nice place for a drink and some appetizers, they have a happy hour menu that is quiet nice, partly French partly Italian. The staff is friendly.
This was our first time at Gravity. Liked the menu and the interesting wine list. Food and service was good, only "off" note was overwhelming garlic in a porcini pasta dish with pesto. Would have liked to appreciate the porcinis more. Will try it again.
Really nice and attentive server. Two very good appetizers, and one that was really not very good. But when we told the manager about the not good one (which, admittedly, we’d eaten, because we were super hungry), he didn’t offer to take it off the bill, which I thought was unusual given the type of restaurant and the price tags. I’d probably go back here, but I’d avoid that beet salad. ;) Nice atmosphere and a delicious ‘cucumber fresco’ cocktail as well.
Service wasn’t very attentive. We arrived right at opening and didn’t get our order taken for 25min bc the server was still performing opening tasks. On the happy hour menu one of the wines featured was not available- this seems like an easy fix. Server was not knowledgeable at all about the wine.
The food is solid, but the prices are out of whack (probably 30% higher than they should be). That's probably why they were the only restaurant that had availability when we went.
The service was outstanding! Food was delicious - a great venue for visiting with colleagues!
As always Gravity Bistro did not disappoint- attentive service, great wine list and awesome food. This time we opted for lots of appetizers and shared them amongst us. The meatballs, beet salad and mussels where outstanding and the cheese selection plate was well put together. The salads were fresh and nicely, not heavy, dressed.
Friendly attentive service, nice selection on the menu and at the bar. Nothing was 'write home' amazing or memorable but we had some wine and cheese to start and enjoyed a nice beet salad and then a variety of folks at our table had short ribs, pasta, burger - all very good. Not cheap but we didn't feel it was too excessive for the price/area/quality.
Extremely expensive and very small portions of food. Especially disappointed with the cheese tray. Great wine but $20 for a modest glass.
I've ate at Gravity Bistro and Wine Bar a few different times. I think the food is really good, and their happy hour wines have been hits/misses. My only complaint is the service-- I've ate here and had great service, and also at other times have had bad service (i.e. ordered happy hour drinks and appetizers, and then never saw our waiter again to continue ordering drinks/dinner). Like I already said, so far all of the food has been good (i.e. prime filet with frites, the ragu pasta dish, etc.). I'd like to come back here again, but I just hope the service will be better in the future.
The food was great, I especially liked the rib eye steak.
One of our favorites. This was a New Years Eve dinner. My wife and I have dined at Gravity multiple times. I had pork tenderloin which was exquisite. My wife had prime rib which she raved about repeatedly. The accompanying touches were excellent. The restaurant was featuring a prix fixe menu that included more than we could comfortably consume so our server allowed us to dine ala carte. We each ordered the special "flight" of 3 champagnes which made the evening extra special. No negatives.
This experience was disappointing. The reservation was not honored (had to wait 20 minutes for a table), the noise level was entirely too loud, and the food was VERY slow. The service was mediocre at best. My biggest complaint was that it didn't seem like our entrees were even in the works until after our appetizers were finished. The main dishes took an extremely long time to arrive. I do not recommend this place-- there's so many better options nearby in downtown Palo Alto.
Great wine list and awesome good choices. Mussels, duck confit, appetizers and pasta were all exceptional. Something for everyone on the menu. The service was very attentive and quick.
We had a fabulous four course Pre Fixe Thanksgiving dinner at Gravity Bistro. We started with a veal croquette taster followed with an avocado tomato bruschetta toast. For my entree I had the turkey served over a sweet potato purée with stuffing and gravy, yumm! My husband opted for the petite filet served medium rare with a wild mushroom sauté with shaved brussel sprouts. For dessert we all had the chocolate cake with a very moist gooey center, very decadent. A great value for a four course holiday meal with great food, service and ambience.
The food was horrendous on a Sunday night. I don't think there was a chef in the kitchen the night I was there, and I'm not exaggerating.
The seared scallops were delicious. We each had a wine flight, which we really enjoyed tasting. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. The vibe was energetic and lively, without being too noisy. There was plenty of space between tables so it felt spacious.
The company that I was with made it a fun night, but Gravity was a let down. We were seated at this raised booth in the back of the restaurant (downstairs). It was too tall for our feet to reach the floor and the booth gave no support for feet like tall chairs do, so we were all uncomfortable and ended up sitting cross-legged. Odd set up. Service was spotty and slow (and the waiter just wasn't friendly). Food was so-so. Decent appetizers and wine but disappointing entrees.
Not good. Pasta was terrible. I had the radiatori and it was tasteless - watery, soft (overcooked) and the sauce was awful. Wife's ravioli was a bit better but not good. Wine and beer prices are outrageously high. Most wines $16 to $20 per glass. Beers were $12 to $14. Wife's appetizer cheese plate was good and my Burrata appetizer was good.
Not sure how this place stays in business. Mostly downstairs wine crowd. Young people dressed poorly - sneakers & jeans.
I have lived on the peninsula now for about 2 years and this was the 1st restaurant I did not like. I go out to dinner 1 or 2 x per week. And the Italian restaurants I have been too have all been very good. I am impressed overall with the restaurant scene here but this place was below average in terms of food and price value.
I was due for a bad one.
Very noisy, very slow service, said it was a birthday celebration... they forgot. Food was terrific!
Great drinks but inconsistent and pricey food. Frito Misto too salty, polenta too bland. Service lacked attention - lots of waiting for the server to come by.
Have enjoyed this restaurant for years up until this last visit. Not sure if they changed owners or managers but it was awful. Almost empty when it used to be full at 8pm. Service was pathetic. Waitress could not even describe any of the dishes. Food brought out in wrong order, had to ask for things multiple times. We were seated towards the back in a booth that used to be the nicest tables but the kitchen staff and waiters were all laughing and throwing things around in the kitchen to the point where we couldn't even hear our own conversation at our table. Where was the manager? Who would want to eat on a restaurant like that? Not me ever again.
Gravity is a real fun place to hang out. The drinks are a bit pricy but Jose , Justin and the gang know how to take care of their clients. The food is always very tasty. Try the shortribs and the meatballs and you won't be disappointed.
Our server Judith was awesome! We'll be back!
We had a nice table upstairs, where it started out quieter than downstairs. I took the waiter's recommendation for the short rib and it was every bit as delicious as he described. The focaccia with seasoned olive oil was delightful. Our waiter was very personable and he checked on us often. It did get pretty loud as the evening went on. But that meant it was a popular restaurant.
Service was very slow the night we were there. We had to ask for our server to be flagged down at least three times so we could order more food and drinks
The bucatini was just ok. The portion was a lot smaller than my friends portion of risotto. For the price to portion ratio, it was not worth it. The service was ok, not very attentive, considering we were the only ones in the restaurant.
Great vibe. Attentive, skilled, classy waiter. Food was delish. Extensive wine list.
The food is delicious, but the prices for wine and food are outrageously high. For example, we ordered an appetizer of three bruschetta with different toppings. These were not bruschetta; they were each the size of tiny slices from a very thin baguette. The toppings (about 1 teaspoon each) were delectable, however. What was the price for the three? $11. Wine-by-the-glass prices begin, as I remember, about $10-12 and go sky high. The food portions are tiny. A salad of four tiny Romaine leaves was $11. The waiter warned us we could not split it satisfactorily. The entrée sizes were reasonably sized in comparison, I suppose, but in reality quite modest. This restaurant is not a Michelin-starred spot with ambiance and décor to match, but the prices are certainly very high for a wine bar/bistro, which this place appears to style itself as. Great chef. He might do better in Paris, where cuisine minceur with appropriate prices is more at home (but the décor would have to be very elegant to match). If you have an expense account and/or you are one of the 1%, this restaurant might be for you.
I've been here once for lunch and once for dinner and both times were amazing. The food is really good and reasonably priced for the amount of care that goes into the dishes. Nice sized restaurant with good ambiance, great service, wonderful overall.
I enjoyed Gravity. The service was excellent. The food was very good. I had the beet salad and ravioli for the entree. The ravioli could have used a touch more salt, but the flavors in the mushroom sauce made up for most of that. I would recommend this restaurant.
Portions were small but good. Foie Gras portion was tiny, barely enough to enjoy the flavors.
Booked a table for Saturday night. We loved everything about our experience here. We picked this place for its wine flights and small bites. Though there were plenty of people, it was not a rowdy environment. Our waiter was very patient, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. What a perfect evening! All and all, I would definitely come back again.
I took my wife and daughter to Gravity Bistro and Wine Bar for Mothers' Day dinner. I expected that we'd enjoy the experience, but the service upstairs really was fantastic and the food was wonderful. The restaurant is not listed as being "kid friendly", but our six-year-old felt very welcome and also enjoyed herself. There are plenty of great food options for kids. I heartily recommend a visit.
Date night with excellent service! Mike was very friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and an overall wonderful waiter:server. The meals we had were very creative and delicious! I loved the risotto and the palenta with short ribs. What more could you ask for?
Wine by the glass was either mediocre (2 out of 3) or downright unpalatable. At least it was greatly overpriced (1 glass for about the retail cost of a bottle). Food was bland. "Spicy" pasto was tasteless and ravioli with porcini mushrooms did not have porcini mushrooms. Would not go back.
Nice dinner with friends.
Great diversity of foods, fun tapas and also great entrees.
Originally sought the restaurant scene for a place in Palo Alto that served wine flights. Gravity has a few selections of decent wine flights and met what I was looking for. Their pasta dishes had great flavor and spice and I sampled two dishes. Waitstaff was very courteous and conversational. I will return again to try out other menu items in the near future.
Casual atmosphere, but really tasty food. All four of us were enthusiastic about our food.
We went for the first time when my parents were visiting. Delicious food and terrific service. My mother was thrilled to find a separate printed vegetarian menu. It was quiet at lunch and we were able to sit and linger over coffee and incredibly rich and delicious chocolate croissant bread pudding. Will definitely return.
