Gray's on Main Ratings and Reviews
Staying with friends in Franklin and upon their suggestion visited Gray's on Thursday having apps and drinks. Great Bloody Marys and Mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice. So good we went back today for brunch. Absolutely awesome and the wait staff and service were outstanding.
SO LOUD-is this a bar that just happens to serve food? If so, please say so. The downstairs area seemed to be a quiet restaurant, but we were seated in upstairs bar area. There was plenty of seating downstairs and I would think since we had reservations, the hostess would have asked for our preference for seating since the two areas were so different from each other. We literally could not carry on a dinner conversation because the music was so loud. Could not hear the server either. Will not return unless we could dine in the quieter resturant area and not the bar.
We sat in the area near the bar on the second floor. It was a Sunday night. We've dined here many times, and we've always enjoyed the food and ambiance. This time they were playing music from the 80s really, really loud. We couldn't hear each other across the table. We asked the server to turn down the music but our request was refused. He said that in the bar area, the music is supposed to be loud. We won't be back.
The pimento cheese ball appetizer was absolutely delicious and the pepper jelly was perfect alongside. The shrimp & grits were good, but I have had them at several restaurants and these were not my favorite. I don't think I would order them again. My spouse had the fried chicken and thought it was very good. The chicken was a little less crispy due to the sauce but the sauce was very good. The service was excellent and the noise level was low on a Sunday night.
We used open table to go to this restaurant for brunch. We arrive and the menu on line is not up to date. We also find that the restaurant has had multiple issue with this same thing. Waiter said we have been trying to change the menu for a while now but we do have a few breakfast type items. A few meant only 3 and none of which were in the online menu. Sad to say we left and went to a restaurant down the street.
The place was amazing! I took my wife because I wanted to try something new. We were both really impressed with every aspect of the place. There was a live jazz band that came around while we were eating that just set the place apart from what we're used to. The staff was well informed on the history of the building and the descriptions of every drink and every meal. When the staff says it's the best. Just go with their judgement. You won't regret it!
We had a delightful welcoming meal at Gray's. We tried a cocktail, local beers, the trout appetizer, the fried chicken, and a salad. Everything was tasty and nicely prepared! Our server was new, and didn't inform us of the specials, or the draft beer selection, which was too bad. However he did know the history of the space, which was interesting and enhanced our appreciation of it.
Loved the ambiance at Gray's, all the fun and funky details, though the music on the second floor bar area was way too loud! We could barely hear the waitress. The menu is so interesting. We loved the pimento cheese balls and I had the most delicious ricotta ravioli. I wish we'd had room for dessert nip we lived in the area, Gray's would be our go to restaurant!
