Grasing's Ratings and Reviews
They were very busy, being a Sunday evening. Our table was outside and the provided heaters just barely kept us from being too cold.
Some of the food was really delicious - could not have asked for better. But on one plate, the vegetables were not hot - probably sitting on a hot table in the kitchen too long.
Worst of all was the service! Our server was a very nice young man. But he did not pay enough attention to his customers, at least in our location. (Another table, as we were leaving, made the same complaints that we had made) At the start of the meal, things were really busy. By the end of the meal, most of the people in our area had left. (We were seated about 8:20 PM.) Yet the service was still slow! As we were waiting for our dinner dishes to be removed and to get the desert menu, I notices our server spending long periods of time simply talking with another table around the corner from ours, just chewing the fat, not discussing the food. I finally had to wave at him to get his attention. Yes, he did than promptly come over and get us started on the next part of the meal. But he repeated this talking with the same table continuously. It was very clear that we were very unhappy, and out server may even been the one who alerted the person who appeared to be the dining room manager, to come to us and profusely apologize for our service, and he gave us our desert and coffee free. But by then, I had simply had it!
I believe that this is the first time in my life (I am 83, so that is quite a while) that I have specifically given a tip of ZERO, and made a point of making it clear on the bill.
We have dined here in the past and have been VERY PLEASED with their service and food. And I hope that management will do something to assure that our experience will not be repeated, so maybe it will again be a very nice place to have a really good meal, served by professional servers.
Our recent dinner at Grasing's was a special occasion. It was for our 50th wedding anniversary. I had alerted Grasing's when I made the reservation. When we arrived they were prepared and wished a happy anniversary and seated us at a table by the window which had been decorated for the occasion. The staff was very friendly and attentive. But the best part was the meal. It was superb. I can't recommend Grasing's highly enough.
Grasings has, in the past couple of years upped their game and consistently stayed top notch. The menu is prepared and executed to perfection. Grasings wait staff is excellent. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and possess great timing skills. The wine list is notable, both by the glass and bottle. Cocktails are skillfully prepared.
I without hesitation recommend Grasings for a dining experience that won't disappoint.
Wish we lived in Carmel! This restaurant never disappoints. The calamari appetizer is lightly fried and has fried leeks also, we usually order it. The crab cakes are all crab, no bread crumbs; you'll get two so enough to share. Two huge, wonderful lamb chops with lots of veggies. The duck was perfect too. The Napa cabbage salad is my personal favorite, I order it every time I come here.
The lemon tart is tart, like the inside of lemon meringue pie. The chocolate espresso
walnut cake has an espresso/walnut light crème filling.
You'll be happy with anything you order.
We had dinner in the bar (good people watching) where you can order off the bar or restaurant menu. It is one of the few restaurants that serve abalone (excellent!). Also, the crab cakes are great! The service was efficient and friendly. We have eaten here a few times and always look forward to another great meal.
Food was fantastic. Perfect after a long day about town. Service was spotty. Pleasant enough at first but visibly annoyed when members of our party requested to split several entrees. It was less about $$$ and more about hunger level but we felt written off from the moment we placed our orders.
We went to Grasing's for my girlfriend's birthday. We had reservations for a Saturday night and were seated right on time. Decorative birthday confetti and a card had been placed at our table prior to our arrival, which was a nice touch. The fresh caprese salad was tasty. My steak was good, but not outstanding for $52. Unfortunately, my girlfriend's sea bass was disappointing (not what she expected), and had to be sent back to be fully cooked; she didn't finish it.
No complaints about the service staff, who were competent and friendly. To their credit, Grasing's offered us two complimentary desserts (chocolate creme blulee and assorted sorbets) which were both good.
All in all, it has a nice atmosphere, but I felt it was somewhat overpriced for the experience. For nearly $200, I was expecting at least "very good".
I talked to the restaurant several hours before we arrived and left a note on open table that we were celebrating a 50th birthday. We had no less than three different people tell us happy anniversary, we had hearts all over our table and did not even get a dessert. We were basically ignored when we tried to say something. Quite a disappointment for a $500 dollar dinner.
The restaurant was good but somehow the reservation got made for the 27th rather than the 20th so when we arrived they had no table for us and they had to seat us outside on the very chilly patio huddled under blankets and heaters. I've noticed a glitch recently with Open Table that I will enter a date for a reservation and it will then roll over to another date. Twice at least I've had to go back and modify a reservation when it shows up wrong. Maybe your IT department needs to check on this?
This used to be one of our favorite local restaurants. Brought a group in from out of town and thought they were going to get the kind of experience I have seen in the past. Service was slow and inconsistent throughout the night - inlacing the 30 minute wait to get a cocktail. All of the meals were over cooked, some were sent back 3 times in an effort to get them right - all were cold. The final killer was when I got the check and they charged extra for blue cheese olives in one of my guests drink - seriously? I just paid and left since I was already embarrassed.
Grasing's is our go to restaurant for special occasions, lunch with friends or just for a great meal.
The servers are knowledgable about the menu items as well as the specials. When asking about wine to compliment a specific dish, the servers will ask your preference in taste and suggest an appropriate match. Not only do they then pour you a taste, they do not merely select the highest price wine when a less costly one will please you.
Often times Kurt Grasing is on hand to greet his diners and make sure everything is to your liking . Grasing's is an excellent and well run restaurant worth visiting frequently.
Had the artichoke stuffed with crab as an appetizer. Crab stuffing was good, but artichoke was EXTEMELY dry and leathery like it was off the vine for a few weeks, even though these are grown locally. Had the $56 rib eye and it was another disappointment -- all at the table said it wasn't as good as the one we cooked from Costco about a week earlier since the cut didn't have much marbling and had a skinny flap. The side carrots were very sweet. On the mixed drink, I couldn't taste or feel any alcohol in the $16 mixed drink we ordered so that was a third and final disappointment. Servers were friendly, ambiance was gorgeous and romantic.
Five friends enjoyed weekend lunch here. We had a reservation, so we were seated near the front of the restaurant, giving us plenty of space of our ow the dishes. n. I saw the beautiful back patio on the way to the (clean) bathroom. I would choose to sit there next time, though they seemed mostly tables for 2-4.
We laughed that half the menu seemed to involve crab in some way - including as an option in a Bloody Mary. Those who chose that were okay with it but since they were very generous with the crab, it was a bit hard to get out of the glass.
Salads were especially good, though we enjoyed all our dishes. We'd gladly return when in the area.
Disappointing! Came here on a recommendation while here for a golf vacation. It took 20 minutes to get a drink after sitting down. The filets that were ordered were apparently good. The special "prime" rib eyes that were or ordered were tough and chewy. One rib eye was even cold when it came out and had to be sent back. The calamari appetizer was 30% calamari and 70% fried leek rings. A very extensive wine list which was the only highlight. Will not be going back.
