Great Northern Ratings and Reviews
The waiter had too many tables. Our guests Margarita tasted like lemon Koolaide. Pretty hard to screw up a Margarita. That's just lazy using cheesy mix. The Mahi Mahi Tacos were saturated with reddish grease. No reason for greasy Mahi. It should be clean. We were neglected by the waitstaff, but they were stretched.
Horrible service. Waited over 10 minutes for our coffee and water. Waited over an hour for our food. We had to point out that three tables of two each seated after us already had their food. Yes, we were a table of eight, but come on. Once food came, soup was not hot, mildly warm, yet tasty. French fries were cold. I will say the crab cakes were a huge hit, delicious, but could have been warmer. I think our food was ready long before our waiter served it. He seemed flustered and way over his head. We will not go the there again!
Service is very slow, weird because the restaurant was not full. Food was certainly overpriced and not worth it. Baked mac and cheese, was bland. Calamari was over cooked and rubbery. Fried cheese curds...well only about half had actual chees inside, the rest were fried bits of breaking. Pot pie was decent.
We were seated and our waitress was off to the side cursing about something. She didn't take our order for awhile and then lost our ticket. We sat there waiting for an hour before she told us it was lost and said we would have to reorder. We left without being able to have lunch.
We have come here so many times for lunch and dinner and all has been good, but... this time for some reason it failed. It was my son's b
birthday so his girlfriend came with us . We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The waiter spilled tea on me and apologized so we moved on. We ordered lunch and my husband waited for his soup. He had ordered an entree salad as well so I would think the soup would come but when it did the tortilla soup was so thick it looked like chili. Our food came and the waiter dropped the small container of ketchup all over the floor and my husband feet. His salad was good . I had ordered grilled chicken with my salad and it was so dry and chewy that it tasted as if it was from yesterday and warmed up. My son's meatloaf was delicious he said but his girlfriend's pulled chicken sandwich had a 2 and 1/2 in bone in it. at which time she called it a day and took rest home. I barely had eaten my salad after the chicken taste and chewiness. I know you all have bad days but the place was dead and hardly anyone inside and a few tables outside. We will try again maybe in a month or so to get the memory out of our minds. Hoping it was just a bad food day.
The restaurant was very empty, yet everything moved at a snail's pace. It was hard to get drinks, hard to get refills, a bit slow on the food. We could see two of our plates complete and ready to pickup just sitting there while the other seven weren't done for another 10 minutes. This was not necessarily a BAD experience and the service was friendly and helpful, it was just very, very slow.
This time the Peruvian rotisserie chicken was very good, not great as it usually is, but the patio is really nice, the beer is good and the wide assortment of vegetables and side with every entrée makes the Great Northern Tavern always a solid choice when you want a good, almost home cooked meal in a pleasant atmosphere.
On a Saturday at lunch time, restaurant was not crowded and we were seated at a nice table on the patio which was shaded by trees and very nice. Our service, however, was spotty to say the best. Our wait person got two of the five orders wrong, and the redo on one took waaaay too long. Food was just average for the price.
Service was okay, but the food was not very good. The Monte Christo sandwich was the best plate at our table. The pulled chicken sandwich had very large chunks of chicken. The crab cake eggs Benedict was disappointing. We requested runny yolks, but they were overcooked. The hash browns were not crispy and were covered with a thick layer of cheese. We will not be returning for brunch.
Sad whe the restaurant is almost empty and waiters walk by for over 10 min with not one asking if someone has helped. Finally one of them stops and says "we were arguing who had this table because no one knew" . That makes you feel so good. After that, he got another table behind us and was exceptionally attentive to them. I always enjoy this restaurant and I'll be back. Just get your waiters a list of tables before you open .
