We always like the food at the restaurant. We are sorry that it will be vlosing at the end of the month.
Horrible, horrible dining experience. Ordered an entree that was supposed to come with two sides and a salad. I told the waitress I didn't want rice or potatoes and beans, I just wanted salad for my sides even if it just meant lettuce. They try to charge me eight dollars for a side salad and only backed down when I got the menu and pointedness out it COMES WITH A SIDE SALAD. So for $16 I got a small side salad and one skewer of chicken. The chicken skewer had five TINY pices of chicken on it (picture the size of the tiniest little square 'fun size' candy bars they sell now, one bite each or two if you stretch). The 'veggies' on the skewer were thin pieces of onion or green pepper not chunks, one slice between each piece of chicken. The whole thing was maybe two ounces. I asked if I could pay the stated menu price ($8!) to add shrimp to a salad, for my salad, since basically I had nothing to eat. They said I couldn't get that, it was only available with an entree salad ($10+). I get not wanting to sell it by itself or just with a small side salad, but I was asking to add it to a $16 entree that was ridiculously small. They wanted to charge me TWELVE dollars for those shrimp, we objected, and they brought a skewer with four small grilled shrimp and charged me $10. For *small* shrimp, they wanted $3 each on top of an entree. Other people had gyros and the meat was dry and burned at the edges, like it had been pre-sliced and left in a warming tray. One person ordered a salad with gyro meat on the side, it came spread all over the salad. Owner came to fuss at us for asking about the shrimp. I would NEVER go back to this place, ever, and was embarrassed to have brought friends. Bad food, tiny portions, rude management, inattentive wait staff, just a lousy experience. Never again - will be going to Greek Village just up the street instead. We left GIG and went there for dessert and coffee to try to salvage the night, and that was much better, like night and day.
It was a very pleasant dining experience. Food was delicious and we didn't leave hungry. Our friend had found a review on Yelp and there was a free baklava if it was mentioned to the wait-staff. They were very generous and gave our friend four! (one for each of us to try). Relaxed atmosphere and we didn't feel at all rushed!! A good find!
We thoroughly enjoyed the combination Meza plate starter and the lamb shank. Small but reasonably priced wine list. Server was professional and friendly. We also enjoyed visiting with the owner as she greeeted each table.
Friendly service, met the owner, took great care of us. Nice local place. Love the Baklava!!!
A wonderful Greek menu and excellent service. We enjoyed ourselves greatly and will return again. We want to do the Sunday brunch soon.
Great food. Owner came over to say hello and thank us for coming. We will be back soon
Great place for a family meal. Saganaki appetizer was prepared at tableside and was delicious. Souvlaki and gyros were very good. The pita bread complemented everything very nicely. Dessert of baklava and galatoboureko was out of this world
Always solid Greek specialties, reasonable wines and great grilled fish.
We took six college kids here for dinner this past weekend. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Despite how crowded the restaurant was, our server Robbie, was excellent. He was attentive and friendly and all the orders were correct. This restaurant is a family favorite and we will continue to return.
Nothing special, but feels like a family restaurant. Food was good, service was friendly, and ambiance was comfortable. (Loved the salad!!!) What more do you need?
Excellent and real Greek good. Took s friend for his first visit. Truly enjoyed. He enjoyed fish starts and main dishes of chicken and salmon were really good and tasty. Service is always spot on!
The Greek Islands Grill is tucked away on New Hampshire and has plenty of parking. I'm sorry it's not closer to us--we'd be there several times a week. Spanakopita was hot, flakey and the filling was the perfect blend of spinach and feta. Greek salad was very good with olives that tasted like we had in Greece. It was our first visit so we tried the sampler platter. The chicken souvlaki was so tender and so juicy I can almost taste it. The pork chop and pork souvlaki were equally good. Next time I'm trying the Moussaka and getting a spanakopita to take home with me. If you like Greek food definitely give the Grill a try.
We had a enjoyable time with our family of five for dinner on a Saturday evening. The food, overall, was good, but not memorable. A high point was the Greek Salad and olives, with special kudos to the Tiramisu for dessert. Prices were reasonable and would recommend the restaurant for anyone in the North Silver Spring area.
This was our 4th at the Greek Island Grill and we were not disappointed. We were early so of coarse it was quite. The food was very good and the service was excellent. We look forward to our next visit.
Too small, I don't think it is fair to pay all this money for so little food. They need to change that. I don't think I will be going back for that reason. We had to order extra food on the way home and we don't even eat that much!
Excellent Service and the food is the real deal. Awesome flavors. Lamb chops were prefect! Talapia was stuffed and very tasty. Everyone is always nice. A must!
Excellent food, friendly folks and an unhurried atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.
Greek Islands Grill is one of our favorite spots. It's nothing fancy but it's very consistent in terms of the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the service staff. My wife and I have been here many times and will continue to come back since we can always count on a tasty meal without any hassles.
We had a very nice dinner for two. The mezze apps were tremendous- some of the best spanikopita I've tasted. The entrees are hit or miss: stick to the Greek fare as a rule. This is a great place for dinner with friends and family: low-key, friendly, generous portions and some great dishes.
Very real and tasty Greek food. Truly one of my favorite. The spinach dish to start was perfect. Dinner was awesome Rock fish, eggplant and gyros. Excellent service. Everyone friendly.
I've had some unfortunate dining experiences lately and Greed Islands Grill has turned my luck around. Everything was wonderful. The dining area was comfortable and modern-looking. The food... ugh... so good. We had the greek dip sampler as an appetizer and the dips were delicious and fresh and pita bread was perfect and didn't dry up really fast like I've experience at other places. I ordered a traditional gyro and it was excellent- meat was delicious, the salad was very fresh. We also ordered something I've been looking for since I first had it a few years ago- Galaktoboureko. Hard to find, but they have it and it was both enormous and delicious. We were there kind of late for dinner, so I saw one of the workers there (a teenage boy) clean the dessert case.... I was impressed. He wiped down every single bit of that thing. Hard to get a teenager to clean anything let alone clean it well. Witnessing that told me that this place not only puts out good food but is also run well and the staff cares. Needless to say, I will be back!
This "neighborhood gem" (per many online reviews) was quite out of the way for us but proved to be worth the drive. Situated in a converted Pizza Hut (unmistakable architecture) at the end of a suburban strip mall, the mediocre curb appeal had nothing to do with that we found inside.
Inside, our palates were sated and then some with tasty Greek cuisine imaginatively prepared by a very solid and experienced kitchen. Competence shows; we are picky and were not disappointed in the least by the food.
We had made reservations, which proved to be a good thing because within minutes of our 6:30PM Saturday arrival, the place was packed. The wait staff seemed somewhat overwhelmed from time to time, but we were in no hurry and tempered our view of this with the realization that we were seeing Greek Island under the strain of a full house.
With another waiter or two, five stars are not beyond the pale of possibility, and we do plan to be back despite (for us) the drive.
Service is usually the most important part of a restaurant experience, and they were very friendly and attentive at Greek Islands. Plus, the food was all very delicious so they followed great service with great food.
The Greek food was authentic and delicious. The service was exemplary. Great choice to go out with friends.
We like this restaurant because the owner is present, overseeing the guest experience. The food is authentic and well prepared. Service is never slow.
We also like that it is easy to park and there is a good variety of choice on the menu.
Best baklava ever, but the rest of the food was average. Wait staff was wonderful.
excellent first time at the restaurant I had read about it in the newspaper and gave it a try. Everyone was welcoming and made us feel like we were regulars. Fish and chicken were awesome as main dishes. The eggplant dish that we had as a starter was great. Will be back
Based on Open Table reviews which praised the food and described the noise level as "quiet", I took my parents here for dinner. We went on a Friday night, which may have been a mistake. It was very loud, both because of the general acoustics and because a couple of loud tables. My father and I decided to go traditional and ordered the mousaka. There was so much bechamel sauce and cheese on the it, that it was difficult to taste or differentiate anything else on the plate. The green beans were either canned or cooked to death. The appetizer - calamari - was good as was the simple shrimp dish my mother orders. Might give this another chance for lunch.
My husband and I have been dining here for many years. We moved out of the neighborhood, but travel extra miles for the great food and welcoming atmosphere. Favorites: the savory avgolemono soup, the tangy tarama dip, the best hummus anywhere, light and flaky spanakopita, flaming cheese saganaki and veggie moussaka (like lasagna, but much better). Enjoy a carafe of retsina with dinner on the patio for a romantic evening.
We recently moved to the neighborhood and Greek Islands Grill was a recommendation from a friend. We went for dinner and took some friends along. I have never experienced such a warm welcome in a restaurant! The service was great and the servers were friendly, they even changed the TV channel to a football game we were interested in watching which was very thoughtful. We ordered appetizers and main courses and the timing for the food coming out was perfect. When we declined dessert because we were just too full the server brought us some baklava on the house. Needless to say it was the best baklava I have ever had. Not too sweet and very flavorful. The food was excellent all around. Truly a neighborhood gem that we will visit often!
Wonderful fresh Greek flavors. ALL courses were a delight. And the service was flawless.
This is not a "night out" restaurant, more like a Greek version of the local short-order. That said, the food is mostly really good. One big drawback - the kitchen doesn't seem to know what to do with vegetables. Each time we've been there, the salad was drowning in vinegar and the "vegetable of the day" was overcooked (may have been canned) green beans with tomatoes that everyone left on the plate. On the other hand, the mezze are all terrific (LOVED the octopus), the spanakopita, pastitsio, and moussaka worth coming back for, and the baklava was very good.
a restaurant in the suburbs that isn't a boring chain and that has delicious food with character. The spanikopita was outstanding, fresh and not at all heavy. I liked the fries with feta and tzaziki. The fresh bread was warm and tasty. We enjoyed sitting outside, and our server was lovely, helpful and accommodating.
We lived in Greece for 2 years (we're not Greek) and this place is as close as we've come to an authentic taverna. We brought our 2 kids with us (2 and 4) and they loved it as well. We sat outside on the private shaded patio on a beautiful day. Fresh seafood delivery day is Friday. Everything we tried was wonderful except the octopus was tough. I suggest the restaurant use baby octopus instead.
The huge slice of baklava for desert was the best we've had in the US.
We will definitely be back soon.
While the ambience and staff were perfectly acceptable, the food was fair. The soup was served almost cold, and the Greek Moussaka was nothing special ( and cold.) The green beans were seriously over cooked. I shared this information with the server. The best thing was the baklava, which was made there in the restaurant. This would be a perfect place if you wanted to have coffee and baklava or just a Greek salad. The cost of the meal was extremely overpriced for what was provided. If I just wanted dessert and coffee, or a Greek salad I would consider returning for those.
I chose Greek Islands Grill for the good reviews, the varied menu, and its proximity to my guests. My friends and I were greeted by our server. We began with Greek olives with feta. The house salads and the entrees can quickly after the appetizer. My friends enjoyed kebabs and veggie moussaka while I had the pecan encrusted trout. Between courses, our server checked in on us and even told us an amusing story. The desserts topped the meal off especially the chocolate fudge cake. The bottle of wine we had ordered at the beginning, held its own with each course. On our way out, we asked about the change in table set up. Our server explained that the restaurant has a weekend brunch. That's something to keep in mind.
Great restaurant and even better waitress and service. We loved it. Not too mention the food was great!!!
The food here is always great! I had the chicken shish kabob - char grilled and delicious. The bread was warm and toasty. And we had delicious salad. I have also gone to the buffets, here, and they are outstanding.
We sat outside just to welcome in the Spring. Good food. Good service. We had a nice early dinner.
