We had breakfast here on St. Patrick's Day, and it was the BEST place to view the river being dyed green while comfortably dining. The city views are panoramic and amazing. We had the buffet, which was delicious and hot, and offered a large variety of choices. The staff was very accommodating of our large family with small children. I highly recommend!
Location convenient, but food ok. With a menu this small and a dining room only 1/4 full at lunch, it took too long to get served.
Family weekend getaway in the city. Perfect place for breakfast
Great service and venue was picturesque
We ate here for brunch after a stay at the Renaissance. The menu options were good and they offered a buffet. The buffet was more expensive but the quality of the food was fantastic. Two in our party ordered off the menu and were very happy with their meals. We had a table overlooking the river which was great. The restaurant is bright and modern. The service was really friendly and attentive. I would definitely return.
The SLOWEST service I have ever seen in my life. Ordered simple stuff, still waiting for it 40 minutes later. No "your meal will be out in a few minutes, "no "Sorry, we're really slammed," no "can I get you more water or soda?" They just left us to sit. I had to get up--not once but twice--and inquire where the heck our food was. Not going there ever again. And the food, when it came, it was substandard.
My friend and I work downtown, and wanted to try some place new for lunch. We were happily surprised that we could get a noon reservation at Great Street, figuring it was our lucky day. We were mistaken. Let me start by saying the restaurant is beautiful, with views of the river and boat traffic, and it's a great place for people watching, but it was practically empty. That should have been our first clue. Second, even with a fairly limited menu, they managed to mess up our food. We both ordered the same thing - cheeseburger without bacon, and fries - the only difference being the temperature (one medium, one well-done). Hers came as ordered, mine came with bacon on it. They were the same order - how do you mess that up?? Service was mediocre, the burgers were bland and boring, and the bill (no drinks or appetizers) was $35 - for burgers and fries. Don't waste your time on this place - there are so many great restaurants to choose from, and this isn't one of them.
Very nice atmosphere, everyone in our group loved and enjoyed their salads or other lunch meals. Salad size was generous and filling. Service was great too!
Not sure why no one else knows about this place! Even though it's in a hotel, the food is great and the view outstanding. Great place to take an out of towner to see the city. The whole room is beautiful. Check it out!
i ordered the caesar salad and the lettuce was almost white and hard -- the worst part of romaine. It ruined the lunch for me. Why use the worst food if the restaurant is almost empty?
The room is lovely. It overlooks Wacker Drive and the river. Even though it was gray and rainy the view was beautiful. While we only had sandwiches (or handhelds as they're known nowadays), they were delicious. The bread was fresh and the ingredients were plentiful and fresh as well. The odd thing is the room was entirely empty except for my colleague and me. We were told they only serve breakfast and lunch as they host evening events in the room. If you're looking for a spot to have a quiet, delectable lunch with a view, I highly recommend Great Street!
Great Street? Great view for sure...great food and service? Not so much... Everything was "OK" but if you are in the city you expect more. Food and service were what I define as unrefined and sloppy. Take it from me and take a take a pass on this place.
Easy breakfast spot, close to the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, good views, buffet and menu choices.
Great Street is Great again (at least for us!). We used to eat here fairly regularly as it was on our list of places to dine prior to going to the Goodman Theatre and for any occasion when wanted good food and a place to converse. We stopped eating here when it stopped dinner service and when we got tired of the menu. I am happy to say that, after a long hiatus, our recent visit was very much a success. The restaurant's recently revised menu has many interesting choices (from typical lunch items such as sandwiches and salads to dinner-type entrees), and the food we had was well-prepared and tasty too. Service was also very good. The view of the city and river is wonderful, and it's just a comfortable, enjoyable place to dine despite the size of the space. The biggest drawback for us is that it still only serves breakfast and lunch. We'll definitely be back sooner than later.
Limited menu & very heavy outside of salads. Food was well prepared & tasty. Attentive service.
Went there for a Mother's Day brunch. This is a hotel restaurant, I believe the Renaissance. The place was surprisingly quiet at noon, primarily hotel guests. This was probably expected by restaurant management, thus the brunch buffet was a bit humble. No carving station (just some pre-sliced deli turkey and ham), and no egg omelet station. There was some cold sliced salmon with fixings, tasty enough. Several selections meat, a potato dish and scrambled eggs in covered warming trays, no complaints there, eggs were kept fresh enough. Below-average dessert selections, about 5-7 different choices.
Pros: Very relaxed pleasant environment for a Mother's day, with great views of the river. Attentive service as a result. Price was $28/person without mimosas ($35 with). Not bad but I'd rather pay more for better selection.
Cons: Sparse selection compared with other Mother's day brunch buffets. As a result, half the party opted for ala carte menu. Two ordered burger plates, medium, however the meat appeared to be a stack of fried frozen patties, making it extremely difficult to cook to anything less than well done. Would not recommend this item.
My family went on a late Sunday morning. My kids ordered breakfast off the kids menu, I had the breakfast buffet, and my husband ordered a burger. The kids got their food quickly and my husband waited for a long time for his burger and when it arrived, he realized it was not the burger he ordered. The rest of our family was done eating by the time he was served the correct burger (which they did remove from the bill). The kids enjoyed their pancakes and waffles, but the only thing worth having on the buffet was a made to order omelet and fruit. Everything else was either dry (baked goods) or incredibly greasy (meats and potatoes). It was hard paying $27 for an omelet and fruit. It was a great view, but many tables we could see were empty but not bussed. There were only a couple of tables with diners but a messy dining room.
A great experience at Great Street! We were able to conduct a business meeting without sacrificing service, quality, or atmosphere.
One of the best kept secrets in the Chicago Loop. Excellent menu, reasonable prices and comfortable dining room with sufficient space between tables that your conversations won't be overheard. Will become a regular here.
Good Fair - Great View
Liked the breakfast options
It was OK, eggs benedict were very good. 1 person that was with us had the buffet and she's 11 yrs old. thought the price ($28.00) for an 11yr was high. They must of been short of help because tables were not been bussed . Service was good, and the host was very pleasant.
NOT SO GREAT.
Sadly, we had changed our 12:30 p.m. Reservation to a 1:00 p.m. Reservation (as open table allowed, I thought) yet when we arrived at 12:50 p.m. they said they were closing, that they close down at 1:00 p.m. for lunch.
Since we were staying at the Renaissance Hotel and it was bitter cold we wanted to stay inside, so I asked for alternatives within the Hotel and she told me to "go upstairs to the restaurant called Raised". So I did. They told me THEY do not open until 2:00 p.m. Now I'm a bit miffed because it is apparent that the two restaurant staff people do not know schedules and obviously do not communicate with one another. We ended up eating a mediocre sandwich in the lobby of the hotel by the drafty front doors.
Great location for business lunch. Excellent salad Noissesse (so?(
We were in Chicago and this place has a fantastic view to the river. The restaurant staff is excellent they treat their customers like VIP's.
That Great Street Restaurant has the most beautiful panoramic view of the Chicago River and surrounding area. The service is very good. However, the food is just okay at best.
Great view of river. Very good restaurant to be in hotel.
The server was less than accommodating with ordering the breakfast meal I wanted. 2 eggs scrambled and a pancake on the side. The only thing they had on the menu that was close was 2 eggs with toast and sausage/ bacon/ chicken sausage. I asked if I could substitute the meat for one pancake, and he said no, but I could order a pancake entrée for another 12 bucks. 30 bucks for 2 scrambled eggs and one pancake seemed a little ridiculous.
Then the décor, ugh. Old old old hotel. The lobby is cool. they just opened a roof deck restaurant, but this great street restaurant is not the right name. should be shabby street.
Set up a breakfast meeting at Great Street and it was a perfect venue. Great breakfast menu, and food came out great. The waiter and server sensed we were having a serious conversation so they were attentive but kept their distance. But service never suffered.
Very impressed. Will be back
The atmosphere was amazing as well as the view! Our server was very attentive and friendly.
We made reservations for lunch only to arrive and find out they didn't serve lunch.
Very nice salads and tables overlooking Wacker and the Chicago River have great views. Prices in line with other restaurants not located in a hotel. Server disappeared for long stretches during a not-at-all-busy lunch hour.
Service was terrible - waited 45 minutes to get our meal even though we chased them down. only 6 tables full!! Need to also tell people that the restaurant is in the Renaissance Hotel as there is no signage at street level.
Do not have lunch here until they have completed construction. The jackhammers were raging throughout lunch. It was very difficult to have a conversation or enjoy the meal.
The food and service was great here, but the Open Table listing did not make clear that this restaurant was actually inside a hotel. Be aware of this if you go; there is no signage inside the Marriott Renaissance lobby, and the restaurant is upstairs and tucked in a corner.
Once you find it, though, the food is great and you can sit overlooking Wacker Drive and the River, which is very pleasant.
We went there for Sunday brunch, reserved seats by the window for 9 am. We ordered 4 items for 5 people and shared, and I am glad we did. It was not only cheaper than buffet, but also more than enough food for 5 people. Our server was friendly and polite. The restaurant was beautiful, and we had a very nice morning at Great Street.
This has been my go-to place for breakfast and lunch for many years! They recently refreshed the space and it is great! Terrific place to meet groups, enjoy a leisure breakfast or lunch. The staff is good, many are long-timers so they strive to exceed your expectations!
Great treatment even tho we were late for our noon reservation! ( metro late train) also made sure we were on time for our play! Great lunch enhanced by beautiful view! We did call & advise of our transportation delay!
We enjoyed it !!
Excellent server and wonderful view. Delicious cocktail concoctions and appetizers. Overall, pleasant experience. Would recommend this restaurant for a quiet and romantic dinner.
The best part of the restaurant is the terrific view of the city. The menu is very limited and pricey. I ordered the Caesar kale salad, with chicken :kale was the only green and the flavor was very strong. The menu is very foodie in content :the offerings for traditional dining are nonexistent. We enjoyed the view but will not return.
Good for pre-theatre dining. Nice view. Service was not great.
