Three of us went on a Sunday night.
Only one other table of 8 and 4 at bar. 2 waiters
I requested a Cosmo on the sweet side
A bitter lime flavored drink came out in a tiny glass. Explained to the waiter. He had them add syrup. Tasted like lime cool aid
Requested flank steak medium to medium well . Pink ok but NO red. It came out raw
Sent back. Half was still raw. Left those pieces and showed waiter who said nothing
And did not adjust the bill.
Our other guest had COLD meat loaf.
Had to send back to be re heated
We were excited to try this place after many years away. Sooo disappointed.
Seemed to be no one there on quality control. Could have been a lovely evening with friends
It was drafty and cold. Excellent server and good and lots of food.
Awesome service and food in a large group of 15. Everything was excellent!
The food was mediocre and the roast chicken had a rubbery skin. Not appetizing. The same chicken was in the pot pie and Cobb salad and just wasn’t very good.
A nice choice for a cozy, delicious dinner. Really enjoyed the chicken pot pie!
One of the seven in our party had a bad meal. The others were happy with their food. The unfortunate meal—an Eggs Benedict with crab cakes—was served with scrambled eggs, not poached. The waiter took the dish so it could be remade. By the time the new dish arrived, everyone else had finished eating. The eggs were undercooked—runny whites—and the Hollandaise was barely visible. The waiter told me I should have ordered something else that I would have liked better. It was insulting. A manager came to the table to ask why the dish was sent back. She was apologetic and kind; she also took that meal off the check. It’s not the first time I’ve had a less-than-desirable experience at Great Northern. Unlikely I’ll take friends there again.
Great Northern used to be a great place to go enjoy a decent meal in a not so noisy environment.
Unfortunately, the food isn't that good anymore. It lacked flavor and appeal.
Great lunch menu selections. Large wine offerings. Super service, upbeat and attentive!
We had a reservation for 5 for inch - but they were not ready for us. Short wait though. Food was very good - all enjoyed their meals (though the pot pie was a little dry). Service was not fast - we waited more than I expected. Overall a good place and I will go back for a business lunch, but would expect a little better service.
One of us had special requests on her order. None of them came out right. The waiter did correct the mistakes. The noise level was so high that we felt like we were yelling at each other to be heard. Food was good.
Very nice atmosphere, waitstaff, and meal.
Good dinner, not crowded during the week. Food and service was good.
They are always able to accommodate a bigger group. Slower service is the usual. Okay food. Decent drinks. It’s bordering on becoming stale for the area. I hope they can push past.
We held a birthday dinner gathering five old college buddies on a Sunday evening. We enjoyed a variety of drinks, main entrees and salads - everyone was very pleased with their selection. Nicki's service was first class - attentive, helpful and personal! I've been there before and was gratified that my friends agreed that this is a place we will all return to in the future.
Great Northern is perfect for lunch. For dinner, not so much. My food at dinner was over-cooked and bland. However, just a few days prior, I had lunch at Great Northern, and it was delicious and a good value.
Service was great. Food was poor. Fish overcooked. Salad less than exciting.
My guest liked her salad but my French dip was a lot of bread, little meat and it was chewy.
This restaurant never disappoints. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. From the time you enter the restaurant and are greeted by the host/hostess and seated; to the wait staff and the chefs, you experience a first class atmosphere. The food is always delicious and plentiful. And plenty of free parking!
The only downside was the noise level. It was difficult to hear each other...
Slow service on a non busy night. 2 hours to get two drinks and a hamburger for three people. Complained to the manager about poor service and we’d like to order another drink. He was defensive, blamed his servers and said they were not busy. The waiter apologized for The wait time for food and drink. No comp of any kind for the slow service and managers attitude. How can they still be in business?
Walleye and chips are outstanding. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive.
Patio and brunch were lovely! Mamosas were lacking champagne but otherwise, very nice.
The food was ok, but the poor and slow service took away from the overall experience.
Great patio for an evening of drinks, delicious food and we will definitely be back!
We dined outside on Labor Day and it was lovely under the large trees. My favorite is always the bacon blue cheese burger and my husband loves the rotisserie chicken. We enjoyed the cheese curds for our happy hour appetizer. Our server Nikki was so pleasant and attentive without being over bearing. Our food was delivered promptly as were our drinks. Overall a lovely evening!
Great burger, nice atmosphere on porch.
Soup was room temperature. Chicken was bland. Asparagus was not cooked (two attempts). Salmon was bland. Offered a free dessert. We will not be returning.
Nice evening out with dinner on the patio. Service was a little slow. I ordered a Merlot that was $8. It was good. I had one glass. When the bill came I had been charged for the higher priced Merlot. Maybe they substituted, & just didn’t tell me, or the waitress got it mixed up. I didn’t say anything. It was only $4.
Great Northern was and always been a great venue for business lunches & anything else!
I was disappointed. This restaurant has been a favorite for many years, so it pains me to write a negative review. First, while there were plenty of outside tables available the host would not seat us on their delightful deck because of a shortage of waiters. Sitting inside did little to improve the situation as it took 35 minutes our first drink to arrive and the food service was equally slow.. The fish tacos were tasteless, the meatloaf bland, and our guest was too polite to comment on her dish. The carpets are filthy and the floor was littered with trash. The bright spot of the evening was our waiter, who was knowledgeable, pleasant and personable. Unfortunately, this very nice gentleman appears to be working in a poorly managed restaurant. It’s sad to see one of our favorite restaurants go too seed.
I was there a long time ago and had fond memories but something must have happened since. The food wasn't terrible but nowhere near what it used to be but the service stank. It lends credence to the old saying of You can't complain about the service here...there is none. I've had bad service before but this last time went beyond anything I've experienced
Great Northern Tavern is a very good choice for a business lunch. There is a good diversity of menu items and I feel the quality is consistent. The prices are a little higher than I would like for the fare, but all in all it is a good choice.
Great Happy Hour and menu selection , always friendly staff.
Fabulous place. We really enjoyed the beautiful patio for Sunday brunch. Service was fabulous and the food was delicious. We will look forward to a return visit
We were pushed out the door as the kitchen had closed early since there were no customers
Food was not my favorite and made me feel a bit sick afterwards, but it could have just been an off night. The staff was excellent. Very attentive and polite. And the atmosphere is great, indoor or outdoor.
The service for food was very slow, they were not busy and many employees just standing around, so I expected better. I also got the worlds worst drink, I told the waitress it was too strong and she just agreed with me. Then I told her she could take it away because I couldn't drink it (I only had one sip of it), she took it away but didn't offer to have it made less strong or anything and still charged us for the drink.
They were very accommodating to our wants - allowing us to sit on the patio and then putting together tables for our large group to move inside before it started raining. The food and drinks were outstanding and very affordable.
Great food. One of my favorite restaurants. Only complaint is acoustics. Very noisy.
