Amazing hospitality for our anniversary
Overall Excellent experience. They made our anniversary another very special celebration. From the start to the beautiful table setting to the special dessert! thank you
Everything was perfect! Food and service are excellent. I was celebrating my birthday and they made us feel very special. I fully recommend this restaurant.
The objective was an intimate dining experience in a high quality restaurant. I had heard good things about Grasings, and did not hesitate to make the reservation.
We arrived a couple minutes late, but I had informed the restaurant in advance, and was told there would be no problem. After we arrived, another large party (about 8) and then another party (about 6) came in, and were seated ahead of us.
Then we were seated in what would have been a nice space, except that the four two seat tables were backed against a 10 seat table, obviously for a large party.
Initially the noise was manageable; then the very large party showed up, and all intimacy and quiet disappeared for the rest of the evening. It was loud to the point of disrupting the experience.
Food was average, except for the butter lettuce salad which was spectacular, and the wines which were as expected, excellent. Service was great and personal, but could not offset the noise.
For a $200+ bill, there was little to no value, and I will not return to this restaurant.
Very nice restaurant in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Outstanding birthday celebration!
The food was excellent. The service was wonderful and the ambiance was serene. Will go back!!
Grasing’s is an amazing place! It was a special day for us and Grasing’s treated us great. Chef wrote a card for our speacial occasion, it is a really thoughtful place. In addition to that the food was amazing. Grasing’s is one of my favorite place right now, thank you!
Our bartender, Aaron, was very competent regarding wine. I especially enjoyed talking with Tino, who assisted at the bar. He was attentive to service, but also a quietly charming ambassador for the restaurant. A very nice evening.
Lovely meal with good service. Slightly too noisy and close to other tables, but minor quibbles. Overall a really nice restaurant.
My husband and I came to celebrate our one-year anniversary. The food was good (although not exquisite) and there were some intricate options that all looked really good. The wine list was incredible - an entire book. The only thing holding my review back a little is that we were sat next to a large boisterous crowd in a small room, which took away from the experience.
I am so glad that I discovered Grasing's. The food was excellent. Service was spot on, and the wine list is extensive. The sommelier shared some incredible dessert wines with us. They have a large-format port they serve tableside, and they also serve Tokaji by the spoonful. So, save room for dessert.
Halibut cheeks were bland, grilled artichoke was dry.
Food was fabulous, wine list is unbelievable and endless, service was the best. Truly on our "must do" list. We enjoyed our Saturday dinner so much, we returned Monday evening after our round of golf, sat in the bar and enjoyed the best burger, onion rings and beer in Carmel. We love Grasings and all the staff.
The service was great but not the food. Tartar was not fresh, and they serve it in some odd way. I had a hard time finding couscous in my couscous salad and they serve mussels with bacon. You will never know that it’s going to be with bacon because there is no bacon in the menu. Not happy.
Sat outside for a last minute brunch. It was a fixed menu but it was great.
Grasing's is a very special place for me and my husband. We returned after three years to celebrate our third anniversary, and the staff - chef, server, and hostess - received us warmly and shared in our happiness. It was a perfect evening, and our lovely server met our every need. I always enjoy their non-traditional paella, and it was as delicious as ever. We look forward to many more celebrations at Grasing's in the years to come.
We had a great experience. Excellent wine list.
Very pleased as first time customers. Mark was a great and attentive waiter.
As usual, amazing service and meal. The beet salad was incredible!!
Lovely setting, with smallish dining rooms to keep the sound level down and the experience more intimate. Food was very good, with a good selection for everyone’s taste. Excellent wine list. Very attentive service.
Celebrated a birthday, and they exceeded expectations. Thanks guys.
Overall the food and server were excellent!! Our first time at Grasing's and we had a good friend from the bay area visiting us so we thought we would try a new experience. Cannot say enough about the meal which was superb and well presented. We had two negatives:
1) Our reservation was for 7:00 PM and we received a friendly reminder email at 6:00 one hour prior to the reservation time. Upon arrival, two "greeters" attempted to find our name on the reservation list of the computer at the front door. Could not find us even though I showed a reservation confirmation on my iphone received one hour earlier. OK they finally said we have a table for you.
2) Now our male guest is over six feet tall as I am. We were shown to what appeared to be the only remaining table in the restaurant. The duo tables were pulled away from the wall by the server so my male guest could be seated and due to the cramped quarters my spouse sat with her back to the wall also. The tables were then pushed back in as far as possible. I sat on the corner of one table as the server said people had to pass behind me so please do not block the aisle way(between me and a person at a table behind me). In short, no consideration for our comfort just jam 'em in and take their order! Don't ask others around us to reposition their table and chairs, which there was plenty of room to do. I am not the type to impose on others, rather the server or manager or someone should do this for guests.
All of this won't stop us from going again, but very poor attention to details we felt.
We were both very happy with the quality of the food, the ambiance, and service. We had petite filets which were cooked perfectly and veggies that were perfectly al dente. Service was good although a tad on the slow side but the place was packed so certainly understandable. NOTE: the wine list of bottles and half bottles is several pages long but wine-by -the-glass list seemed very limited. We did end up with an Australian sav blanc that was light and went well with the salads and then medium bodied Malbec with the main course and it was fine.
Fabulous food and excellent service! Lovely atmosphere
We've had great experiences with this place before but that was in the weekend. This time, it was during the week, and we both had the special but it was not very tasty, the salmon was a little overcooked and tasteless, and the salad that came with it was as tasteless and seemed to have been prepared for a while, so it was not crisp anymore. Service was good but we almost got too much attention, which felt intrusive as we were having a business discussion and had a lot to discuss. Would be nice if the staff was a little more aware of what was going on. I hope the restaurant can address these points as we'd love to go back.
This is a charming, upscale restaurant in Carmel - went there for my birthday dinner. Our server was lovely. I ordered the paella and enjoyed it very much. My husband tried abalone and then a fish dish (cod) and did not like either of them. It is a pleasant restaurant but we found others in town that we liked better.
My wife’s dinner was amazing(Petrale sole) my steak was really mediocre. The wine list has amazing depth and breadth, with shockingly high prices.
Lovely spot with good food. The staff is a little stiff, but maybe that’s just Carmel!
Kurt Grasing and his staff helped make my mother's 89th birthday really special!! We loved the meal: the calamari is always delicious, the crabcakes and crab risotto were excellent. The food is consistently tasty and the servers and maitre d' are professional, efficient and notable! Thanks for another memorable meal.
Very nice restaurant with great service and food. They recognized our special evening and that was also nice. My one complaint is that the staff starting vacuuming before we finished our meal and it wasn’t 9pm yet. It was not a pleasing end to the evening
Great food and service!!
Fantastic place. We always visit when staying the weekend. Great food and a fantastic staff!
Second time to Grasings. Excellent both times. We’re initially seated at a crappy table by Exit door...hostess shouldn’t have done that especially considering we had reservations. Upon request, we were immediately moved to much better table. Other than that, evening was very good. Ordered the ahi tuna preceded by the Caesar salad...both were very good. Definitely coming back next time we’re in Carmel.
Did like our server asked for gluten free options and never received them.
Overall, it was a great dining experience.
It was our 55th wedding anniversary. Received nothing for our accomplishment. More of a that's nice now what can I get you to drink. Also, did not have an opportunity to say hi to Ira. Major disappointment.
Amazing food, wine and apps!
Excellent menu, excellent food and very good wine list. Wait staff, both at the bar and in the restaurant was very friendly and helpful
My wife and I go to Carmel frequently and Grasings has always been a favorite. The food is wonderful, and my wife loved the wine list. It may very well be our favorite restaurant
Ordered steak medium which it was but outside was so char/ cooked it was hard. Steak knife pressure was ridiculous to get through!
To be fair been here tons. Love Alex and AAron. Always sit at bar.
But next time please better on my steak.
