Grappa Bistro - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We love sitting on the outside patio. We were there just as the sun set, which was great. But it was very very dark after that. It would be helpful to have more appropriate lighting on the patio and even candles on each table so you can at least see what you are eating.
Other than that, we all enjoyed our food.
When we looked at the menu online, it listed several tapas-type items. Unfortunately, these were not on the actual menu. We sat and waited at our table for a server to approach while other customers who arrived after us already had begun to receive their food. When we finally got a server, she was great! Very personable and efficient. We enjoyed the food very much, and the outside patio was comfortable.
We had high expectations but ended up very disappointed. The food did not come close to their descriptions or their cost. The noise of the staff ruined the atmosphere. We were the only diners but the level of talking ruined any possibility of an intimate meal.
We and another couple enjoyed dinner here before a concert Sunday evening. Our service was excellent. Even though a mistake was made, it was immediately corrected with a new entree to replace it. We had a very nice dining experience and were on our way to the show on time. I would say Grappa is nice and a good place for dinner, albeit a bit pricey.
The bouillabaisse was just OK -- plenty of fish but no saffron, and a little sweet (tomato bisque?). The Caesar salad was not actually a Caesar but a romaine salad with croutons. Also just OK. My wife had the steak and enjoyed it very much. The red wine was a bit warm but an excellent choice for a house wine. In other words Grappa could be excellent if they just tried to up their food quality a little bit.
Everything is excellent. We have been to this location over 25 times and it is consistently good. The piano music sets an exceptional atmosphere when it is played. The wine menu needs to provide less expensive alternatives. The lowest priced Pinot Noir or Chianti was $39.
Spur of the moment decision, but very pleased!
There were 8 of us that went for dinner. The menu offered a variety of dishes. The wine selections were lovely. Our server was quiet, but quite efficient.
My steak came out a bit too rare (I usually order it medium-rare). The chef brought it back out & apologized to me & asked if I needed anything else. Very kind - did not act like I offended him at all.
Desserts were all phenomenal!
Would go back & recommend!
Chose Grappa's for a special double birthday celebration. I was wary given the negative reviews, but took a chance and found them to be unwarranted. Found the menu and food we selected to be very good. Wine list was very good as well. Philip our server was very attentive and courses were served in timely fashion. Also enjoyed the small jazz ensemble that played (on a Saturday evening). Would recommend giving Grappa's a try.
The service was poor. Wait staff was not attentive to the table. We had to ask a couple of other wait staff to get our waiter. Food was decent- I had bouillabaisse and it was a bit bitter. I ordered and paid for lobster in it but did not get it. It would have been the next day before the right order was delivered so I just ignored the omission.
The sangria was delicious and refreshing. Our first time there and we will not go back or recommend to others.
We dined here with some friends and were very disappointed. Very nice location next to Clear Creek, but the fool was very overpriced. My wife ordered the eggplant and received four very small chunks that were so tough you could hardly cut the with a knife. Can you imagine tough eggplant? I ordered the penne pasta in vodka sauce with salmon. Th amount of salmon was what you might get as an appetizer not an entree. The sauce was not anything like any vodka sauce I have ever had, not very good. I read reviews that were two years old an were very complimentary. Obviously someone has screwed up a good thing. We won't be back.
I have been to Grappa at the Belmar location about a dozen times and have always been very pleased with every element of my dining experience. I cannot say the same for the Golden location based on the service alone. We Waited 30 min for a server who ultimately treated us very rudely, as if we were an inconvenience to him for wanted to dine at Grappa. We decided to leave and go to the Belmar location, where we had a lovely experience. Food was amazing as always and the service was timely and friendly.
I've been to this location before because of it's great ambience. We had a reservation for brunch at 10. When we arrived the place was dark and totally unorganized. They were out of many of the items on the menu. They said they had a rush the day before. Well isn't that part of restaurant management to plan ahead. Golden was hosting an art festival that weekend. Once we did get the food the potatoes were cold an we had to keep asking for refills of coffee or water. Undecided if I want to go back again.
Wine by the bottle options are really good. Bloody Mary I had was excellent. The food delivery timing was not great. The last time I dined here, I had the same experience. I feel like the restaurant counts on its location to make up for mediocre service. I also suspect that, when restaurants have the same staff issues over time, it means management isn't great. The servers were definitely cheerful and knowledgeable enough, though. The food was good and portion sizes were just right. Good value for the cost.
The service was chaotic and unreliable--tried to serve us someone else's food twice, misunderstood our order (gave us two salads instead of splitting), and forgot the salad for another guest until well into the entree. The food was average despite a better piror experience there. We had the Veal Piccatta. Presentation was the best part as the meal itself was quite average (flavor and quality). Though I would recommend to friends, it would be with caution. Might go back to see if things improved (willing to give another try), but if no improvement, it will be my last visit.
The food was not great but it was okay. The service was horrible that evening. Our server was not attentive at all. We had to wave her over to get another drink and when my husband ordered his beer the server took his order and ran off not asking anyone else if they needed anything which we did so our friend had to wait and order a glass of wine when his beer arrived. It wasn't even that busy. Also, our water was never refilled. I'm not sure what was going on but they definitely were not on their game that evening. It was very disappointing especially since we've been there before and really had a great experience.
We have been here for lunch, and it was okay, so we thought dinner would be nice. We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night and we could hear crickets, it was so dead in there. We stayed until 7:30ish, and there was only one other couple. We ended up spending way too much money for what we ordered. I think lunch out on the patio next to the creek would at least compensate for the overpriced food, but next time, we'll opt for a pIcnic.
After the three of us were seated, it took 10 minutes for us to get water - which we prompted by asking. There were no apologies. The waiter was lack luster in taking our orders and later on we noticed (when overhearing him at another table) that he forgot to mention their specials to us. The food was good but not special. I was bummed because Grappa came as a recommendation by a friend who used to live in Golden.
Grappa was recommended to us by a friend and so we were quite excited to get a reservation but pretty disappointed by our experience. Firstly the food was actually pretty good and the wine list was extensive if more than a bit over priced in my opinion. We had the veal and the bouillabaisse and the carpaccio and they were very tasty, well presented and a reasonable portion - Good News! However the noise level was down right uncomfortable (there was lady playing the piano and singing and everyone had to raise their voices to be heard) and the service was truly awful - late with everything, confused and inattentive and with more excuses than one could believe possible. Very disappointing and I really don't see us going back given the competition in and around Golden. Same really, as with fewer covers (lower the noise level), no piano (!) and some decent staff this could, potentially, be quite pleasant. Oh well.
We went with friends for DRW. Very small space from what it used to be, and very, very loud, with a piano player/soloist adding to the noise level. We had to talk over her, along with everyone else, so it was even louder. Our waiter was nice, but acted like he knew his wine, but we caught him in several mistakes. Some we alerted him to, others we just wrote off. He mispronounced the variety of the grape, misled us on the derivation of the wine, saying it was from a Gr. Jct. winery where wine had been made for over 50 yrs. The back label of the bottle said it was from a Spanish winery imported by someone is Arvada. He also took credit for comprising the house wine list just recently, which I doubted. He brought us bread, but nothing to put on it. We had to ask twice and finally got butter and olive oil, little too much a bit too late. The food was ok, small potions, as expected. Will most likely not return to Grappa.
We left and had dinner somewhere else.
Arrived on time for resevation and told to wait. Waited over 20 minutes. Appeared that a few people arriving after us got seatted. Observed several empty tables the whole time.
Host used the no eye contact avoidance approach. My guess is that they were short handed (maybe by not their fault) but they could have explained situation better and provided other options. Maybe told us how long expected wait. After 20 minutes and not contact, we thought it best to leave.
Waited ten minutes just to be addressed on arrival. Waited even longer to be actually waited on. We're not aware the menu would be limited on this night. Very limited choices. Waiter was very indifferent, almost annoyed when we tried to get service from him. We ordered one bottle of wine per couple (on the low end). Bill came to over $220 a couple which included a 20% "service charge. " Food was ok but not above marginal. We typically tip 20%, but don't insult me by not letting me tip what I think the service is worth. This experience would have been worth about half the price. We will have to think twice if we will give this restaurant a second chance to try there normal menu which looked intriguing.
The food was delicious and the service was great! I had the soup de jour, a potato soup, and would have ordered 10 more bowls...if I hadn't already ordered the buffalo steak which was just as delicious. My boyfriend ordered the ceaser salad and Oso Bucco, both yummy as well.
Our server was wonderful, came by to check on us just enough (we don't like over bearing servers), was extremely knowledgeable, and made some great food and beverage recommendations. I wish I could remember his name as he is 50% of the reason we will return.
I highly recommend Grappa, I have already suggested it to family members and friends!
We left very full and very satified! Thank you Grappa and your wonderful staff!
We had a great dinner, the food and service could not have been better. It was the fixed price that we weren't happy about. I didn't see anyplace on the reservations w/Opentable mentioning it was a fixed price dinner and what that price was, and it could have influenced our choice. It was a special night, and I don't know if a regular meal may cost that much at this resturant. I'll check it out and let you all know. It was a good dining experience.
