Our dinner started out great. We have been here a few times and it is always a pleasant experience. However, after our food was brought to our table our waiter disappeared. We literally sat for about 30-40 minutes after we finished our meals. Finally, my husband went to the hostess and told her our waiter had not been back and we would like our check and to- go boxes. She told my husband she would get the waiter, however he never came back. At this point another worker (I believe the bus boy) must have seen us looking around and looking annoyed and came to ask us if we need anything. We told him we would like our check and boxes. He was very attentive and brought the boxes immediately. Another woman brought our check and seemed annoyed by us. She barely put the check on the the corner of table, said nothing, and walked away. As we were leaving it seemed as though the other tables around us were getting impatient as well and the restaurant seemed to be scrambling to find replacement servers for those tables. Not sure what happened with the waiter but hopefully
The issue that evening got corrected.
First the service was horrible. Our drinks were not refilled once. After we finished dinner it took us over 20 minutes to get the check (and we asked the waiter for it). It arrived only after we flagged down a bus boy and asked. The food was mediocre at best and somewhat pricey. I would not return.
Food was very tasty a lot of variety and interesting appetizers
Delicious food, selection and very attentive service.
Delicious food, convenient location with parking. Friendly atmosphere and good service.
The food was very good. The portions were big. The service was great. They have parking which is rare in Montclair.
We will definitely be back!
The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived (probably because it was midweek and the weather was bad). We ordered the mixed seafood grill and salads. Everything was delicious and our server was attentive, but not at all overbearing. The warm pita bread was a great touch! Will definitely be back!
Slow service. Good food.
The basket of garlic pita bread is reason enough to go to this restaurant, but we also love their Greek salad (a small is more than enough for 2 people to share) and we also share the chicken Slovaki dinner.
We eat there often. Consistently good food. Salads are fresh and seafood or lamb chops are delicious
Tables are too close together.
Had a business meeting.
Chose the location because it's quiet, intimate and I knew that the others like
A good glass of wine.
I tried some new things on the Menu, I don't eat much meat. I found the Menu to be great with healthy choses.
I will come back again and again.
Thank You!!!!
I decided to take a chance on Greek Taverna in Montclair, NJ, based solely on the reviews from a variety of food websites (OpenTable, Yelp, Tormato, etc.) and was glad I did. To start, my girlfriend and I shared appetizers of Pikilia, which is a selection of traditional Greek spreads, Tzatziki, Skordalia, Taramosalata and Melitzanosalata, as well as Htapodi Sta Karvouna, which is marinated grilled octopus. Both were excellent though the basket of pita bread quarters which accompanied the Pikilia was absolutely drowned with olive oil. For the main course I had Paidakia, which is roasted baby lamb chops,. They were accompanied by Patates Psites Sto Fourno, which is quartered baked potatoes with olive oil, lemon and herbs. My girlfriend had the Greek Taverna Solomos, which was a nice Atlantic salmon fillet wrapped with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms and basil dressing in grape leaves. This was accompanied by Greek Lemon Rice ... Other than the pita bread - which was very tasty once blotted off - our dinner was excellent. We will definitely dine there again.
Loved the Pita pieces placed on the table and my Lamb was delish!
Shared a salad and took half of my dinner home for next day's lunch.
I'll be back.
Had A wonderful Christmas Eve dinner at Greek Taverns. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding! Always a great spot for delicious food, friendly service and great ambiance!
Was my husband’s bday.
I had dinner here during the week. The restaurant wasn't too crowded so noise wasn't an issue. The food and service were quite good and the portions more than enough. My friend had the lentil soup which she said was very good. I ordered the tzatziki appetizer. It was very tasty and more than enough to share with 3-4 people. We each ordered one of the traditional braised lamb entrees. They were bone-in which was not indicated on the menu. They were also brought out before the soup was finished but the waiter took them back and kept them hot. Overall we enjoyed our meals and will be returning!
We've eaten here several time and this was our 1st disappointment. We called ahead to verify their exceptionally good mango salad was available. They confirmed it was. We would not have dined here if it was not.
When we arrived the salad was not available. I tried to order the (briam ..spelling?) vegetable mix and it also was not available. It seems the chef was not in this day (so who did the cooking and how fresh was it really?). I may not return to this restaurant....
Always reliable Greek food- the grilled fish is perfectly prepared. Reasonable prices.
Accommodating waitstaff and excellent food makes this a go to destination when in Montclair area.
The lamb chops were delicious no doubt and I would definitely recommend the octopus
excellent food...nice atmosphere....decent service.....
We have eaten many times at the Montclair Greek Taverna, and never been disappointed. I had the whole fresh fish and it was great as always. The service was perfect. The noise level is a bit high when the restaurant is crowded, which it was on Saturday evening. Very large portions and moderate prices -- with a varied menu that sometimes makes it difficult to choose because of having developed so many personal favorites.
This place was just okay. The service was good but the food was just average and the feel of the restaurant was more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. The feel was very casual and amateurish. It is best or families and very casual groups.
Good menu. Fresh. Traditional Greek.
Always love the Greek Salad with Gyro and the fresh grilled fish is delicious. We enjoy everything we order. BYO is an added plus!
We try to go here regularly of late, we really enjoy the food. is it consistently very good.
This restaurant is consistently excellent with large portions, attentive staff and pleasant atmosphere.
You can't go wrong here. Both the food and the service are terrific. if they have their mango and tomato salid, it's a must!
The food was AMAZING but the service was horrible. I ordered a salad as an appetizer and I never got it. Considering there were only 4 tables in total I was expecting better service.
They do a great job. The mango/tomato salad is as good as it gers. The service make this place very comfortable to visit.
We've eaten here many times and never had a problem with an entree. However, the special Chilean Sea Bass was undercooked and full of bones and management would not take it off the bill or even give a discount. The waiter felt so bad he comped us 2 desserts. My gyro platter was very good.
We were going to a show at the local Wellmont Theatre. Were in the mood for Greek and found this on Open Table. Made a reservation for two @ 5:30 and we were actually the first two to arrive, but that quickly changed and tables started filling up, quickly. Food was really great. The beet salad was tasty and a right balance of the pickling of the beet and the smooth creaminess of the hummus on which it was served. A spanakopita appetizer was nothing exceptional on presentation, but nonetheless good and tasting like someone's grandma made it (a very good friend's grandma, to be exact, so it conjured up all sorts of good memories). One entrée as sea bass, which was cooked perfectly with roasted, seasoned grape tomatoes and carried a side of Greek fries; unlike other Greek places to which we've gone, where fries are usually wedges or true fries, covered in olive oil and spices, these were thick chips made from smaller potatoes, and they were good. The other entrée was baby double-loin lamb chops. I ordered them rare, assuming since they were small, they would more likely be medium-rare. They were somewhere in-between, which was fine by me. They were well seasoned and tender and I had no shame in picking up the bones to get all the delicious meat. Desserts were Bugatsa Tou Pardari (custard wrapped in phyllo) and Ekmek (kateifi) ... both were standard and sweet--which paired well with the Sangiovese wine we had. One mention: the website and other on-line spots suggest this is a BYOB, but they do have a nice wine list and I was glad, because I had just grabbed something from my fridge and found something I really liked on the menu, which was reasonably priced. We'd definitely go back!
Lovely meal. Nice out door eating in season
Had a wonderful meal here. The service was attentive and the food was delicious.
Wonderful food.
Great service
Restaurant is very inviting
Food and service were all really good. No complaints, will return.
Good but far from great. Very large portions. BYOB policy is nice, too.
My very shy and picky children feel very comfortable and they EAT at Greek Taverna. Just for that I am ready to go back to Taverna again and again! Thank you!
We were underwhelmed.
