Great food and service. Live music was terrific. Beatrice our server and Alberto the manager were excellent!
Amazing!!!! Delious food, grilled octopus app.was wonderful , great sea food and wine list!
Sergio was fantastic!
The service was impeccable. I had dinner here last night, and breakfast this morning, they all were extremely attentive to my needs. I highly recommend this restaurant
Fantastic meal. Natalie, our server, was attentive and did a great job.
Wonderful service, but not matched by the cuisine, at least the evening present. For example, the veal chop was quite tough, served medium rare. Bread, sort of a cake-like round bun, is not appropriate for dinner, and, in fact, is unpalatable generally. Very vice amuse bouche and complimentary mini-cookies with the check. However, the meat itself was not at all up to par.
Plenty of appearance, short on substance, except the fine service.
I had the scallops and the “almonds” were somewhat strange tasting. The scallops were good. The bread was good. I also had the gnocchi appetizer and it was good. Waiter got very busy and it took awhile to get our wine, and we didn’t get a refill on our water towards the end which I would have appreciated. The hostess was very nice.
We have dined here several times over the past two years, never disappointed.
Fabulous dining and great lounge music. What's not to like?
Great place to celebrate. The Grill brought us some complementary rose champagne as a way to start off our celebration. Wonderful experience and not rushed as we relaxed prior to the symphony to see Yo Yo Ma and friends. Our menus were personalized with Happy Anniversary!! Brandon provided great service and knowledge of the food and beverages.
Perfect before a performance at the Civic Center
Grant Grill has quickly become one of my downtown favorites! The food and service are excellent and it is just across the street from the Civic Theatre which makes it a fantastic pre-show dinner choice. Try sharing dishes so you can sample more of the original chef creations! Thumbs up for sure.
Birthday celebration was perfect not crowded and the place inside is beautiful perfect for any special occasion
There’s a reason why the Grant Grill continues to be on my top ten list of restaurants in the world. The chefs deliver inspiring dishes every visit with touches ahead of trend. The GM Alberto Hollman could teach a master class in service. His team is astounding. Just the exact right level of attention and somehow they manage to remember details of every guest’s preferences. If you are looking for a truly 5 Star dining experience, you won’t be disappointed
It was a perfect place to dine before the opera. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive.
Another spectacular meal at the Grant Grill. Natalie made us feel very welcome and expertly steered us to the more delicious items on the menu. Loved the Seafaring Dragon cocktail - the focaccia is always extremely delicious, and I enjoyed the new Steelhead entrée. But most important, the ambiance and service here are unsurpassed in San Diego. There were 2 different live music acts for background in the lounge, just enough to provide atmosphere in the dining room, but still to be able to have quiet conversation. Love the Grant!
Nice place for a drink. Great live music. We arrive just before the kitchen closed around 9:30. The mock turke soup was very satisfying and the smoked octopus Devine. The service was excellent but my husband’s steak was not the greatest. Tasted too seasoned not the freshest.?? We’d definitely give it another go.
Service was great and food wonderful. The mock turtle soup is a great choice. My dining companion enjoyed the sweet potato soup. Entrees of salmon and lamb were both good choices.
Outstanding restaurant with attentive service, a varied menu, and well-prepared food. The occasion was a birthday celebration, and "Happy Birthday" was even printed on the menu.
The restaurant can’t figure out what it is - an elegant restaurant or a jazz club. The noise level from the live band was so loud to make any conversation completely impossible. The food is very good and appropriately pricey for an elegant restaurant, but doesn’t work together at the dinner hour with a deafening band.
Great menu and cooperative chef with special requests. Great evening.
Had a wonderful dinner! This place never disappoints. Great ambiance for an intimate dinner with outstanding food. The chef is one of a kind and anything you order is fantastic!
Some dishes are outstanding and everything is good. Inspiring cocktails.
Great food, great service and and wonderful decor and ambience. Always have enjoyed the Grant Grill
Wonderful evening! We were attending a play at the Civic...made reservations several days before. Traffic from north county to downtown was miserable! Contacted the Grant Grill while we were en route to advise of traffic issues. The response...'your table will be waiting when you arrive'. How wonderful was this!! While sitting in traffic we viewed the menu to save time once we arrived. We were 40 minutes late.
We shared the citrus salad. It was a piece of art and delicious! Different slices of fruit in the form of a wreath on the plate. We both had the sea bass...it was prepared perfectly atop a bed of farro with fresh vegetables. It just melted in your mouth. You won't go wrong with these items.
Oh...and the service was fantastic! They were aware of our time constraint...we dined without the feeling of being rushed. It was a wonderful evening...thank you Grant Grill.
Great Ambience, Great food and great service.
Excellent choice if going to the Theater because it's right across the street.
They validate parking for 3 hour parking which is great as well.
The Grant Grill is our favorite downtown restaurant. It is consistently excellent.. food, service and setting. Thank you!
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Grant Grill. The service was terrific from the moment we walked into the hotel and into the restaurant. The food was amazing, too!
We went for a date and everything went from amazing to perfect. The food was outstanding (started with the abalone and romaine hearts, I have the lamb rack and she had the salmon). The wine we chose was the Grenache and it was perfect with completary flavors. The we had to have dessert, and the honey semifreddo with black truffle shavings was the perfect cap to the evening. I can’t wait to try some of the cocktails (we arrived a little early and my significant other had one of the Viking cocktails and she loved it), and the rest of the menu.
Went prior to theater. Had happy hour menu. Somewhat limited items. Food was good not great. Very conveniently located. Reasonably priced.
I always receive prompt, courteous service at Grant Grill. Excellent lunch menu and, of course, a very good house Chardonnay.
Gorgeous old dining room - intimate and suited for conversation.
We stopped in for breakfast. The food was very good, but the portions small for the price.
I hear dinner is terrific, and will give it another try.
We had brunch and enjoyed our meal. A number of the menu items are interesting variants on traditional favorites. Ex: Roasted cauliflower quiche, duck confit benedict.
The restaurant is beautiful, & we got the reservation time we wanted before the theatre. But, the service could use some brushing up. Food was good, but the servings are quite small.
Going to see Hamilton at the Civic- great night!
This is not a family style restaurant, the menu has limited options but usually has fish, meat, soup and salads. The bar does a great job with creative cocktails. The ambiance has a more intimate appeal and the tables were spaced well enough that I did not hear other conversations. The staff was friendly and attentive.
It is conveniently located to the Civic Center Theater and is a very good option for dinner before the show.
1/18. The mock turtle soup was lukewarm at best. We had the scallops and sea bass. The fish were adequate but not exceptional. The sides were inedible. The potatoes under the scallops were terrible and the broccoli was limp and bland.
We had tickets to Hamilton at 7:30 pm at the Civic Theater and decided to have dinner beforehand at the Grant Grill at 5:30 pm, a short walk from the theater. By going early and putting money in the meter we were able to park on the street (parking is free after 6 pm), which was a real plus after the theater. We were given a nice oval booth for dinner and the wait staff was very attentive. We were brought warm focaccia bread and a amuse bouche beforehand. We shared a grilled octopus as an appetizer; it was OK, fairly bland, probably would not order again. Our waiter gave my husband a tasting of the soup, which he liked much better. We both had the sea bass which was excellent. I'm not sure what was under the sea bass, rather odd flavored green colored polenta (perhaps?) in the shape of lozenges. I didn't eat much of it. We had tea and coffee afterwards. The coffee comes in a coffee press, which is really nice. And the tea - lots of choices - in a wonderful Japanese cast iron tea pot. Our waitress brought us little chocolate cookies to have with the tea and coffee since we were too full for dessert. We were finished by 7 pm, in time to leave for the theater. Would definitely return here again if we had tickets to the Civic Theater.
I've dined here several times. The food is excellent, the ambiance is beautiful and reminds me of NYC hotels/restaurants, and the service is always superior. My favorite Downtown spot.
This was our first time dining at the Grant Grill before seeing the show Hamilton and the experience added to the whole evening. We noted it was our birthday's when making our reservation on OpenTable and our personalized menus said "Happy Birthday." The staff is very professional and attentive and everything we ordered from the pre-dinner cocktails, to the appetizers (we had the "Mock" turtle soup which is basically braised short rib soup), and then the entree where my wife had the salmon and I ordered the scallops (first time as a main dish) and it was all excellent. Highly Recommend!
