Lovely lunch with quick service and tasty good.
Not fine dinning at all!! Looks beautiful inside but people were in flip flops and jeans! We definitely didn’t need a reservation. There was only 6 customers in the entire restaurant! The menu barely had anything on it. Obviously this is due to Covid. It was very upsetting.
I love the grant grill! The food is pecacular and the people make me feel special!!
Waiter, bus, bar all superbly attentive. Food was meant to differentiate, and they did it deliciously. Felt they listened to every word, down to recognizing that although I was too full for dessert... the berries in one sounded refreshing, and without asking or charge he brought me just that. Worth mentioning the entrance can be hard to find from the outside of the hotel, but keep walking around and you will find your way in. Worth every step to find!!
My wife and I have eaten here before and came back because of previous excellent meals. We were not disappointed this time either. The Grant Grill is a bit of a throwback to earlier sophisticated dining; quiet, well spaced tables where one can carry on a conversation without shouting; soft lighting but light enough to read the menu; comfortable booths and formal table settings. But it is not stuffy. The menu changes often, this evening’s menu featured several seafood items. The amuse bouchée was a clever sweet potato crisp with a dollop of curried sea food on top, crunchy, spicy, and fresh; a nice blend of textures and tastes. We both had lobster bisque for dinner, the soup of the day and I had sea bass while my wife had scallops. Both were excellent. The sea bass was beautifully crisp on the skin side but moist and succulent inside. Served with baby turnips and strips of chard stems brined and then gingered. A truly creative combination. My wife’s scallops were equally sweet and fresh and nicely charred. The wine list is fairly comprehensive and features some smaller wineries. I found one of my favorites, Turnbull Cellars Sauvignon Blanc, and it paired nicely with the sea bass. For dessert we shared the Tahitian squash panna cotta. The service was attentive but not obtrusive in a very relaxed manner. The entire experience was excellent from arrival to departure and we will be coming back soon.
Really amazing meal and personalized service I have yet to experience anywhere in San Diego! Brandon was our waiter and the guy was super. It was a father daughter date before the ballet and it could not have been more perfect experience.
Best pre or after theater choice if you have tickets for Copley Symphony Hall.
Greeted cheerfully at valet parking and directed to the Grant Grill with its welcoming ambience. Our lunches were delicious and the Black & Blue Buckle dessert was fabulous. We enjoyed the attentive service in a sophisticated and quiet atmosphere allowing for good conversation. We will definitely return.
Lovely presentation of courses. Attentive waiter. Enjoyable all around
My husband and I went here for a late valentines dinner before a show at the civic center.
The menu is highly lacking. And the service was terrible. I would not recommend.
Expensive, but worth it. There is live music on the weekends.
Elegant way to celebrate Valentines Day
5he whole experience was confused. Table not ready, despite reservation. No cutlery available. Confused servers trying to and failing to deliver correct menu choices to customers. Final course delivered without utensils and despite assurances no follow up in time to eat without ice cream melting.
It is a good bar and lounge experience.
The cocktails and live music were very good. This is not a place for dinner. My NY Strip was not edible. Gristle and fat and only one true bite of steak. Everything else was like, hmmm.
Amazing food, wonderful service, incredible ambiance, and worth every penny spent. 10/10 will be eating here again.
Only reason I don't give it a 5 stars if because the waiter ""assume"" I don't read the wine list.
Everything about our experience was fabulous. We had a lovely table. The venison and the salmon were exquisite. Beatrice was a treasure.
Just when I thought the Grant Grill couldn't further exceed expectations, it did. Chef de Cuisine, John Duran, has not only improved on traditional menu items, but he has introduced a new level of exciting, innovative dishes that are magnificently presented and perfectly prepared. Of particular note, his Spanish Octopus with sauce romesco, salsa verde, and chorizo brown butter is sensational. The Chef shared his secret of marinating the octopus in soda water prior to cooking! And the New Zealand Venison with Abuelita chocolate caramelle, pickled persimmon, and chestnut pistou is one of the best venison preparations I've ever been served. The surprise is the chocolate which encased in small pasta purses that add a pop of flavor that compliments the venison beautifully. Kudos also to the new beverage supervisor Rex Yuasa that has created exotic craft cocktails that are unique and delicious! Also, a call out to all of the management and staff including Beatrice, Alex and the rest of the team who provide flawless service!!! Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent food, but to call the service glacial would be kind. Glaciers move at lightning speed by comparison. We had to chase down our server to order our entree and again to get the check. It was a Sunday evening and the place was nearly empty so it wasn't as though they were hard pressed to take care of other guests.
Well thought out menu, perfectly executed. Very attentive staff. Everyone seemed to know it was our anniversary, and went out of their way to make of feel special.
Great place for pre or post Theater brunch, lunch or supper. Friendly attentive staff. Menu is enjoyable and sophisticated.
The hostess was very helpful, after reserving the first service of the evening, I got a call wondering if we wished to move our reservation to an earlier time. I left a note with the reservation that we were attending the theater, so this call was spot on. The steelhead, scallops and sea bass were excellent. The waiter was attentive and friendly. We finished early enough so we could walk leisurely across the street to the Lyceum for the play.
Good food, good ambience. Kitchen and service are very accommodating before concert when it comes to the timing.
The food was excellent. We had theatre tickets and they stayed in schedule.
This was my first time to eat at the Grant Grill. We had reservations to see a show at the Civic Theater and was looking for a good meal close to the theater. The Grant Grill was outstanding! The elegant ambiance of the restaurant accompanied the excellent food and service we received. The entrees were a little pricey but the presentation and extras ( complimentary focaccia bread and appetizer) made up for the cost. Our waiter recommended wines for our meal and the food arrived in a timely matter. The sauce on the Hawaiian Catch of the Day was memorable. For a fine dining meal, I would go to the Grant Grill again.
You go here for the "experience"!. The taste and presentation of the food are unmatched. But portion sizes are unbelievably small. Looking for something else to eat after spending almost $75 on dinner is not great value for money!
Just an amazing pre-theatre dining experience. If there’s a higher rating than 10, the Grant Grill should get it. Thank you!!
It was the second time that I brought my 14 yr old niece for a pre theatre dinner. She enjoys food and appreciates the elegant atmosphere. Our waitress was wonderful, as was the rest of the staff. Our food was excellent! It was a lovely and delicious experience. A special treat.
Best anniversary venue ever ! Ambiance, service, and meal were excellent. Very special place and the highest quality food prepared by outstanding chef. Wait staff are knowledgeable and go the extra mile to make our experience memorable. Will definitely revisit for another special occasion.
We were seated at a booth meant for 6 to 8 people. We were two. The booth was at the back door directly across from the kitchen door. Definitely not what I expected from Grants Grill on Christmas Day.
The service was excellent. Most of the courses were quite good. The entire, however, was duck breast and confit which normally means a confit leg. We did not get that. There was a very small amount of confit in the salad.
Arrived early for our reservation. Politely offered 2 Mimosas while waiting . . . 'Mimosas' had no champagne in them. Why call them mimosas then? Once at table, service very POOR! Really. I don't complain much. There was no cream for coffee at table. It took 10 mins to receive cream. The buffet was quite minimal. Pastries were honestly of Sara Lee quality. The roasted potatoes were desiccated. The few that moisture in them tasted good, but at least 70% of what was available was comparable to potato 'chips'. The eggs may have been better at Denny's, honestly. The bacon was good. The coffee was good. The fruit was good.
After we were done and our plates were whisked away, we waited for 15mins for someone to realize we needed our check, however I had to go to the Hostess podium to ask for our check. There was no one at the bar in order to get change for the valet. Nice Bar, but no one minding it.
My wife and I have been to the US Grant several times in past years for the great Christmas Brunch up stairs. WHAT HAPPENED for 2019? WOW!!
Christmas!!!
Service and food was exceptional.
This is the second time we had lunch at the Grant Grill before an afternoon SD symphony performance. The first time we enjoyed ourselves and so returned. This time was quite different from our first experience and is as follows: no hostess when we arrived who then showed up and took the phone for several minutes while we stood waiting; very few people in the restaurant and no one at the bar area so it lacked a festive feel Christmas holiday Sunday lunch); after being seated we waited for more than 5 minutes before anyone said anything to us even though there were 3 men waiters going here and there past our table; finally one of the waiters said something and then when into the kitchen and brought out a woman waitress who helped us but did not seem aware that we had been seated; the Manhattan at $16 was not that great; the Cobb salad was not that great; the tuna fish sandwich was very good; and many of the wait people were just standing around with there hands in their pockets (figuratively). Our waitress was very nice but overall we were not happy and probably not return.
J.D. the chef is incredible! Delicious, nutritious & excellent presentation! Pablo the Mgr. Gives everyone a warm welcome! The servers are tentative & make you feel very special! A wonderful experience any time of the day!
I loved the decorations. the food served was fine. My only request would be for you to broaden your menu. To add Organic foods,& Organic Grassfed Meats and more variety. I was stunned there was not a dinner with Crab or Lobster I could order. I was stunned there was only 1 basic salad with green goddess dressing. So a bit more variety. And that you did offer Lamb, but failed to offer the Mint Jelly.
I did love that I was able to get Razberries and Conac for dessert upon request. And that we were both able to make changes to the offered 1 Steak dish and get mashed potatoes and the Asian pear upon request.
So, maybe just Americanise your menu a bit more.
I asked for a Gingerbread MArtini and you did not offer it. So I requested a Chocolate Martini and got something of a Bailey's Martini with zero chocolate in it nor on the rim. It was fine as I love Bailey's and was closer to the Gingerbread Martini I'd originally requested. So, maybe prepare and add some Specialty drinks for Christmas would be nice.
Really appreciated the 20% discount offered along with our Symphony Tiks- Enjoyed the ambiance and even ran into some friends. The waiter was very nice and helpful. And oh yes- Perhaps add a set of Salt & Pepper Shakers to each Table. The Himalayan Salt would be a nice touch. And as the waiter to offer the Pepper when the salad is served. We had to ask for help to request the Shakers and then he offered the Pepper.
Escargot would be nice on your menu..... ;o)
This was a great fine dining experience. The waitress was knowledgeable about wine pairings and was able to make recommendations. We had an amazing time.
Perfect place to celebrate.
It was elegant, beautiful, wonderful service and an amazing food. Every bite was out of this word. The mock Turtle soup was excellent and the Venison 👌 I have no word for it 🥂. Great people. 🥂
