About

The Green Dragon Tavern has a long and rich history, playing an important part in the freedom of Boston during the War of Independence. Established in 1654 The Green Dragon was a favorite haunt of Paul Revere (Whom we consider a close Neighbor) and John Hancock (who’s brother lived next door!). Indeed, as has been ratified by Daniel Webster – the famous historian, that it was in the Green Dragon that the plans for the invasion of Lexington and Concorde were overheard thus starting the famous ride of Paul Revere. Today The Green Dragon still plays host to a diverse and colorful clientele, though the practice of eavesdropping has long since stopped! ! With a full Lunch and Dinner Menu it is a popular eatery with visitors to Boston who enjoy dining in a working piece of History! With a full array of Irish-American fare and a wide of choice of Traditional New England Seafood dishes The Green Dragon offers a wide choice for even the most decerning palette.

I had reserved a table for 6 there at OpenTable-my family and I were visiting from PA. When we got there they said they ‘never check’ OpenTable and was extremely annoyed when I showed them the reservation I made on the app. They said with a party our size and since they were unprepared we’d have to wait so we took separate tables. Not once did they apologize for OUR inconvenience. it’s not our fault they don’t check the app...why even have this service available? The guy was EXTREMELY ignorant.

Our server never asked if we needed refills or anything else-we had to flag her down every time. The place was small and she would walk by our tables but not stop to check on us.

Bathrooms were dirty, neither locks worked in the stalls.

The music was too loud and not very good. We left after only a few minutes because we could not converse.

Great experience...food and drinks were wonderful in a very historic setting! Wanted to dine at this historic tavern for our last meal in Boston. Staff didn't have our reservation down but still accommodated our party with no wait! Really enjoyed food and atmosphere...

The food was just okay. I had the fish and chips, which were fine. But the coleslaw was almost warm, which is not good. The place has your average pub vibe to it.

Green Dragon was a place to go for a drink, beer, cocktails - but we really cannot comment on the food except to say we decided not to eat there. Here's why: After entering and looking for a hostess, I went to the bar and was quickly served by the bartender who said we could sit anywhere we wished - we didn't need a reservation. OK, we sat at at table, kept an eye out for a table waiter but never saw one - not just didn't we have one come by our table - we didn't see anyone being served. We spotted a stack of menus which we studied but the selection on the menu was very limited - no where near the selection in the menu that appears on the Open Table website. Out of the 50+ patrons (pretty crowded with folks enjoying their libations - it's a rather small pub), we spotted only one patron who had a little food on his table. We finished our drinks, closed the tab and left. It was a Monday evening about 7 PM. Our unusual experience did not match the various reviews on Open Table.

Nice spot, if you're compelled to do something "historic" near downtown. The food is a step up (in both quality, delivery and prices) to the other "historic" place next door, but you won't mistake it for gourmet. It's decent pub food prepared reasonably well (although the fish and chips probably wouldn't inspire a revolution, except maybe against soggy breading...). Vibe was fun, beer was cold and the staff nice.

When we arrived there was no table or seating available. I was told that the reservations were checked 2 hours prior and they did not have any. I informed her that I made the reservation 1 hour prior, and she basically said, let me reiterate, I checked 2 hours ago and there was nothing. So we left...

This is a place that our American History can be said to start. Very nice to see the tavern is still in operation. The team was friendly and attentive. I recommend the Sheppard's Pie and for starters the Chili.

We left shortly after seating because it was very hot inside facility. My daughter had wanted to go there because of it was historical value. The entire restaurant smelled beer. If going out for night drinking with adults probably fantastic. If you are traveling with kids might want to consider a different restaurant.

I choose this place because it was marked good for kids.... It's only good for kids for noise, that's it. Also, how do you run outta food at 530p? The kids meal came out very dry and my French onion soup was almost cold. No vegetarian options really.

Don't waste your time. It's not even the original Sam Adams tavern.... That one burned down. Food... Not good. Ambiance.... Not good.

We made a reservation for the Green Dragon Tavern and our table was perfect, a nice nook by the open front window. Our server was awesome and the food was outstanding, the highlight of our trip to Boston, I highly recommend it! FYI it is a tavern so the noise level can get up there, but we would go back in a heartbeat!

Cool spot to hang, and the history was cool. I took my girlfriend for her birthday upon request because she is a big history buff. Calamari was over cooked, rubbery, and needed salt. I got a burger, also overcooked. My girlfriend got the Shepards pie and enjoyed it. Staff was nice and gave us a great table overlooking the street. Overall, fun time, but was expecting better food.

The waitress was total uninterested in our group of 8. It was like she knew that we were Australian and that we would tip well because we don't like to be though of cheap skates. This is basicly true. I would not recomend to other australians looking for a bar in the city. Surely Boston can do better.

They did not honor the Open Table reservation that was made on their website. A large number of people made reservations.

Fun place to visit. Not a place you'll stay all night. Music is VERY loud when they have a live player.

We met as a group of 7.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and the Staff. We were seated early, and had excellent service. Food came out quickly and all agreed food was good.

My son and I were visiting from PA and were up in Boston for 3 days and ate at the GreenDragon everyday. Their Irish stew, oysters, and mussels were delicious!

This place has the typical Irish flair and all decorated for fall/Halloween. they had a fantastic musician playing the guitar. Our luck wasn't with us this particular evening though. There was no one to seat you - one waitress for the entire place. She did a great job considering! However, the kitchen forgot our order to start. Then when we did finally get our food, my steak tips were over cooked. We had already waited quite a while, so I didn't send it back for fear of how much longer it would take. You really don't need a reservation for this place. I am sure it's a great pit stop for lunch or dinner when they are fully staffed.

They did not honor the reservation. We waited for about 25 minutes and ended up leaving. I understand it was a busy night but they should disable this app for a night like that then.
