Grappa Italian Bistro & Wine Bar, in the Lakewood neighborhood of Denver, crafts contemporary Italian cuisine with a few delightful continental dishes included in its charming and relaxing eatery. The Grappa mini crab cakes with lemon basil and tomato beurre blanc and the shrimp and lobster salad with French cocktail sauce make superb starters. Some of Grappa Italian Bistro & Wine Bar's specialty entrée dishes include the striped bass en papillotte with lemon pastis beurre blanc, the tagliatelle a la Bolognese egg pasta in a rich meat sauce and the canard a l'orange French duck in an orange and peach Grand Marnier sauce. If you stop by for brunch, you can enjoy such dishes as the Caprese frittata with fresh mozzarella and pesto hollandaise sauce and the seasonal fruit-studded French toast.
When the weather allows, be sure to grab a seat on the stunning outdoor patio.
I live and work in Golden and this is the best restaurant by far. You can go for a special occasion or just drop in for a delicious lunch. Try the lobster ravioli - craveable! And who doesn't love warm bread with olive oil and balsamic...
Somewhat over-priced, suspect that the outdoor eating area overlooking Clear Creek could be very nice in warmer weather or during the day.
We had a nice time at Grappa but the food was not good. The salad was excellent but that is where it ended. I ordered the filet/mashed potatoes and my wife ordered a pasta dish. Her dish had too much garlic and overwhelmed the pasta. My filet did not look like a filet and did not taste like one either. It was fatty and did not melt in your mouth like most filets I have eaten. In fact I did not even finish it. The mashed potatoes were bland at best and were less appetizing than some instant potatoes I have eaten. I liked the atmosphere but most likely will not return or recommend due to the food quality.
I have a fondness for Grappa Bistro. A most pleasant place to sit on the outdoor deck, have a lovely glass of wine and visit with family or friends over a delicious lunch.
......For a romantic evening without the kids. I think it is just the way the space is designed that lends to a bit of a loud environment. Don't get me wrong - it is not like being in a night club or a sports bar. Maybe it was just that my wife and I were both tired and wanted some quiet on this particular night.
The food was very good as was the service. We will go back.
This place had great food and a nice patio (although it was a bit cool to be seated outside). But the waiter was soooo obnoxious. When we asked him for recommendations, he didn't suggest things....he told us he would bring out something....without telling us what it was. When we politely asked him for a dessert menu, he told us that we should order the chocolate dessert. He wouldn't even tell us what other choices there were until we insisted. It was really annoying and put a bad spin on the whole meal.
If I can guarantee that I wouldn't get that smarmy waiter again, I would go back.
A special dinner for three on a Friday night and they were out of an entrée: eggplant parmesan. They were out last time I ate there too. Couldn't believe it happened twice. It was my friend's birthday and I had told her that Grappa had great eggplant parm. Our waiter rushed us constantly and committed the biggest mistake ever: asked for our desert order while my friend was still eating her entrée. Overall, it was a bad experience and we won't be back.
Sat on the balcony overlooking rushing waters of Clear Creek! View was of the changing colors of trees and listening to
the creek. Service was Amazing! So attentive and made us feel like we were the only ones there...even though
we were not. Food was average but we really enjoyed the ambiance and service so it didn't matter. Pick a beautiful day!
We chose Grappa on a whim, and it was a great choice. The food selection was broad, and it was tough for all of us to pick one dinner with so many great options.
I have only been to Grappa for lunch on Fridays and always have the seafood ravioli. This Friday Special is very light homemade pasta enclosing lobster and other seafood in a light cream sauce. Not a particularly large serving but perfect size for me for lunch and it's delicious. Grappa has a nice healthy menu and also more substantial offerings; my friend said the fries with her panini were wonderful. I prefer to eat on the outside patio when the weather is nice. It's right on the creek (growing trees and bushes beginning to block view) which is a big draw for me. The service is excellent and the staff always seems to appreciate diners choosing their restaurant. I have recommended this restaurant.
The food was great, and our waiter was very good at recommending wine for us. Sitting in the bar and listening to Ricardo play piano was a real treat!
I wanted to take my son to this restaurant while he was here visiting from college. The food was okay and our waiter seemed a little out of it. The other staff members made up for it. I just wasn't impressed with the food. It was bland and seemed more like something you'd get from a frozen dinner as opposed to fresh dining. Their patio was nice though. We sat outside by the creek.
Service was slow, took a while to get drinks. Food was just okay, nothing exciting.
The food is always very good and the staff very accommodating. I also really love that they have parking underneath the building. Makes it very easy when Golden is busy.
It was a rainy afternoon and perfect for a cozy lunch inside. The server was excellent, attentive and friendly. Food as always was excellent.
Grappas has an excellent location by the creek. The salad, wine and bread were good but that was about it. The service was terrible and the waitstaff was overworked - they definitely need more people. The food is Meh and overpriced for what it is. The manager is very rude and we will never go back. There are too many other wonderful restaurants in Golden. Table Mountain Inn and the Golden Hotel have consistently excellent food, great service and wonderful ambiance.
My $10 spinach salad was inedible. Lot's of black edged, mushy leaves of spinach. I pointed it out and they did take it off my bill but if you're going to charge $10 for a salad it should be picked through.
My husbands chicken parm was over broiled and tough. And we waited almost an hour for our entrees. Even though we told our waitress we were trying to make a show. That being said, my bass in parchment was amazing!! Unfortunately, I had to consume it in 5 minutes so I couldn't really enjoy the lovely preparation and sauce. The outdoor patio is lovely but we won't be back.
Traveling on business from out of town. Made a reservation, but wasn't really needed. Enjoyed it and will probably visit again when traveling to the area.
This wasn't our first time visiting Grappa so our initial impression was things had gone downhill. My fork was crusted with food and the table had goop imbedded in the open weave top. Our waitress cleaned the table top but the water dripped onto my lap ... good thing I had my napkin on my lap! My husband ordered the osso bucco but was told they had a late delivery of the lamb so it was not available ... strike three. Having said this, the food was great as we had expected.
I have been to Grappa many times. This is the worst service that I have ever gotten there. Most often service is attentive and gracious. It felt as if there were not enought servers and the ones that were there seemed a bit confused about the process.
Since I have usually been pleased and the food is outstanding I will give it one more try, but just one. Also if it is a windy night the umbrellas take flight, so better indoors on those nights.
I was going to lunch with a coworker, both to check out a restaurant and to get to know each other.
We were disappointed that we were not offered anything to drink, simply given ice water. I'd planned on a glass of wine or two, but that didn't happen. We also felt like the server was trying to rush us. The place was not that busy, they clearly didn't need our table for anyone else.
I also felt the Croque Madame sandwich has bread that is too thick.
Did not check on us often enough. Waited too long for drinks. Asked for bread three times and never got more. Food taste was ok but not hot enough.
Delicious! Attentive! Nice Location. Tasty wine. We will return.
Gorgeous setting, fantastic food, friendly staff. We sat in a table that bordered the river under a shady tree. We had the special which was cooked to perfection. Many choices for gluten free and lots of seafood choices which is unusual for Colorado.
We cycled out to Golden for Denver and had a wonderful lunch..will return again soon.
It is surprising to find a restaurant of this quality in a small town like Golden. Interesting, varied continental menu. Something for everyone.
The service is very good and the food is the always elegantly prepared and the taste is perfect. The outdoor patio is next to Clear Creek and is a beautiful setting.
The setting on the veranda overlooking the water was the high point of the dining experience. This was our first time at Grappa and we will give it another try.
Great food, good service. Nice owner.
We went on a Saturday evening, the patio and view of Clear creek were amazing, the food was very good and the service was average.
Two of my friends and I have been going to dinner at fine restaurants once a month since June 2006. This was the first time we have eaten at Grappa. I had the canard a l'orange which was wonderful. I ate every bite. The raspberry crème brulee was also amazing. One of my friends said it was the best pasta primavera she had ever had. The other said the same about her dinner. We will definitely eat there again.
Loved the restaurant. Would recommend it to everyone! Great Padio view of the creek, beautiful indoor wine bar and ambiance. They even have their own complimentary parking garage! One thing they need to work on, however, is distinguishing their restaurant from the run-down looking Grappa Deli that's right next door. It kind of freaked me out at first, but then I realized that I had to walk north just another 15 feet to the Grappa Bistro. Management should seriously consider renaming the deli to distinguish it from the nicer restaurant. I can't think of any other time that I've seen an odd pairing like that. Odd. Anyway, I highly suggest the restaurant proper to anyone. Ideal for a classy night out or nice date! Cheers!
We've been to Grappa several times in the past two years but overall experience has declined and we will not return. We celebrated a special occasion on a Wednesday night, and although the restaurant was mostly empty, our party of four was seated directly adjacent to the food service prep area where wait staff noisily prepared bread and olive oil plates; rather annoying. Plates were oven hot, but the food on them was not. The Caesar salad had no flavor (no garlic, no lemon, no parmesean cheese). Carpaccio appetizer was very good. The wild mushroom risotto with duck confit was too salty and was not finished. Filet mignon was very good, chicken parmesean was average, and duck a la orange was average. We did not order dessert.
Sorry to say, but we were not impressed. All 3 of us said same thing - bland, not much flavor, boring & disappointed. Iceberg lettuce in a nicoise salad...really? Mediterranean food should be rich with flavor. Wondering if the people who work there have tasted any of the food they serve? Service was good, but there were only 3 tables so hard to fail that one. Won't go back.
Good food. Nice patio. We enjoyed ourselves but restaurant was cleared by 9pm.
After being seated (the man who seated us was very nice) we were not acknowledged for about 15~20min when the man who seated us noticed we had not been taken care of yet. He went over to a server in our section and we overheard the server tell him that he would not help us, and to get someone else. After another 5min another waiter took our drink and appetizer order and awhile later a different waitress dropped the food at our table, but no plates, so I walked over to a station to get them. I ordered the salmon, which was supposed to be rare but instead it was cooked med-well and had very little taste. The demeanor of the wait staff that should have served us was generally unpleasant and couldn't wait to leave.
Service and food were mediocre at best, dry rolls, seafood overcooked, service was terrible and the price was well over what they offered.
This is our favorite spot to eat before the theatre. They are very efficient and always have good food. The menu is great, as there are so many good choices. I always enjoy the fish in parchment paper.
My wife was very excited to go here for her birthday. The waitress was from BC and seemed very snooty. The restaurant was very noisy and there was obviously other places that weren't in the middle of the crowd, but it was obvious that these tables were for friends or more regular visitors. My wife enjoyed her meal, I felt it was over priced for the portions and the ambiance. In short my wife enjoyed the experience. I was very disappointed, I expected much better service at the least.
The steak special on 4/13/13 was very good, but we didn't receive the mashed potatoes. We only received the rack. At 35 a plate, I felt this was much too expensive. I didn't realize the price until I got the bill.
Our waitress was surly until we made our order. She perked right up after we ordered the most expensive entre on the menu. Very transparent. Her assistant, a young gentleman, was very polite and helpful.
The piano playing was much appreciated and provided great ambiance although it was a little loud. We had a hard time holding a conversation over the sound level.
We would come again but would explicitly ask what comes with each entre and request a table on the opposite side of the room so a conversation is possible.
