We went there for bookclub (there are four of us). Food was delicious, service was excellent and seating on the patio was delightful. Quiet, attentive service, food on time and as requested. We loved it! Will return.

Small restaurant with large patio seating with heaters. Creative twist on varied cuisine. Brisket entrée was excellent while the Short Ribs entrée was just good as one piece was very dry and the other moist. Otherwise very good overall.

Let’s see, where do I start? Perhaps I should start with the fact that my dirty martini was not served chilled and I drink warm vodka with mediocre blue cheese stuffed olives. No wait let me go back to the greeting… Our hostess was the nicest person we came across the entire evening and we were sat in a nice large booth (as we should have since I made the reservation for a party of six), but after the hostess passed us off our experience went downhill. Our server was less than friendly and seemed to be annoyed by our large group and our desire to take our time with our food choices. She did not offer any recommendations as we were browsing the menu. Since we did not know what we wanted for dinner she just kept walking away when we weren’t ready to order and I found that very annoying. We have been here in the past and have also recommended this to friends in the past, so we had an expectation to have a similar good experience on this particular night, but sadly I do not think I will ever return due to what happened. So after I was served warm martini I obviously did not order a second one. However two other people at her table ordered two beers before we placed our order for dinner. Those two beers did not come until our entrées were served! When my husband declined his beer and said he did not want it now- The server huffed without an apology and walked away from the table with his beer. My husband decided on the shrimp and grits dinner entrée because he has ordered that in the past for lunch and it was very good. Sadly though his shrimp and grits were not served hot and had no sauce on them whatsoever and the grits tasted like something from the Cracker Barrel. I ordered the short ribs entrée which also came with grits. I am a short rib fanatic and when I go out to eat it is one of my favorite things to order, but sadly I am afraid I may have been served pot roast! It was the most subpar meal I have had out in a very long time and for a price that didn’t sell me

Samuel took care of us this afternoon on the patio by the warm heaters, which was perfect after a very long hike. He made great recommendations and everything was yummy! W will come back the next time we’re in Scottsdale.

We were initially concerned about having a business meeting being tabled in U- Shaped booth with four pairs, it turned out fine. Although i do not recommended that for every business we enjoyed the close knit area. The food was delicious and the drinks were made well! We will be back again!

This is our 3rd experience with Grass Roots Kitchen and the food is always exceptional! It is a bit noisy during the dinner hour but so is everywhere else. Service was very good as well. We are snowbirds so only here half the year but drive all the way across the valley to enjoy the food.

Food not as good as last visits 2 years ago. Shrimp poboy still delicious. Beef brisket sandwich (too saucy) ,chicken salad sandwich, and salmon burger (dry) were just ok. Runners delivered all our food and drinks, and placed them in front of wrong person. Just ask so we don't have to shuffle everything. Fries are still yummy

We found the menu selections varied and very good for parties whose members like different types of food. (i.e., seafood, poultry, beef, appetizers). The staff was very friendly. We had only been at Grassroots for lunch previously, but will certainly be back again for dinner.

We arrived close to opening, when it was pleasantly quiet, and sat at the bar. Both of us had the short ribs with jalapeño grits and asparagus...delicious! Service was very personable and efficient, recommendation on the Zinfandel by the glass was perfect. We’re never disappointed when when swing by here for a meal!

We had a family gathering with 8 people and were sat at a U-shaped booth. It was perfect for having a conversation so the whole table could participate. The food was scrumptious and they even accommodated food allergies without issue. This is a new favorite!

We picked this spot because it got good reviews ... this was our first solid meal after taking a redeye from Honolulu and then playing golf ... we were a little tired and wanted some comfort food and Grassroots Kitchen sounded perfect. I booked a 7:30pm reservation and we showed up 20 minutes early and checked in ... we were told our table would be ready in about 15min so we waited outside. We saw a number of people walk in and get seated right away and the hostess never came to inform us of anything. I went back in and waited some more ... we were finally seated in a corner across from a fierce heater ... not the most comfortable location. Whatever ... we ordered a couple of drinks and I ordered the chicken and ribs and my friend ordered the rotating handle, a cup of soup and the shrimp and grits. His meal was very good while mine was a mix of great and not so great ... the ribs were perfect but the chicken was dry ... I don't know if it was overcooked or whether it sat too long before serving. Anyway, call me somewhat disappointed ... I had expected more from what appeared to be a very vibrant restaurant.

Excellent service, nice looking comfy place with beautiful patio and choice of low tables, high tables, bar seating and booth seating inside. Very opened and pleasant. The food is what the menu says it is, American with southern flare which implies big portions (plan your meal accordingly). Real restaurant where they make all the food from scratch. Our party of 4 loved all their dishes, except for a sashimi salad which I liked but was way too sweet for my taste. Still it was good, if I was to make it without the sugar and include more acidity, it would have been perfect. But that's just my personal taste, not a reason to remove a star. Food is creative and very well executed and presented. Nice ambiance too. Will definitely be back to try other items.
