Celebrated a birthday, and they exceeded expectations. Thanks guys.
We were both very happy with the quality of the food, the ambiance, and service. We had petite filets which were cooked perfectly and veggies that were perfectly al dente. Service was good although a tad on the slow side but the place was packed so certainly understandable. NOTE: the wine list of bottles and half bottles is several pages long but wine-by -the-glass list seemed very limited. We did end up with an Australian sav blanc that was light and went well with the salads and then medium bodied Malbec with the main course and it was fine.
Fabulous food and excellent service! Lovely atmosphere
We've had great experiences with this place before but that was in the weekend. This time, it was during the week, and we both had the special but it was not very tasty, the salmon was a little overcooked and tasteless, and the salad that came with it was as tasteless and seemed to have been prepared for a while, so it was not crisp anymore. Service was good but we almost got too much attention, which felt intrusive as we were having a business discussion and had a lot to discuss. Would be nice if the staff was a little more aware of what was going on. I hope the restaurant can address these points as we'd love to go back.
My wife’s dinner was amazing(Petrale sole) my steak was really mediocre. The wine list has amazing depth and breadth, with shockingly high prices.
Lovely spot with good food. The staff is a little stiff, but maybe that’s just Carmel!
Kurt Grasing and his staff helped make my mother's 89th birthday really special!! We loved the meal: the calamari is always delicious, the crabcakes and crab risotto were excellent. The food is consistently tasty and the servers and maitre d' are professional, efficient and notable! Thanks for another memorable meal.
Very nice restaurant with great service and food. They recognized our special evening and that was also nice. My one complaint is that the staff starting vacuuming before we finished our meal and it wasn’t 9pm yet. It was not a pleasing end to the evening
Great food and service!!
Fantastic place. We always visit when staying the weekend. Great food and a fantastic staff!
Second time to Grasings. Excellent both times. We’re initially seated at a crappy table by Exit door...hostess shouldn’t have done that especially considering we had reservations. Upon request, we were immediately moved to much better table. Other than that, evening was very good. Ordered the ahi tuna preceded by the Caesar salad...both were very good. Definitely coming back next time we’re in Carmel.
Did like our server asked for gluten free options and never received them.
Overall, it was a great dining experience.
It was our 55th wedding anniversary. Received nothing for our accomplishment. More of a that's nice now what can I get you to drink. Also, did not have an opportunity to say hi to Ira. Major disappointment.
Amazing food, wine and apps!
Excellent menu, excellent food and very good wine list. Wait staff, both at the bar and in the restaurant was very friendly and helpful
My wife and I go to Carmel frequently and Grasings has always been a favorite. The food is wonderful, and my wife loved the wine list. It may very well be our favorite restaurant
Ordered steak medium which it was but outside was so char/ cooked it was hard. Steak knife pressure was ridiculous to get through!
To be fair been here tons. Love Alex and AAron. Always sit at bar.
But next time please better on my steak.
This was our first time at Grasing's. We choose it because it was ranked high on Trip Advisor and it had abalone on the menu and my husband wanted to try it on this trip to California. We had a wonderful meal. Our server, Talia, was excellent--offered advice on menu items when asked, kept watch on us appropriately, etc. The food that we tried was great--butter lettuce salad, abalone appetizer, herbed halibut special and the lobster mac and cheese. All were excellent. The wine list is extensive but we are not wine experts so that did not make a difference to us. The atmosphere was very nice and elegant--were we were seated was fine and the noise level was minimal. Overall, a great experience!
Come yearly from Manhattan Beach
To unwind and enjoy the veal chop with a lemon drop
They really care that things are just right
Always a favorite stop when we arrive in Carmel.
When family members called and said they had to come to Carmel for a business meeting the next morning, I immediately replied, "GREAT, we'll take you to Grasing's for lunch. Both of our guests are gourmet cooks and agreeable to eat familiar ingredients as well as try new things.
I decided to have a cup of the Potato Leek Soup prior to my crab cakes and let everyone taste it because it was so delicious. Everyone raved about the complex mixture of flavors. My guests ordered three different sandwiches and ended up sharing them as all were well prepared and served at the correct temperatures. Side dishes that come with a sandwich included green salad, quinoa salad, potato salad or fries. Again all were shared because they were prepared perfectly.
Service was excellent as usual - attentive, but not overbearing. Whether it's lunch or dinner, just
yourselves or with family or friends, you will always be happy at Grasing's!
The service was outstanding. The food was mediocre and disappointing. Sorry I took my group of business associates here. Wish we would have picked a restaurant with much better food.
It is exceedingly rare to find a restaurant anywhere that offers the kind of attentive and thoughtful service we received on this visit. Being someone who has various food allergies, I am used to being treated like an inconvenience. Oh how I wish I was just being picky… My food allergies are real and very limiting, so for our server Mike to be so thoughtful, attentive, and to address all of my needs without me even having to ask (because I list all my allergies on my Open table note to the restaurant) he was fully prepared in advance for our arrival, and had alternatives for pretty much every dish they were serving whether it be appetizer, main course, or dessert.
I really cannot stress how rare this sort of attentiveness and compassion is in the service industry; Never once did I feel like I was being treated rudely or thoughtlessly. It was a lovely dining experience and our server really made all the difference. The food was quite good, my only complaint would be that the side servings can be a little on the small side, but other than that, and the really loud noise levels on a full night like Valentine's Day, we have no complaints.
Thank you to Grasing's and to Mike for giving us a lovely Valentine's evening. ❤️
We first tried Grasing for lunch and decided to return for dinner. Extensive wine list. We found one of our favorite wines. The menu is quite varied with beef, pork, seafood and vegetarian options. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. Several diners ate with their hats on — a personal pet peeve in a fine dining restaurant. I would return.
This was my second time at the restaurant, and unfortunately I was disappointed for primarily one reason. Given the price point for most of the dishes, the value just wasn't there.
We started with a grilled artichoke appetizer that was so small it was hardly enough for one person. The crab and onion in the middle were barely visible. The special bone in filet was small for the price and was not very tender. The halibut chosen by my date was ok but not remarkable again given the price.
The evening was somewhat saved by the waiter who did a great job without being overly attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant although busy that evening was another plus.
Given this overall experience I would not return and will not recommend the restaurant to others.
Crowded loud and very uncomfortable experience . Waiter was less than attentive. 15 minutes for drinks never asked if steak was cooked right couldn’t wait to leave.
We had a nice window table and our lunch was very good. Excellent service. The downtown location was perfect .
Food mediocre . Steak over cooked .
Expensive for the value .
Mike was a great wait person ; all staff were friendly and accommodating
It took about an hour to get all of our orders served.
Grasings is a great restaurant that is consistently awesome. The food and service never disappoints. Im always pleased with my dining experience in the dining room or dining at the bar.
Wonderful food, nice space & knowledgeable happy servers make this place a delightful experience every time. Also an extensive and varied wine list (40 pages worth).
It had been several years since we dined at Graslings- we are glad we did . the salads were especially fresh and tasty - not over dressed and ample. Good selection on the menu ,and nice service .
will look forward to going again next summer - and to the bar area which appeared to be lively ,but low key.
Never disappoints! Excellent food and wide variety. Service is knowledgeable and professional, but still warm and welcoming. Superb wine list.
We were early birds but had a great experience. Wonderful swordfish and scallops and freshwater prawns were on the menu and we took full advantage.
Two friends celebrating birthdays and visiting Carmel. Researched ahead of time and decided Grasings would be a perfect fit. Couldn’t have been more right! The ambiance was warm and inviting, the staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive, wine was wonderful, food was exceptional! They treated us to Two desserts for our birthdays. We couldn’t have been happier!
Very thoughtful service, excellent food and surprisingly nice ambiance- cozy- great lighting. Can’t wait to return. Portions in the large size - which in my experience is unusual for such good food and presentation. Could have split each entree.
Went for first time. Celebrating our Anniversary.
The table setting, service , wine list and food were all terrific.
We had the onion rings (small portion) as a starter - maybe better as a side with a steak main course. Steaks were cooked as requested, very good!
Wine assistance was wonderful - Chris was a big help in choosing the wine.
Nice touch was the celebatory dessert they did for us!
Definitely will return soon!
My wife and I came to Carmel for a birthday weekend. Ask the concierge if she knew of a good steakhouse. She recommended Grasing.I had an excellent steak. It will be on my list to eat every time we come to Carmel!
