Great Maple continues to offer a wide variety of dishes. Well prepared and served with style.
We came into celebrate a bride to be after attending the wedding expo. We arrived early and were seated before our time which was awesome. Food was delicious and so were the drinks! Only the Temperature was a little warm in the room and the check we received was wrong. Other than that we had a great first experience. Every single person loved their dishes in our party of 6.
Just delicious! Went to celebrate a birthday and its was perfect. Food and service was outstanding. French Toast logs were a big hit.
Nice, simple location with creative food. Food preparation was more than passably executed. The only thing that I disliked was the location; the restaurant is set outside of most interesting walking areas
Excellent food, prompt service, super easy to make a reservation on the app. Only shame is how cramped the place feels since the place is so popular and such a sought-ought place to go dine.
Bathroom music is also on par. Made me want to dance like I was at EDC or something like that
Good turkey burgers
I had not been to Great Maple since the change in ownership of the property from Brian's American Eatery ( a diner which was last located there several years ago) . I had heard it was pricey , I was pleasantly pleased by the choice of food , the ambiance and the great service we received. I would certainly recommend it to friends which is why I came in, it was the choice of friends visiting from Columbia, South Carolina . All three of them enjoyed the food; we started with an appetizer of two orders of Truffled Deviled Eggs dijon mayo, truffle oil, crispy parmesan . I had the Salted Caramel Slow Cooked Pork Ribs mashed potatoes, apple slaw with bacon vinaigrette & smashed corn nuts , my friend Todd had Fresh Fish & Chips battered fresh cod, house made potato batonettes, slaw, caper remoulade . his boyfriend John had the Shepherd's Pie fresh pie crust, spiced ground lamb, potato, peas, baby carrot, pan gravy on mashed potatoes , and their Chris had the Crispy Skin Chicken truffled risotto, seasonal forest mushrooms, asparagus, balsamic glaze & local watercress . The service was great the waiter Josh was helpful pleasant present and not in the way and picked up on the fact that we were there for a birthday celebration and brought a small serving of very good breadpudding with a small dollop of whipped cream and scoop of vanilla icecream . Very good choice to visit with friends.
Great food, great place, would definitely go back!
Long wait for table because of large party. Very noisy and loud. Food was excellent.
Great service and delicious food as always!
Very cool mid century modern design. Nice variety on the menu. Our hashes were great, and service was friendly. Thanks!
Love the food and great service, but it’s soooo loud
We go to Great Maple several times/year, this has been the worst experience we have ever had. Knowing how busy it would be on a Sunday, I made a reservation, there was no parking as usual, so I dropped my mom off to check in for our reservation while I searched for parking on the street. When she went in to check in, she was told that there was not a reservation for our group and I likely had made a reservation at a different location and we would have to wait. My husband and mother found seats at the counter (open seating), luckily there were rare seats together. When I came in and showed them the reservation on my phone they still didn’t believe I had a reservation. They finally found my reservation, but did not offer us a table, so we ate at the counter which was fine, but it is hard to have a conversation with 3 people when you are at a counter, which is why I had made the reservation in the first place. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. My mom asked for no mayo on her burger and ranch dressing for her salad, and sadly the bread was soaked in mayo and she did not receive ranch dressing, but she is too nice and does not want to complain so she just did not eat the top bun where the mayo was located. My husband and I love to share the French toast and order eggs and sausage each for ourselves. The French toast was delicious but much smaller than it used to be, there were 5 blueberries on the plate when there are usually 20-30, and much less syrup than normal that we ran out. This is not a cheap breakfast place and then the portions are cut and quality decreased, it is sad and disappointing. My husband and I love this place and always take my mom when she comes to visit, but I’m not sure if we will be back. Very disappointed.
Lower music...too loud.
Wasnt a fan of the english popevers.
It took 20 minutes to have our coffee brought out to us. The food was great, but the restaurant has too many tables and it far too loud for any conversation
I was eternally grateful that the woman who sat down next to us with her temper tantrum throwing toddler promptly moved seats. That could have really ruined a wonderful breakfast. Great coffee. Pigs in a blanket was delicious and my boyfriend has the breakfast pot pie. Everything was great. Parking spots are a bit tight.
Great food and service, super crowded on labor day weekend, so quite loud. Having a reservation was key, we were seated immediately despite a big wait.
Terrible service, like the absolute worst! It’s took us about 15minutes for our waitress’s to acknowledge me and my friend and bring us water. Waiting for water is the one thing guest remember because it start off your experience. The server forgot about my mimosa and the food came out before I even received my beverage.
I love Great Maple! Even my picky, hard-to-please parents loved it. It's a bit on the noisy side, and the prices are New York-high, but it's still a great spot that - in terms of food and service - will not disappoint. Get the Deviled Eggs! The presentation alone is worth it.
The four of us presented at our 1 pm reservation on a Sunday. We still had to wait about 20-25 minutes. The noise level at that hour was off the roof. Not at all a pleasant experience. We were seated next to a very boisterous group of ladies(?) and requested another seat, pleased that it turned out to be a booth. It was somewhat better, but trying to eat and converse with friends we hadn't seen in a year was impossible. This was obviously a bad choice. The food portions were generous almost to a fault. My husband and I shared an order of the french toast logs which were delicious. I ended up bringing one log home. Our friends seemed satisfied with their selections. Our server was ok, but not particularly friendly maybe because of how busy it was. We drove from L.A. to meet our friends and eat here because it was highly recommended. I wouldn't do that again. I wished I'd know how incredibly noisy it would be. The food was very good. But we'll try another location up north.
The outdoor seating is always preferred for me but the umbrellas they use for shade are cumbersome and hard to position to ensure everyone gets some shade. Not to mention every time they are moved stuff falls down from them and could get in your food or drink. The food is always delicious and a good value. Reservations are a must if you hate waiting for a table. And lastly, the maple bacon donuts are a must.
Horrible service. Our food came out before our Bloody Mary’s. Server never checked on us. Food is delicious however for the price the portions are small.
We made reservations so we didn’t have to wait. We were seated in immediately. Our server was very nice. We didn’t wait long for our food. We had the breakfast pot pie and daily quiche. They were amazing. We would order it again.
Wonderful food but our waitress only took our order and then disappeared. Never saw her again until we flagged down second person to send her over with our bill.
Was a brunch lunch. Portions are HUGE! Can be shared. We did the french sslad with shrimp (3 only). I think 4 would have been nice . Did the develed eggs ($8) for three 1/2 eggs.....they were good byut it was good that there were only 3 of us.
I already left a review on their main page, but Great Maple is so good, I don’t mind doing it again. First off, thank you to Hilary, our server, who made excellent suggestions when we asked for help deciding what to order. The food was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and beautifully presented. We were able to eat outside with the mild weather and it made for a whole new experience. Everyone was so nice and laid back, very personable. The cost was surprising, in a good way! Our portions were enormous, we couldn’t finish everything. Granted, we only drank water but it averaged out to about 15-18 dollars a person.
The only downside to this location is the restrooms. They are clean, but there are only two. Sometimes you end up waiting in line. But it’s well worth the rest of the experience.
For me, the most important thing about a restaurant isn't so much the food, but the service. Great Maple did not disappoint on either. Our server was Liseth, who was extremely friendly and charming with us. One of my group remarked that she was "the sweetest server [I've] ever had!" We hope she sees this message and gets the recognition she deserves for being the star she is. We will definitely come back!
Terrible service. Waiter had a lackadaisical attitude. No sense of urgency.
I liked everything but Miriam our server was really great.
No waiting with reservations for Sunday brunch, even with a line of people at front.
Everything was delicious as usual.
The maple bacon donuts were additionally yummy today.
Great service even with the power going out.
Way too loud and crowded
Service was excellent and we loved the ambiance, but the food was just okay. We started with a doughnut, which although very flavorful he just didn’t think it was worth the $20 that it cost. I ordered the fruity pebbles pancakes. It was very pretty, that’s for sure!! The pancakes were nothing special however. Not much flavor, not fluffy, and also a bit dry. The only redeeming factor was the fruity pebbles on top, but alas that’s all it was... cereal atop pancakes. We would probably give it a second go-around since our waitress was so great (and that’s hard to come by nowadays). Maybe we just caught the kitchen on an off day?
It was our anniversary. The hostess mentioned it in passing. Follow me, here you are, Happy Anniversary. All very monotone In fact, I missed it. My husband just laughed , it was so ridiculous.
Beyond that, our server was great. The food was great. It was just a bit loud in the dining room.
Always good, especially the french toast. Best in the city.
Ericka was a knowledgeable and awesome server. Our food was delicious and Great Maple never disappoints. Hillary is our favorite bartender. I had the smoked salmon and my partner had a wonderful and favorable pot pie! We sat outside on a beautiful day. Be sure to get reservations.
Amazing comfort food, along with some not so traditional menu items. I would return to this restaurant time and time again. I cannot say enough about how delicious everything was that we ate. The French toast is on a whole different level. Keep in mind that the portion sizes are large. I recommend making a reservation; it can get crowded on the weekends.
Joe was AMAZING!
We have been coming to Great Maple for a couple of years, first brought there by friends. Everytime we come back, we love it just as much. Gourmet comfort food is consistently delicious, and we love the decor and atmosphere of the former diner. Service is always professional, and we'll definitely keep going back for the fantastic food and casual vibe.
This is my second time dining at Great Maple, San Diego. Overall, the experience was good with mixed reactions to the food.
My French Dip sandwich was a bit on the salty side, given the au jus. The crispy onions with the sandwich were good, and the salad that accompanied it was good as well. The horseradish sauce could have been better. Something overall was missing, but I can't exactly say that that "something" was. My husband had the beef bourguignon which was presented in a deconstructed manner. The name of the dish was misleading, as it was primarily sliced beef on top of mash potatoes, but he still enjoyed. Our guests had a hamburger, and fish and chips. There was some confusion on the type of fries that came with the fish and chips, but overall both the burger and fish were enjoyed. The only main complaint had to do with their charcuterie board and the deviled eggs - both of which were a disappointment. On the board, there was a very grainy pate of sorts, sliced cured meats—one of which was unidentifiable, and bread that was soggy. There were no cheeses as is generally the case with a charcuterie board. In the past when ordering these sorts of boards, the waiter or the chef will come out and tell you exactly what is being served. In this case it was simply put on the table. The deviled eggs were just "okay." I cannot recommend either of these starters.
The service was friendly, albeit a bit casual. The server could use some additional training, but was not rude, nor inattentive. Given the inconsistency of the food and the casualness, etc. the price seemed a bit high. I don't generally ever talk about menu pricing, but I didn't necessarily feel the value was there based on what we were charged. Not outrageous by any means, but like my french dip - something was off. Can I recommend Great Maple to a friend? I currently marked this as a "No," but only because I'm probably harder to please than most when it comes to dining out and our friends know that!
