We had three different entrees and all were very good. Our server was attentive and watched to see our needs were bein taken care of. The noise level in the restaurant was a little high.
I ordered the $36 ribeye which had great flavor but was tough. When I expressed this to the waiter he agreed and said he thinks the flat iron which is less expensive is much better. The ribeye is tough. I would have expected the recommendation when placing the order and would have thought they could have compensated us in some way for the tough $36 steak.
This was literally the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. We had to wait 30 minutes for someone to come to our table, after we asked for a server. It took us 45 minutes to get our food, and over half of us had lukewarm to cold food.
There was never any managerial involvement, nor was our server apologetic in any way. I come from a restaurant background and this was the absolute worst!!!
Great service, delicious food
I had made a reservation. We were seated immediately. Our server was both courteous and knowledgeable. Our meals were delicious and reasonably priced.
Lunch was very good, but the restaurant gets very noisy.
Our server was amazing and the food was not only delicious but came out very quickly! Well done to the kitchen and service staff.
We had a party of 21, which included 5 kids for an 85th birthday brunch. GNT was a great value for the food and service was pretty good considering our party size. Bloody's and Bottomless Mimosas were a hit, as well. Prices average $20/adult even with the adult beverages. Kids menu was also very reasonable at $4-5 each.
Great food! Good beer!
The only reason I rated ambiance as average is because of the sound. It is very loud, and GNT could benefit from some acoustical retrofit/sound mitigation.
Service was outstanding. Ask to be seated in Sly's station. Always outstanding!
Never want to give a bad review but in this case some constructive criticism. Server was polite and genuine. Unfortunately, the food was well below acceptable and the bar drinks were late and one was actually delivered well after the meal and right as we were checking out. Meatloaf was dry and warm. Key Lime and Apple Pie were horrible. Beautiful place that needs perform better.
We've been going to GNT for years. Service and food, we've noticed has some highs and lows. We would hate to see it go, so we hope to see some improvements soon. Happy hour and the menu is good. Food presentation and quality have been rough and service very slow and often lacking good leadership.
My party ordered Chicken nachos, which were great. ALL of the other food we ordered was not. Flank steak; overcooked and small portion for a big guy. 2 different burgers; both asked for 'medium' and they were both very well done and realllly dry. Crab cakes; 3 super tiny cakes, smelled super fishy like crab out of a can, and greasy, also there was a HUGE blob of mustard sauce that took over half the plate. We waited approximately 15 minutes for our nachos and 35 minutes for our entrees on a Monday evening. The quality of the food did not justify the price at all.
Great food, staff and decor. Will return and recommend
The service and our server was excellent. Very friendly and efficient
Great experience overall, the food was very good, our service was excellent. I’m used to having waiters with poor service due to my age, but our waitress was extremely friendly and attentative to us.
I think the poor quality of our food was likely due to the fact that we went on Valentine’s day. They had a $100 deal where you get a three-course meal with filet mignon, which seemed like a good idea. I opted for the curry instead of a salad, it was maybe ok. Basically a bowl of ghee with some julienne veggies, but sometimes that’s curry for ya. The main disappointment was the main course. First, the steaks that we ordered medium-rare came out well done. What crazy person orders a well-done filet mignon? It was also super salty. We sent them back, and got another one that was super salty, except cooked properly. We discovered why the sauce or seasoning was so salty, and it was because these cuts they were giving us were actually pretty bad quality. No flavor to them, texture was weird. We were actually speculating that maybe they ran out of filet mignon, and they were just using large pieces of sirloin cut in the shape of a filet. We aren’t actually sure about that, but your guests shouldn’t have to think that. The scalloped potatoes it came with were the kind that come from the box, I’m pretty sure. It was a $50 per person thing, which I think would normally have been a good deal, but by the end of it, we felt pretty cheated. The food that night definitely did not match the atmosphere or the great service we got from our server. He was awesome, don’t remember his name but he mentioned he was from New Mexico a couple of times. This was our first time there, and wasn’t the best impression.
Valentine’s Day special was a great value with a bottle of wine and 3 courses of food but our filet mignon was over cooked but they made it right, discounted our bill plus sent us home with basically a full meal. Busy night but manager took the time to make it right. Definitely will go back.
Pretty solid experience - good value.
We've been going to Great Northern for several years now. Always quality food and service. We always loved the bread but it appears they no longer serve? The wings, burgers and salads are all top notch.
Peruvian Chicken with asparagus and mushroom sides was very good.
Great food and service!
Good meal, easy to make reservation, centrally located in Tech Center near everyone's offices.
We are regulars at Great Northern for a reason. Their food is good, the restaurant has good ambience and there is nothing pretentious about it. Any of their wood fired items--ribs, chicken, Peruvian chicken (!) are solid but even the dishes that you suspect might be out of their wheelhouse, like Etouffe, are quite good. The beer list, draft and bottles, is good. The wine list is good too but there seems to be a little price creep there lately--it is a good way to boost your margins. Overall, however, we will keep coming back for the food and the casual atmosphere.
The service and food were excellent. Dan, our server, was accommodating and flexible. The calamari was crisp with a creative dip. ThePeruvian chicken was juicy and flavorful.
Casual brunch. Not crowded. Delicious food. Best bacon ever.
Wouldn't know. Drove over for dinner had reservations, which we were sat down promptly and that was it. No one ever came to greet us. We waited over 10 minutes and left. They have also simplified their menu and only have a few steaks on the menu now so check before you go.
Our waiter was awful. It took 15min for him to come by and get our orders. We weren’t in the mood to order drinks besides water, and as soon as that was mentioned, he deemed us a low-tip/low-effort table. He also barely came by during the dinner, and was rude to us for most of the meal. He missed a couple things on our order as well. About 35min in, we were very ready to leave. We won’t be going back again.
We dine here regularly and always make sure to book a table in advance. This time the sitting host did not honor the reservation and we had to either sit at the bar or wait 30 minutes for a table. We chose to sit at the bar and it was very disappointing because the noise level was horrible and we couldn't have the juicy, gossipy conversation we anticipated.
much better in summer with patio open. too noisy - could hardly talk to friends!
This place is okay for lunch. Nothing extraordinary. I enjoy the patio in summer, but indoor dining left me unsatisfied.
Food was excellent and service was as well. That has always been my experience at Great Northern. Just the aroma in the restaurant is worth experiencing.
We went there for lunch and to see old friends. The food is good and so is the service. Highly recommend Great Northern Tavern.
They were busy at lunch time, but the kitchen was very, very slow. It was about 45 min before we got our meals.
When were arrived for our lunch reservation, our table had not been set up for 7. The wait staff was slow, and it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The food was not very warm. One plate had a grilled cheese (cheese not melted) and asparagus side that was charred and overcooked. This meal was removed from our ticket, which was good. Overall, it was not a positive experience.
Spent 15 minutes waiting for our server to come take our drink order, so got up and left. The restaurant was pretty empty and still pretty sure no one noticed we left or were leaving, and no one tried to stop us on our way out either.
To say the least I was a bit disappointed. I have had many a great lunch meals at Northern Tavern but will think twice before we have supper there. The service was not very attentive and the food was so-so.
My steak was cold an overpriced
The food was sub-par on every level. What would be a great place is ruined by the food. Six people and we had a variety of food and all of us agreed it was just meh. I regret not talking to a manager about it. But I wasn’t trying to get out of paying for it, I just wanted better food. I quickly realized this wasn’t the place to get it.
I've been to Great Northern several times over the years, have not been there in a while, and while the setting, service are great, this time the food was a bit disappointing, not sure if it was due to the NYE rush or not. I'll give it another chance.
