Gratzi - Ann Arbor Ratings and Reviews
The food was generally of good quality given the price level at this location. The calamari was so-so, pasta rustica on the other hand quite tasty. Been there once before and remembered it for the espresso which I thought was among the very best I've had in Ann Arbor. No longer, it was way too diluted, too weak this time. Too bad. Service was very friendly but a bit uneven and haphazard. And this on a quiet weekday...
After an absence of a few years, we returned to Gratzi hoping to be as pleased with our experience as we had previously been there. While still an enjoyable place to dine, Gratzi seems to have lost the edge on high standards that we had always expected. Our plates looked a bit ‘tired’ when brought out, as though they were not freshly prepared and delivered. It seemed that quantity rather than high quality and freshness had become a goal. Flavors were ok. Prices were a bit lower than what we have become used to seeing in higher rated restaurants.
Service was attentive and friendly. Wine selections good. Lively atmosphere.
Had a pretty bad dinner with the family on Saturday night at Gratzi.
Meal started off well, cheese and meat tray and soups were great.
The first wrinkle was that it took over an hour from the time we finished our soups until we got our main course. The server came out about 30 minutes in to apologize for the delay and then came back 10 minutes later saying he didn't put in the order for our main courses and was taking ownership of the issue. Then it still took another 20-30 minutes to get our dishes. They offered to give free dessert and ended up giving our meat and cheese tray for free as compensation but it really didn't make up for it.
When the main courses finally came they were terrible. The char special was overcooked and under seasoned and came with vegetables that were pretty much uncooked, the lobster spaghetti came with a sauce that just tasted like canned tomato sauce (not spaghetti sauce even) and the lobster was super tough to the point that one person in our party tricked another into trying it and convincing him it was pork, the spaghetti was under cooked (no not al dente) to the point of being crunchy, and the lamb chops were tiny and mostly fat. Of the main courses, only the rabbit pasta was OK.
Food quality and preparation poor. Silverware was dirty, wine carafe soapy. The crispy Brussels sprouts were undercooked and in liquid grease. The manager pulled the Brussels Sprouts from the menu. The main courses were highly seasoned to disguise the inferior quality of the food.
Great food. Everything was delicious.
Lousy service. Had to ask multiple times for everything from bread to a cup of of ice to a chilled glass for beer which was offered
Do not accept the table I fork Tod the kitchen. The salads are placed on a counter right next to your table and the servers repeatedly reach over you to get their salads. It’s a terrible table
I heard this place had really good food and was great for business meetings. I do agree the place is really cool inside, I liked the set up with the bar on another level. After the ambiance, I got nothing else really good to say. I take that back, our service was very good. The downfall to the dinner was the food. I had a cold steak and mash potatoes I really can't describe besides bizarre texture. Being my first time there, I don't think I'd rush back but I think I'd give them one more chance.
We have consistently had a great time at this restaurant. The food is excellent and the prices are not too high. The service is friendly and attentive but not overbearing. There is usually background music playing at a level where it is pleasing but certainly does not drown out a conversation.
Great food. Great service. Great ambiance. Server was attentive Some list ok not great but ok.
The hostess / owner were very accommodating when part of our party wasn't able to join us because their plane was delayed. It was parrnts weekend - busy - but our server was good and the food was good too
Very accommodating when we asked to move reservation to earlier time on a very busy weekend. Everyone pleasant with attentive service. Food and drinks excellent. Loved the complimentary Limoncello at end of meal. Nice surprise. Look forward to returning when we are back in Ann Arbor.
We had reservations, but even so we ended up having to wait for a table for a
lengthy amount of time. We had reservations for 8:15 and didn’t get out of there until 11. There were just 4 of us. One of our salads was delivered without the signature pears on it.
The Sachetti was delicious! Everyone’s favorite of the evening.
Seafood risotto was too spicy hot for us.
We were seated upstairs under the big barrel light which is awful! The light is a harsh, fluorescent like color and brightness, much like you would find in a school cafeteria not a fine dining restaurant. Then we noticed that the rest of the lighting upstairs is pretty terrible, hard to see for other patrons. I believe it makes it difficult for the servers to see as well. Perhaps a lighting specialist needs to be brought in for the upstairs because it is really unsuitable as it is. Putting a big bright bulb in the big hanging lights is not working. It kills any ambiance. Sconces or table lamps, floor lamps even, with a warm bulb might all be options to look into.
Sad to say our dinner dragged out too long and we didn’t enjoy it as much as we anticipated. It will be a long time before we revisit.
Gratzi is a good restaurant, fun, lively and quality food. However, they were off the mark on this occasion. Food was not as good as usual. Favorite gnocci and salmon was dry and bland. Service was pleasant but forgot one dinner (had to wait another 15 minutes to get it) and never brought coffee that was ordered (but was on bill, initially). We will continue to go, but they should be better than they were for this meal.
