOUS. We ordered more of them even after we finished the meal. While the menu is relatively small, everything was done really really well. The deserts were amazing. The little bakery on the side is a cute touch. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Our dinner was absolutely amazing. The service was phenomenal. We started with, and loved, the Johnny cakes, spring rolls, and grilled peaches. I’m vegan but my sister and mom are not so the restaurant made adjustments so we were all happy. Many menu items are “vegan possible” which was great. My entree was the summer vegetable curry. It was substantial and tasted like perfection. To top it off was the delicious vegan friendly dessert. I can’t wait to go back.
Excellent food and good service.
This was for eating outdoors on a really windy day. No plastic barriers on the prevailing wind direction.
That made the experience not as enjoyable as it could have been.
Not space indoors to move too.
I wanted to introduce my vegetarian-becoming granddaughter to a really special experience. Greens did not disappoint. It was wonderful to come back after so many months and my granddaughter loved it. We shared a number of starters, a main dish (the vegetarian curry) and the cardamom cake dessert. All we’re up to Green’s legendary quality and the service was great.
