Grant Grill Ratings and Reviews
We really enjoy dining at the Grant Grill. The service is perfect, just the right amount of attention without being overbearing. The food is well prepared. The menu is creative with wonderful combinations of flavors. Please try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Overall a great experience. I had the cauliflower quiche. It was a small slice but came with side salad and delicious fried potatoes. Unfortunately, the quiche was filled with potatoes too. I think it should have Ben a frittata instead. Don’t need heavy crust plus potatoes in it it plus potatoes on the side. My husband had the duck confit on brioche. Delicious. Rock star entree. Service was impeccable
What a relief to rediscover a classic restaurant in downtown San Diego. Yes, prices are a little higher, but when you consider the cost of many downtown restaurants The Grant Grill at the US Grant is a real bargain. Great for all meals and afternoon tea. We’ll revisit.
Amazingly amazing!!!!! So imagine dinner at the usual hotel restaurant. Not such a great day dream, right? Now imagine one of the best restaurants you have ever been to and you have traveled the world and are a foodie. The experience here was beyond 5 star++++++!!!!! All of the restaurants that I have recommended before just got left behind. One of the 10 top restaurant experiences to enjoy before you die. Enough said.
Return visit to the Grant Grill dinning room. Best experience of the evening was the Modern Negroni Experience and Enjoyment. Good service in a quite dinning room. Cuisine good but.... needs some love ❤️ and attention. Lacked execution and flavors. Please adjust the ratatouille oyster mushroom dish!
Have had dinner here and the food was amazing. Their home baked bread is worth the calories - eat as much as you can. Gracious service. Nicely decorated and a fun history. Read the plaque outside the restaurant to see how women forced their way in when the lunch hour was for men only.
This is one of the most fussy, yuppie, overpriced restaurants I've ever eaten at. The ambience is lovely and the tables are private and quiet. I'm sure the glitterati and political elite of San Diego eat here on expense accounts regularly, but if you are looking for just some great food at a good value, this is not your place. My husband and I were staying at the US Grant and wanted a close place to meet our daughter who lives in the city. Our bill for 3 came to $175 with tax and tip. Probably typical in downtown S.D., the wine was $18 a glass. My husband ordered their table-side-mixed Negroni, at $18, which was an overly fussy drink, overpowered by the fresh rosemary in it. They raved that it won a big award for mixed drinks. My husband couldn't finish it.
Our meals were tasty, but portions are very small and placed on big plates to look like an art show with drizzles of sauces, etc. My husband and I split a sea bass entree and the portions were smaller than appetizers. They charge $4 for the warm bread, which was delicious, but I don't remember the waitress asking us if we wanted bread for $4. The carrot cake also looked over the top but, frankly, not as good as my own. The best part of the meal was the mock turtle soup which was essentially beef stew. I wish I had just ordered that for $12 for a small bowl, the bread and nothing else. The waitress and service was excellent but this is a restaurant for a certain group of people, of which I am not one.
We were delighted to discover that our “take home” left overs were carefully placed in the containers and closely assembled to resemble our original restaurant plate presentation.
This extra effort resulted in our second opportunity to enjoy our food and “eat with our eyes”.
Was really disappointed with our meals at Grant Grill. Flavors were bland and uninspired. 4 of us for dinner-lamb was not tender, sea bass-fishy, vegetarian dish didn’t have much flavor, scallops were the best of the 4 dishes but still not a lot of flavor. Way overpriced for the lack of quality entrees.
So happy with this restaurant. Went for brunch. Beautiful restaurant in the US grant hotel. Amazing, attentive and polite staff. Our food was absolutely delicious and unique. Drinks were pretty good too. I will definitely be returning if ever I am in San Diego again
It costs, but it was worth every single dollar we spent there. the ambiance was wonderful. It was our son's 33rd birthday dinner and it could not have been more perfect. Our hostess and the chef made the evening delightful. the food was superb, the atmosphere was lovely and later the jazz artists begin around 8pm. We were leaving just as the crowd began coming in. I loved that it was an ADULT atmosphere.
Our experience at the Grant Grill has been excellent in every way every time we've eaten there. Service was superb; attentive without being intrusive. We were indulged with champagne and desert gratis because it was our anniversary. Prices are on the higher side, but value merited the prices. We will continue to select Grant Grill for special occasions.
Wow! The food here was outstanding!! The carpaccio was the absolute best I've ever had. The Opah dish was extraordinary!! As said before in the comments, Natalie is terrific. Katelyn was a good server, but towards the end of the meal, the service was lacking. Waited too long for dessert order and check. Would have been nice to have busser scrape crumbs - Oh my goodness the bread!!
Service, terrific start to finish. Cocktails top notch. Steak salad overdone and boring, pork dry and bland though tender and not fatty, chicken delicious. Ambience very nice. Chef could work on the menu. Carrot Cake delightful! We DID. enjoy a pleasant birthday lunch though for my mother. Thank you
My wife and I were staying at The US Grant hotel for the weekend and we hit this restaurant for dinner, breakfast, brunch and a mid-afternoon snack and I can say, without a doubt, it was one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to. Each meal, after we each took a bite of the other meal, we wanted to swap plates. Of all the meals, my wife's lamb was probably the best of the best. Being Italian, lamb was a meal that was served often in my house, but the lamb at Grant Grill was BY FAR the best that I have ever had. Run, don't walk to this restaurant.
I took my Mom there for her 70th birthday. She was so excited because they brought us out a complimentary champagne toast, her menu said "Happy 70th Birthday", and they also brought a beautiful dessert. They made her feel like a VIP! The bread was amazing and our dinner was just as great. We also spent some time in the bar after dinner and had a glass of wine while we listened to live music. It was a wonderful experience!
An incredible experience. Beatrice was delightful. Anniversary dinner and they treated us with special details. Bison was amazing and the bread was the best we have ever had. We eat out weekly at top restaurants all over the world. We haven't been to San Diego in years and we will definitely come back to this restaurant when we return. Highly recommend.
Another fantastic meal at the Grant. The new alcohol-free Seedling Sling cocktails are fun, tasty - and guilt-free. I got the Petite Greens salad even though I was in the dining room - it is an exceptionally flavorful, even if simple, salad, and I am craving it. And the new Scottish salmon dish with salmon roe is SO tasty - very subtle flavors like lemon verbena - a sophisticated, first-class dish. They also treat well-behaved children extremely well (though the Shirley Temple they make uses grenadine that was too "upscale" for my child's taste - he preferred a Seedling Sling!). Always enjoyable to spend special occasions here being served by Natalie!
One of the finest dining experiences we have had in the last ten years. I want particularly to thank our server, Sergio, who was the consummate professional. At the beginning of the meal for our party of six he said, "The table is yours for the evening so take your time and enjoy yourselves." He was always attentive, never imposing, and provided simply outstanding service. One example: when is the last time that all entrees are served simultaneously to a large party? It happened for us at the Grant Grill.
Now to the food: creatively presented, delicate in its flavor choices, and paired perfectly with the wine we had chosen, we loved the Scottish salmon, the ribeye steak, the sea bass, and the freshly-baked bread.
The atmosphere is classy without being pompous, welcoming without being cloying.
We look forward to another visit when we return to San Diego another time.
Delicious food and great presentation of it as well. All staff very attentive and helpful information given on the menu to assist you while making your choice. We were celebrating our anniversary it was great. Price was what we expected we knew it was on the higher end.
Only one server on duty at dinner time and I would have thought we were invisible as I watched her tend to five groups that arrived well after ours, yet she didn't even acknowledge us. The water boy (that's what I'll call him since i didn't see him do anything else) just stood in his spot for 10 minutes right next to us before he decided to serve us water. Finally another waitress came off break and tended to us. It had been at least 20 minutes! The food is good but I can find good food and good service for a better price elsewhere!
Great spot for a quiet lunch with my son. Server (Jose) was excellent. Service was quick but not rushed. Atmosphere on a Wednesday was low key and quiet even though about 10 tables were occupied. Great for conversations. Has a sophisticated, but not pretentious vibe.
My Cobb Salad was excellent.
