Birthday celebration. Waiter was nice but service was slow
Food was good but not great.
It was my second time dining here. This time our waitress rocked. Came on a first date, so she made it special to bring out a strawberry with a candle and said “it’s worth celebrating”. Food was great could be hotter though. Overall wonderful will be back again.
Disappointed in both the food and service. I ordered the sea bass and it was overcooked and the risotto ball it was on was barely warm.
I have been to the restaurant every year since about 2011, coming once a year from Kansas City. We were a table of 7. Only my meal was poor. The seafood risotto was inedible. Something must have happened in the kitchen and this particular preparation went out without oversite. It was incredibly sour, and the only seafood I could discern were 4 shrimp on the top of a gloppy mess of rice. This must have been an anomaly. We will come again, but not likely to order any risotto in the near future.
This was our favorite place to go. The food was AMAZING (like with each bite you were thinking (how is this so good!"). But after having a baby and life we hadn't been here for 2 years. Went for our 7 year Anniversary last night and it was not as good by any means. I would say it was on par with Olive Garden. However the drinks and bread were fantastic.
Visiting from out of town. Recommended by friend and lived up to his review.
My xwife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary, wanted a special place and Gratzi came through. Service was excellent (Nick). He knew all needed details, about the food and drinks, actually spoke, some Italian.
Will certainly go back. This was not our first time there, as long-time Ann Arbor residents.
Easy parking in the back.
Place was fairly empty yet we were seated at the table right by the service station. Server was very good. We have had great meals at Gratzi on many occasions, but this one was disappointing. I had Chilean sea bass, which tasted like it had been over cooked, or reheated, as it was quite dry and not very flavorful, and the risotto cake was burnt, not browned..burnt. My companion had the filet with portobello, which we have both enjoyed before, and it was just okay. The creamed brûlée was fantastic however. We went for a free birthday entree, and this time were very glad we weren’t paying full price. We wont go back again any time soon. The food is just too inconsistent.
The chicken marsala was amazing! My friend ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and they prepare it right at the table with a giant block of cheese. Very cool!
We went on a Monday! Special was half off bottles of wine. We got two of course! Service was great but lacked in some areas. Empty water glasses, empty bottle of wine on table. Food was very flavorful and fish was fresh. Bread was delicous. Will return again!!
Food was spectacular. The fettuccine appetizer was unique and delicious. Our server was TOP NOTCH and highly recommend him - Peter G.
In town to see UMich with our daughter, we had a delightful Friday night dinner at Gratzi.
Our excellent server, Erika, suggested we try their brunch as well. We returned for brunch on Sunday and were not disappointed.
Sara our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu with excellent recommendations for us. Our dinners were very tasteful but the presentation was questionable only because we had a table along the east (upstairs) wall, table for 2 with little to no lighting. Overall we will return, just making sure we are on the 1st floor. Also, we are very fond of the Restaurant's on main Street establishment's and enjoy all of their eateries/cuisines.
Our server and the food was top notch!!
It was okie experience for us at this restaurant, as our table attendant was not that accommodative. Although it is a busy day, few kind gestures by attendants would have made the overall experience great.
Took quite awhile to get drinks and even subsequent drinks. Food came pretty fast and was decent but nothing to write home about. Mashed potatoes were warm at best. Nick our waiter was friendly.
Great service. Food was not good at all. I have not been to Gratzi in some time. The menu of course has changed but not for the good.
Andy the manager and Clifford the server are outstanding. Outstanding sea bass special.
Tuesdays are wine flights, which I highly recommend. The chef prepares appetizers to pair with the different wines. We may have to go back every Tuesday! My husband had the Chilean Sea Bass with Asiago risotto and roasted Brussels sprouts. I had the scallops with fingerling potatoes, radishes, and peas. Both were magnificent. I’ve heard we need to try the calamari, so will have that next time. I’ve also heard it gets very loud in there, but we were there on a Tuesday, and also pretty early in the evening, and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. Our server was fantastic, also.
We went to Gratzi to celebrate a birthday. Even though they stopped the free birthday dessert, their 50% off all food for two people is still a great way to celebrate. Their scallops were outstanding as was the shrimp farfelle. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert and found it dull. We informed our server who never blinked and offered to bring us another piece from their sister restaurant which had more of a bite. What a nice thing to do!
The table was completely in the dark. The bartender took FORVER to pour two glasses of wine before our table was ready. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. We have been here many times and this time it wasn’t the best service and didn’t like sitting in the dark. We would go back the food is good.
Gratzi never fails to deliver. Delicious bread from Zingerman's. Great soups and salads. Delicious pasta. My only criticism ever is the table we were given this past Saturday somewhat jutted into the dining room and did not feel intimate. I will make sure to ask for a booth in the future.
The service was great, the food was okay. Parts of our meal were very tasty and parts were very bland and flavorless. My wife and I celebrated her birthday (50% off the bill if dining with two people) here and it was a great value for the variety of food we ordered. I was disappointed with the inconsistency in the dishes, but I'd be willing to give it another shot.
waited even after having a reservation
The fish was impeccable. It's flown in from Boston daily and is melt in your mouth. This is an old movie theater that was changed into a restaurant and it's kept its 1930's art deco flair. Lovely spot. Highly recommend
My ravioli was so delicate and flavorful I relished every bite. My son had a seafood dish with various types of seafood and was disappointed to find the entire shell on each of the shrimp. It made it awkward and messy to eat. Overall I loved the ambiance and the service. Will definitely return.
Very romantic, great waitress. Food ok, a little pricey for what you get.
We enjoy the restaurant very much and live some 35/40 miles away, so we decided to make the trip. Everything was fine, but to be fair, one persons lamb chops were very under cooked; they quickly took care of the problem and to their credit replaced the meal at no charge with another dish. The problem was it took some time and the other couple food couldn't wait thus we all ate somewhat separate. We all did notice that the food also seemed to lack "flavor" which is a major reason besides the high quality we drove out there. Maybe an off night, hopefully not a sign of things to come.
Every dish was nicely prepared and delicious. The menu had many inviting options. Excellent and knowledgeable service.
Sadly the food, drink and presentation truly was not very good. The service however was fantastic and attentive. The food was bland and poorly put together
Overall the experience was pretty great! I ordered the Milanese and unfortunately the breading wasn’t really holding together on one side, however it was seasoned pretty nicely (could’ve used a little more) and the arugula salad on top with the lemon vinaigrette was very refreshing and balanced out the meal quite nicely.
I had the salmon with gnocchi and spinach in a cream sauce. The salmon was nicely cooked, but the spinach was stringy and the gnocchi was overcooked. Because the gnocchi was overcooked and placed underneath the salmon, much of it had compressed into a large clump.
The food and ambience were very good. We'll return.
Awesome Italian food, lively atmosphere, great service- a delightful evening! We will come here again. Thank you, Gratzi!
We went with another couple during Ann Arbor Restaurant week. It had been awhile since we had been to Gratzi's. Although we had a 7:30 reservation, we did have to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated--the place was hopping! All 4 of us ordered from the special restaurant week dinner menu. The food was excellent! The calamari appetizer was perfectly prepared. Our server, Nicholas, provided excellent service as well. He would converse with my husband in Italian. The only negative is the noisy setting. Luckily we were seated upstairs which was a bit quieter than the downstairs.
We will definitely return again; hopefully at a quieter time.
Came during Restaurant Week and got seated upstairs which was very fun — you had a nice view of the paintings studding the walls and the street outside with its winter lights. Since we ordered off the Restaurant Week menu, we each got an appetizer, an entree, and dessert. The entrees were tasty and visually appealing. Had it not been for the crispy bread and olive oil that arrived prior to the appetizer, though, my 6 foot tall, high metabolizer of a boyfriend would have left unsatisfied. We also tried the recommended wines, which neither us of do regularly since it’s cheaper to enjoy wine at home. No regrets though!
I have lived in Ann Arbor for about 3.5 years and I have been to many restaurants and Gratzi, time and time again, has proven to be my favorite restaurant. The ambiance makes it feel like a special night every night I go there with just the right music in the background. Also, it is a beautiful restaurant with many options that won't break the bank.
Lobster spaghetti is my splurge, but they have so many delicious options. Their pasta dishes have never failed, but I am such a sucker for their crispy ravioli appetizer. Their salmon and gnocchi is to die for, and the sauce on the lobster ravioli and impeccable. Even the simple spaghetti and meatball (it is one giant, stuffed meatball) is also so delicious. Furthermore, their cheeses and wine selection hit the spot if you are looking for a fun date night. The service varies just based on how busy they are, but my servers have always been so polite and prompt.
If you are in Ann Arbor and looking for a nice Italian restaurant to visit, I strongly recommend Gratzi. It is without a doubt that you will find something on the menu that will please your taste buds.
Food was great and our waiter Peter was amazing, it was packed but he was still extremely attentive regarding every aspect. Service was phenomenal.
