Food quality just not what it used to be. Disappointed to have focaccia that wasn't really fresh, paltry serving size and an inexplicable wait.
The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Great food and atmosphere. Beautiful decor.
Not enough choices on the menu. Even from the items that were on the menu, some couldn’t be served
Outstanding meal! One of our best dinners ever in SF.
This was maybe our fourth or fifth time at Greens over the past three years. Overall, it's great to have a *nice* vegetarian restaurant in the area, although I do sometimes find the food just a little lacking in punch. Perhaps it's because I had requested the dish to be modified to make it vegan, but the Meyer lemon pasta was quite bland. Certainly not bad, but not worth $25 for the dish.
Service generally is good, although we got the impression this time that we were at the very outskirts of our server's area, and so we lacked attentiveness a little.
I made a lunch selection that I regretted...it was my fault. I've had many excellent lunch/brunch experiences there. The staff is welcoming and generous with their time/effort. I always leave knowing I'll come back again.
We don't go to the city often but a celebration honoring 3 of our group of 6 was absolutely perfect at Greens. Food, service and ambiance in the little almost private room for 6 couldn't have been better and the sun graced us with a picture perfect day for a walk after.
Staff are superb
Great organic wine to go with flavorful dishes
Thrilled to be there for reopening week
I love Greens. So much love and care for the food and the people who it is served to.
It must have been a bad day...
We had a reservation, yet were seated at the only table in the place with no view out the spectacular window. Wrong-headedly the restaurant has a table at a tall polished wood sculpture that perversely blocks the view. That's what we were offered. We declined that and waited for a table with a view, which 98 percent do. The server was charming but inefficient. I asked for salt and never got it. I had to get up to get it because my pasta was not seasoned AT ALL, a real faux pas at a high-end establishment. Our food-soiled appetizer plates were not removed until we were almost done with our entrée, which obviously was a glaring omission in the service department. We finished our bottle of sparkling water half way through the entree. This went unnoticed by staff, despite my putting the empty on the table at a location it could not be missed by staff, though it was. By the way, the empty stood right next to the pile of dirty appetizer plates and utensils that were not cleared until the main course ones were. Really off their game!
Beautiful view of Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay, delicious food, careful attention by waiter.
Greens hasn't lost a beat since it reopened. Some standards remain like the griddle cakes and chili and they had a great carrot humus as a first dish that is a meal in itself. The mains are cooked to perfection. The great thing about dining there is you leave satisfied without that heavy feeling. It's not the view, which is amazing, that keeps us coming back. It's the food.
The food continues to be delicious and innovative. Wine list is exceptionally well priced. They have kept the dining room’s historic warm ambiance.
Greens is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco--a city of great restaurants! Best view combined with delicious, plant-based (but fine for everyone) menu. Service is always pleasant. The lovely large room never feels crowded. My wife and I were married at Greens, in their private room, and in addition to often dining there, always return on our anniversary.
We were very happy to celebrate the re-opening of Greens! The food was excellent and we were able to enjoy a relaxed dinner together. The food choices were inventive, delicious and highly enjoyable as always.
Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Dining near sunset is a joy as one can see seals, sailing boats and ferries in the Bay. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge as the lights come on is great! Also we were lucky to see a peregrine falcon 200 meters from the restaurant before dining. A memorable experience!
Greens has been closed for four months because of a fire. We were there for the first week after opening. What a fabulous SF restaurant experience! The vegetarian menu is expansive and the food magnificent. Service is friendly and timely. Five stars for Greens!
Food was presented well but just not that flavorful.
Greens is consistently fabulous. The food is outstanding, the views are over the top, and the service is excellent. The staff makes you feel like it’s your friendly neighborhood place, very warm and welcoming. Highly recommended.
Only the chairs were old and soft making for poor seating All else excellent
Amazing... timeless... best vegetarian in San Francisco. A staple since 1979.
Great food and attentive service in a lovely atmosphere.
Great food, great room, great views if you can get a window seat. Best vegetarian meal I’ve ever had.
Just reopened after a fire damaged this institution back in June. They didn’t miss a beat. Wonderful food, unbeatable view. Demerits for slightly tight seating.
We’ll be back.
We come here at least once a year and it is amazing. Get the Caiflower Quinoa Cakes. And get the butterscotch pot de creme.
iconic setting, great views, delicious food and outstanding service. a wonderful experience worth the money.
This was the re-opening of Greens after a fire three months ago. The food was fabulous, with some standards and some new offerings. The staff was so happy to be back serving us.
One of my favorite restaurants
Great views of the marina and Golden Gate Bridge
After spending the past two weeks vacationing across California and dining at numerous vegetarian restaurants, Greens was definitely our favourite. The dining experience was exceptional - fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, a peaceful atmosphere, the list goes on. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we visit San Francisco.
We have eaten here often but were very disappointed this time. The appetizer was fine, but the main course - a pasta dish - was barely appetizer sized. And it costs $22.00. When we complained to the server, she asked if we wanted to order anything else! We had to mention this three times before the manager came over. He comp'ed us the $22.00 but didn't ask us what we wanted -which was food! That did not fill our empty stomachs. We ended us going to another local restaurant to get some food!
Window table, beautiful evening, great cocktails, delicious food, great service from Kloe.
Greens is amazing. Every meal I have eaten there has been wonderful. And the view of Golden Gate Bridge is unparalleled. We saw sailboats, seals and pelicans too.
Delicious food, beautiful views. Can’t wait to dine again.
We had a great evening and were delighted to find delicious vegetarian food, something we struggled to find during our US vacation. The situation of the restaurant is spectacular with views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the window and its conversion from former naval use has been really well done creating a great ambiance.
The only snag was that Open Table wrongly sent us an e-mail saying the restaurant had cancelled the booking, which was not true.
Even with finicky kids, we were able to find something on the menu that satisfied everyone. Being vegetarian, it is disappointing to go to a restaurant and find only one thing on the menu that we can eat. Not the case for Greens. We could eat everything on the menu! Which is a refreshing change.
The service was fantastic! Because they knew it was our anniversary, they treated us to complimentary glasses of champagne and honored our request to have a window seat. Lovely!
I reserved this based on reviews ..... i was disappointed. service was disappointing and the food non interesting... the whole things was sedate and boring.... thank god for the view
I took my dad's friend's son for Sunday brunch before checking out the Geek Craft Expo in the same building. I love Greens. We just had to wait a minute to get a window seat so my guest and I were able to take great photos of the Golden Gate bridge. We even saw sea lions swimming. The only thing was IBC Root Beer was advertised but it was Boyland's Root Beer. We ordered potatoes to share and I ordered the pupusas vegan. Very filling.
I went to this restaurant once four years ago and it was even better than I remembered. The food is great the price acceptable especially for the quality. I really recommend it especially if you like tasty food and eat veggie. They are making a really great job on both front.
Loved the dish with ricotta and spinach dumplings
Was not aware that there was egg and flour in it. Perhaps you can indicate with symbols whether meal is vegan, gluten free etc... 5stars
The pizza was marginal at best. Reason for three stars
Thanks. Have most of the cookbooks at home in Australia, and have wanted to visit for about 20 years. Really nice. Lesley was terrific and took good care of us. Keep going!
