Grant Grill did a great job accommodating our team dinner during a conference in San Diego, this despite the fact I underestimated the group size in our reservation. The dinner was delicious and I liked that the wine list is comprehensive enough to have good choices at all price levels but still accessible and not overwhelming.
From the octopus to the salmon, lamb, sea bass and steelhead, everything was delicious and artful presented
Food was creative and fresh. Service was excellent!
Surprisingly good for a hotel. Sat in a quiet room and had an enjoyable meal. Limited salad options and no chicken on the menu, but enough choices for the group of 4. Great place to go before the theatre nearby. Parking is $17 for all evening and less for just the restaurant. Prices not inexpensive but very fair.
Great restaurant with terrific food, but very slow service.
Great food. We were pleasantly surprised when our waitress remembered us from our last visit over a year ago. She was very solicitous without being obtrusive and made sure we were finished in time for our theater time. Loved our total experience.
Service was very very slow. Hard to get an order taken and then the drinks and food took ages to arrive. Appetizers did not arrive together. One arrived after the main course. Had to get up and get the waitress for a second drink order. This was In The bar area.
Sat at Mayor’s table (he was not able to attend). Great service, great food. Barkeep makes a perfect manhatan.
Top notch service, gorgeous space and delicious food!
This was the third anniversary we celebrated at the Grant Grill. That alone speaks for our ratings of this restaurant. Food is always great, the selection is more limited than some restaurants, but each item that we have eaten over the years has been superb. The portions are perfect. Each entre comes with a complementary vegetable (not one of the listed optional side dishes) that has flavors that complement the entre. The bread, warm and almost addictive. Every time we have eaten at the Grant Grill the service has been perfect, attentive without ever being intrusive. We will return, probably next year because this is becoming our choice for that special occasion.
Great historic beautiful atmosphere
Lovely eggs Benedict & loved my quiche
Excellent food. Waiter is very knowlegeable about the history of hotel and grill. Very historical.
Absolutely Fantastic. One of the nicest restaurants I've been to. Décor, magnificent. Wait staff, super. And food was delicious. The 5 star rating here is well deserved. My Chilean Sea Bass attached.
Ehhh, very much overrated.
Use the Grant Hotel's Valet parking - $10 for 3 hours - can't beat that price anywhere nearby. We were given a sample of the seared Ahi Tuna appetizer - it melted it our mouths. We chose the Roasted Baby Beets and Spanish Octopus for our starters - both were excellent and not over cooked. For the Main Courses we had the Mushroom & Wheat Berry Cakes and the Corriander-Crusted Lamb Loin. The Lamb, reminded me of Fillet Mignon - it was so tender. Our waiter, Sergio, was very knowledgeable and helpful, especially in the selection of an appropriate wine. After dinner we were given a free dessert because it was our anniversary. We were admiring the lounge of The Grant Hotel and one of the employees, Peter, gave us a guided tour. Over all a wonderful experience. A bit pricey, but not unexpected - about $200.00 after tips.
The steak had a smokey additive which took away from the taste. The steaks were both too grizzley, had to cut off almost half. The rest of the meal was fine but tried to be too fancy. The potatoes had too much butter and cheese as an example. I thought for the price, I would have had had a better meal at another fine restaurant so we left disappointed particularly with the steak. I'm sure 99% of customers or even the chef would have agreed. Sorry for the unsatisfactory review but I hope it helps you out.
Outstanding experience. A bit noisy with Thursday night music, but overall a wonderful evening
My dinner was excellent, and the service was supperve. The quality of your food ,preparation and taste was excellent, our waitres was excellent and always had a smile on her face. thank you for a wonderful night, we will return for sure. Rafael.
Great place for the special occasion. In the elegant Grant Hotel, the Grant Grill has been in this location for many years, updated 10 or so years ago. Been here several times.
Now for the restaurant. Mother-in-law's birthday, which was acknowledged when seated. Excellent service by Natalie who was extremely knowledgeable on the drinks we ordered, a brandy Alexander, a Manhattan and a martini with blue cheese olives, all very good. We had octopus, garpacio appetizers, also very good.. Entries of Veal chop, scollops, and sea bass all very good. A birthday candle on a small dessert topped off a fine dining experience.
Good place for a pre theater meal too.
Great food, drinks and service.
Overall a good experience but there were fruit flies.
My wife and just went to Grant Grill for the first time. We will definitely be back. Our server Beatrice was fantastic. Her picture should be next to the word service in the dictionary. The old fashions we had were excellent. My wife had the veal chop and I had the pork chop and shared a side of mashed potatoes. Both were great. Sunday evening was a perfect time for dinner as the place was fairly quiet. Superb!
The one drawback about this visit is the "fee" charged to have dinner - valet parking, $10. This is far too common with restaurants in San Diego and a pet peeve. Our server added a sticker to our valet ticket to validate the parking. It wasn’t a full validation but was intended to reduce the valet charge. We still ended up paying paid full price because we didn't stay 3 hrs. Hence, 4 stars versus 5. Recommend either street parking (good luck with that), Uber/Lyft or take the trolley.
Sergio was a wonderful waiter. He guided us through the menu and we had a absolutely fabulous dinner With great service and great quality
Great food, great service, & great atmosphere! Loved the jazz quartet! Would highly recommend if you're looking for a spot that has style and ambiance.
Una excelente opción para cualquier ocasión. Atención exquisita y un ambiente espectacular. Buena comida. Gran selección de vinos y precio adecuado.
I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest the Grant Grill to my friends as “the” place to be downtown!
This restaurant is truly outstanding in every way.
Like many, I generally stay away from the hotel restaurant where I’m staying. But I had two meals here at the Grill — one a mid-afternoon bar menu meal and one a full-on dinner — both were nicely done, with the much larger dinner menu providing excellent choices for all phases of the meal. Of particular note was the service — professional and efficient. Nice extra: quality jazz trio playing in the bar — not too loud and really a nice add. Check out the super interesting, well curated beer list.
We got a booth/table on the window with a nice view. It was very relaxing and between each part of the meal they did not push for the next order.
Our water glass was filled before it was half empty. Our waiter Sergio was friendly and very pleasant. The food was excellent.
It was a Birthday dinner that my wife and. Enjoyed.
The food is always superb and the menu choices interesting. Beatrice is a SUPERLATIVE server. I always look forward to seeing her smiling gracious face! The Jazz Trio and Vocalist were wonderful.
Typically I avoid hotel restaurants, but the food and service were really excellent. Enjoyed everything from amuse to desert, and very impressed with Brandon our service; as a nice little treat I ordered the fois gras app (excellent), and mentioned by Zinfadel I ordered for my main wouldn't work with it, and he brought a complimentary pairing of Sauternes so I would have the appropriate wine.
Pricy, but a great special occasion restaurant.
Birthday, unfortunately the table was not ready for us when arrived at 9:05pm. Table was set while we sat down and after dinner my boyfriend had remind the server we’re here to celebrate a birthday would like to get some desert. The chef generously offered a complimentary dessert on the house. Thank you.
One of the best meals I’ve eaten, and definitely the best vegetarian meal of my life. I always think a vegetarian meal is the test of a restaurant - if you can go without the animal products and STILL make something’s good you want to lick the plate, it means the chef knows and respects the ingredients. Y-U-M. Really, really good food here.
Brunch for Fathers Day. Mellow attentive staff. Great bacon pancakes
The service was great and the food was off the chain with exquisite taste combinations. High compliments to the Chef. I plan to eat through the menu as time permits asap.
Excellent surprise! We needed something close to the theatre and was pleasantlt surprised! Already recommanded to 2 other thestre goers!
As part of a tour group, we enjoyed two dinners and three breakfasts here. The food and service were consistently good. At dinner, I tried the ribeye and chicken, wife had steelhead. Breakfast included the S’Mores French Toast and Cochinita Pibil, both excellent. The hotel lobby has such a grand, refined feel to it, and while The Grill is much more modern in decor, they work really well together. I regret we didn’t have time to enjoy Kropczynski’s Soft Shell Crab and Iberico Pork tasting....perhaps next time we’re in San Diego. I’d go back.
Excellent meal in a wonderful and historic Grant Hotel. Very creative dining and wonderful service! Expensive, but you get a wonderful meal and great service!
We were in San Diego for pleasure, having never been there I relied on OT for great suggestions. Dining on a Monday night, the restaurant had a very pleasant buzz, beautiful decor, excellent and meticulous service. AND THE FOOD.....one of the finest meals I've ever had the privilege to DEVOUR!! Hubs had the Soft Shell and Iberico ham tasting menu, it was excellent, the crab very fresh and tender (not crunchy like some soft shells). Perfect sized tastings. I had the Farmer's Market Pear and Apple salad, with a slightly citrus dressing, balanced to perfection. My entree, (my mouth is beginning to water) Braised Beef Cheeks served with Stilton bleu cheese tartlet, carmelized red onion, eggplant and stout beer mustard. Ya'll I DON'T LIKE EGGPLANT, and I scraped my plate clean. I'm above licking my plate (in public)! I pray I will be able to visit Grant Grill again soon, although living on the East Coast, it might be proven difficult. But I'm hopeful!
