Celebrity chef partners, Kurt Grasing and Narsai David, truly created a gem. Fancifully designed in warm hues and modern art work, Grasing’s sets the stage for entertaining that is at once festive and intimate. From friendly and professional service, an award winning wine list and seasonally inspired cocktails to the fresh and sustainable local ingredients are only a few reasons why Grasing’s still receives rave reviews from the press.
Tremendous menu and spectacular wine list to go with great service. We will be back
Planning to go back soon
Good, but expensive.
It was pretty good. A bit on the expensive side but good portion size large.
The restaurant was extremely warm inside. Made dining uncomfortable.
Air-conditioning, ceiling fans and or opening windows would help.
Artichoke crab appetizer wasn’t great
Richard took great care of us. He is an awesome waiter.
Was in town for the US Open and was looking for fine dining for our off day and we found it. The wine list was amazing and a spectacular half bottle selection (we had a mix wine crowd so this came in handy). I had a wonderful bone in filet and my friends had the scallops and halibut, both were amazing. I would highly recommend.
Every aspect of our dinner was great
Wait staff was over the top to make sure we were satisfied with their service.
We came to this lovely restaurant last year for our Anniversary. We liked it so much we returned again this year. We are treated like Royalty! The staff are all wonderful and the food is excellent. I believe we will be doing this tradition every year from now on. Thank you for the beautiful evening.
Terrible. Attitude by the hostess is always a bad sign. We should have just left then. Slow service and filet mignon and duck entree were served stone cold. We sent it back and it was apparent that they stuck it in the microwave. A $40 steak in the microwave. The food came back within minutes of when we sent it back. Btw - after waiting for a long time for it to be deliver. The table next to us with 8 people ordered after us and got served BEFORE us. When we complained the waiter seemed sort like “hmmm” things happen. They tried to make up for it with a complimentary serving of crime brûlée. Really? We didn’t want dessert. We just wanted a hot meal. Also the abalone was overpriced and an absolute joke portion wise. Why bother putting something like that on the menu? Save yourself from this disappointing experience. The only bright spot was the bus boy. He had a nice attitude but hopefully finds a better place to work soon.
Pleasantly Surprised to see hearts confetti on our table and personalized card from the chef for our anniversary celebration. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience and excellent food!
The Grasing’s kitchen is excellent when Kurt Grasing is the chef. Unfortunately when he is not in the kitchen the quality declined substantially and there seems to be no way of knowing when Kurt is working. This makes dining at Grasing’s a hit or miss experience. On this night Kurt was not in the kitchen and the onion tart tasted like onion jam. The seabass was over-peppered and dry. The excess pepper killed the flavor of the sauce in this signature dish. Two weeks before when Kurt was in the kitchen the meal was outstanding.
My wife and I loved our stay in Carmel and dining at Grasings was a highlight of the trip. The food and service were excellent and the ambience was great. The selections of wines was extensive. We will definitely make this a regular stop on our visits here.
Great dinner. Service was impeccable. Food delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Whenever we are in Carmel We have been coming to Grasings since it opened and always enjoyed it. This time it was disappointing. Food was not as good as usual, a d although it was a guiet night the service was slow. Sadly we will not return.
Nice Ambiance but the food is shockingly expensive with a corkage of $30.00 per bottle.
Always one of our favorites and this visit was no exception.
We made the 160 mile one way trek just for our dining experience! As before, WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! BUT, my husband , our 15 year old daughter and I were even more ELEVATED this time, we realized what it is like to finely dine inside a Thomas Kinkade painting!
The world re-known owner/Chef was there in the kitchen (Always amazing to see). The Sommelier (Chris Edmonds) was beyond superb ( and so very friendly/ personable ). Our waiter, Richard also helped make the night one for the 3 of us to remember for the rest of our LIVES!!! Please, do yourself and loved ones a favor... dine there and you will know merry.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Grasing's and had made reservations. We had a drink in the bar prior to sitting down, they had a nice selection of drink specials. At our table was an envelop with our name on it and a handwritten note from the owner congratulating us, nice touch. Our server was delightful and informative, he knew the menu and all of the specials. From the appetizers to the entrees and dessert, the food was fantastic. I had my first bone-in filet mignon, cooked perfectly. My wife had the surf and turf, with a 6oz filet and lobster tail. It too was cooked to perfection. The wine list was incredible, over an inch thick book, with over 18,000 bottle wine cellar. We had a great experience and we never felt rushed. We look forward to referring this spot to our friends and returning.
Good food and drink selection, but rude staff.
The decor is quite unique and fits the restaurant quite well. The service was stellar, with all of the staff truly working as a team. The sommelier was very helpful and did not come across as stuffy or condescending, which is certainly appreciated. There food was very good, served piping hot, and quite flavorful. With so many fine eateries in Carmel, this one certainly pulled its weight. I will be back next time I am in town.
Our first time at Grasings and it won’t be our last!!! Wow!! Everything was superb!
Bring your big fat wallet! Menu items are very pricey and, in my opinion, the food does not match the price. Avoid eating the bar and the bar menu altogether. Bar area is extremely noisy and chaotic and the self-impressed bartender (May 29) poured very lightly -- not a way to impress me right off the bat! The restaurant food for the most part is good-very good but the wait staff is inexperienced, unprofessional, and dumb. I would go back, but mainly because in Carmel one's choices of good restaurants are limited.
Excellent restaurant. Convenient location. Always great food and attentive staff. I started with the beet salad and for the entre I had the rack of lamb. Very tasty and done perfectly at medium rare. My wife had the abalone that also prepared perfectly. Great ambiance. One of our favorites.
Grasings has been 0ne of my favorite Carmel restaurants. However, the last of the two times I cannot say that was true!
At such, I always order the Crab Cakes for lunch as they are mainly crab with no fillers and the spicy ingredients as other restaurants use. However, at our visit before this, my crab cakes arrived cold. When I asked about the temperature, Angel, our server replied, "That's how they put them up for me to serve. I sent them back to be reheated and they were much tastier.
On Tuesday, we invited friends from out of town to join us at Grasings for lunch. I asked Angel, our server again, to please make sure my Crab Cakes were hot as the had not been so on our last visit. Once again, the crab cakes were COLD and this time not even browned as thought they has never been cooked. I did not ask our out of town guests if their food was hot so as not to embarrass them as both had ordered a pasta dish. Perhaps things are different when Kurt is not watching over his kitchen staff.
I'm sorry to say that Grasings is not the restaurant it used to be
Excellent place. Will definitely go again when we visit.
Waiter was extremely professional, we ordered salad and soup each and wanted to share 3 entrees among 4 people. Waiter was very obliging and helpful. The half chicken meal was fantastic.and so was the Ahi Tuna and Paella.
Beautiful out door seating . Wonderful food
Great food, great customer service. Satisfied!!!! Got the crab cakes and fried goat cheese for appetizers.
We had an awesome experience this time. Sometimes it is good to give a place a second chance. We’ve had lunch here a couple of times now and the service and food are excellent! Previous visit had tummy bug not sure how or from where that came... try this place!
Excellent food and service. The beet salad was delicious. I had the special of the night. Black cod with sweet pea ravioli. Fantastic. My friend had the seared scallops. Absolutely wonderful. Service from all staff was exceptional. Very attentive. Our waiter knew the menu and describe the dishes with great detail and experience.
Used to be the best restaurant in Carmel. Food seemed not as good as it used to be. Steak with potato chips was tired. Very busy night so slow service.
Perfect ambiance for quiet birthday dinner for two. Expansive $$ wine list, efficient menu, delicious food. Great service, all in adorable Tudor cottage in Carmel.
I went to Grasings for my birthday and they made it special which was nice. I had the sea bass which is my favorite fish but it was a little dry. Other than that the food and ambiance was wonderful. We would def come back but i would order steak!!
The warm spinach salad at Grasing's is the main reason we keep going back! It is the best we've ever tasted (and we order it everywhere we go!). The steak dinner I ordered was very good. The sea bass dinner my husband ordered also was very good. The best part of the meal, though, was our waiter, who was personable and hospitable and knowledgeable.
Excellent food, service and presentations. We wanted to try a few things with the desire to taste test before booking a future private party. We had their mussels, fresh harvest salad, double thick pork chop wrapped in bacon, with their appetizer size paella. Mussels were in a nice broth great for dipping the slice of garlic bread it came with along with the delicious dinner bread they serve. The salad changes with the season and this had mixed greens with slices of raw beets and lovely strawberries, goat cheese and a mustard vinaigrette dressing. Although the paella and pork chops didn't compliment each other, on its own, each was delicious. The pork chop was moist and flavorful and sat on top of a terrific creamy polenta. The flavors of the balsamic reduction and the bacon and baked apple... wow. Looking forward to having that again. We like the idea of the paella as part of the appetizer selection and is a perfect size for two people to enjoy. Nice and moist with lots of good seafood and meats. For dessert we tried their chocolate chip cookie cake... served with ice cream it was just the right size and ending to an excellent meal. We later got a tour of our room choices for our event and looking forward to their new rooftop with retractable ceiling panels. Lovely tree overhead.
Grasing's is always reliable with delicious food and a lovely atmosphere where you can actually have a conversation. Our waiter was truly outstanding!
