Granite Restaurant at The Centennial Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful meal, very capable friendly server....dinner was not rushed nor did we wait long. Love the old building...thought buying the wine by different ounces was perfect. Salmon was wonderful and the filet melted in my mouth. Very relaxing enjoyable meal.
I have been dining at the Granite for more than 17 years and this meal will be my last visit. The charm and elegance of the staff is gone; the waitress was more suited for a diner than an upscale restaurant. The menu has lost its adventurous appeal and overall quality. The kitchen did not make a dish correctly and one meal had to be returned. It is disappointing to lose the Granite as a dining choice.
I like the location and ambiance here. However the evening we went the waitress was maybe having a bad night? Not personable what so ever. The clam chowder was like water and bacon. Very poor. Now the good part.... great wine selection, the filet mignon was like butter, and the salmon was cooked perfectly. They have a really good bar food menu too. The hostess in the front was very friendly! The wait staff should be much more personable and friendly we felt.
I have not written a bad review in a long time and I normally wait a day so I am calm about it.
Our server was downright rude, she pronounced the name of a wine wrong and I corrected her and it was downhill from there. She dripped wine when she poured it, spilled part of a martini and never apologized or checked on us once meals were delivered!!
1st the restaurant has a bunch of Wine Spectator excellence awards but was out of the first Pinot Noir I picked, didn't deliver the other. I changed to a bottle of nice burgundy and it shows up warm... Wine Spectator you need to do a better job.
Dinner on a Monday I realize not alway getting the chef, most likely the sous chef or below.
Scallops and Risotto which local friends recommend. Scallops cooked well, Risotto was mush... I mean mush!!
Wife got the pork chop, it was cold... not luke warm when it arrives cold and a glaze look of I have been sitting for 10 minutes in the kitchen look to it.
I will say the gnocchi appetizer was very good and imaginative!
Check arrives and low and behold 2 bottles of wine on the check, one I didn't receive and the lukewarm one I did ...
I didn't make a fuss as we were with friends who picked the restaurant and I didn't want to embarrass them. Granite I hope this wasn't your best foot forward and just a Monday glitch because it was bad and if I was a food critic or a Wine Spectator critic you would of lost your rating!!
Was very disappointed.we were 15 minutes early. They made us feel like we had done something wrong. We asked to sit at the bar(second mistake). Bartender acted like we did not belong there. Refused to give my wife a taste of wine that a patron sitting next to us suggested. When we were finally seated the waitress made us feel very rushed. My wife’s dinner was over cooked. My plate was not plated as described in the menu. WILL NOT BE RETURNING!!!!!!
We had dinner at Granite two nights and we generally enjoyed it. We especially liked the scallops and risotto and the lamb lollipops. The buttermilk fried chicken was nice, but we didn't enjoy it as much. We thought that the bibb salad and the salmon were fairly bland.
The restaurant was pretty quiet, which we appreciate since so many restaurants are so noisy that it's hard to enjoy the experience. One night there was a two-piece jazz band, but it was low-key and not a problem. (The music wasn't to our taste, but it was low enough not to bother us.)
Both servers who helped us were very attentive and that helped as well.
We were there to have a date night (which is rare for those with kids as we all know). Everything was perfect--my only wish was that our 2-top table was smaller which seems like a funny request--we had a hard time talking quietly to each other and then hearing each other as we were sort of far away from each other.
I visited this restaurant twice during this stay. My dinner experience was that the food was well prepared and the service was outstanding. I did find dining area very noisy which at times made it hard to have a conversation. The bar is located within the dining area and it was a Friday night. I also visited for brunch. This time it was not as lively, so it was easy to have a conversation. The service was slightly below average. I would give the food an 8 out of 10 rating. It was slightly cold and over cooked. I did not think the value was there. So, bottom line, I would recommend this restaurant highly for dinner, but would find another place for locally for brunch.
Lovely evening spent at the Granite restaurant at the Centennial Hotel learning about history of this wonderful place. After a tour of the turret room in the hotel we started our meal with a delicious cheese plate, wonderful blue and cloth bound cheddar. This was followed with a round of appetizers and a main course of pan seared scallops with risotto. There is also a very good wine selection.
A shared cholocate dessert finished a wonderful meal, searved by a able and attentive waiter, Kory!
I recommend you go as soon as possible!
This was our second visit to Granite Restaurant and it will continue to be our go to spot in Concord, NH. The lollipop lamb chops with charred Belgium endive was wonderful. The Ceasar salad was nothing outstanding, but good. The salmon was fresh and nicely prepared, as was the sirloin steak. The roasted baby potatoes were slightly over done. The teenage boy in our party was smitten with the tasty, warm rolls. The chef has a nice hand with spices and other seasoning.
Very nice and intriguing cocktail menu.
The waitperson was outstanding. Her tableside manner, professionalism and knowledge was impressive - not at all in a pretentious way. The menu has changed since we were last there (perhaps due to the new chef), but was equally creative and the presentation was excellent. I like that they offer large and small plate versions of many of the entrees. Our cocktails were excellent - especially the signature special for the month!
We started with cocktails at the bar - very good! Everything we ate was fresh and in season. The rolls were freshly baked, with a selection of spreads. The seafood was cooked to perfection. Appreciated the half portion entree so I saved room for dessert, which was also wonderful. Even on a Saturday night the service was excellent, both at the bar and at the table. We would highly recommend the Granite Restaurant, for a special occasion, or just for a great meal.
I changed our reservation from 6:30 to 7:30 and was told very nicely that it might be very crowded. It was not and after waiting 10-15 minutes we went in and the room was 3/4 empty.
This is the 3rd time we have been there and were disappointed. I do believe 3 times are enough.
We usually go here for special occasions. Were a bit nervous because of a few recent mediocre reviews. Concerns were misplaced. Service was excellent. Food ranged from above average to superb. We were not rushed through, nor were we delayed. The choice of ordering half size portions was appreciated. We will be back!
Our waitperson, Nicholas, was attentive but not overbearing. He was knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list. He did an outstanding job. I can't say enough about the quality of the food. This has become one of our favorite places for date night.
I was a little hesitant to make a reservation because many previous reviews had negative responses about the service. However Inhave lived in the area for years and decided to give it a try. My husband had been out of town and we wanted a great meal and quiet conversation. We were greeted by the hostess, who brought us right to our table and engaged in small talk and smile. She explained some of the menu and specials. The waitress brought over water immediately, offered sparkling water or bottled as well. She gave us ample time to look over our menus and was cautious about interrupting our conversation. After our dessert, the manager came over to check on our experience. I thought it was a nice gesture. We did not feel hurried or ignored. It was a pleasant experience. The food was delicious. We both had duck. They offer half portions as well. We ordered half desserts. Beautiful playing and good wine. I would recommend for date night or special occasion!
The sides that came with my meal were entirely different from the menu, of which I was never notified, and they consisted of several whole cloves of garlic and the butt of an onion which was offputting.
Otherwise the rest of the food was fairly meh and certainly not worth the high price point. I contacted the restaurant after and of course got no response.
I ordered the mussels and they had no flavor. I ordered the soup of the night an it was cold. So far two for two. I ordered the chicken special an recieved it way to hot , burnt my lip. Had to wait for it to cool off .had the cheese cake to Finish it off. That was perfect. I will give it another try.anyone can have an off night
Our evening began at the bar where we were heartily welcomed by Crawford, the bartender, who made us some amazing cocktails. The hostess showed us to our table, and our server was very friendly and efficient. They were very accommodating as one of our guests requires gluten-free options. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. This has become our favorite go-to-restaurant in Concord.
We have dined here many times over the years, with many different experiences in the quality of the food. Friday night was truly disappointing. There were four of us and we were celebrating a birthday.
To begin, the two kinds of bread were very dry and stale. With the exception of one salad, every dish was poorly executed. The gnocchi was extremely bland and tasted very mass -produced. The chicken primavera which I ordered as a vegetarian item had only peas and ham. It was basically pasta in a thin, watery sauce. I had been told it would contain several vegetables. The salmon was a tiny portion of very dry, tough, thin, tasteless fish accompanied by a paltry amount of vegetables.
The chocolate dessert was cold and dry. It was supposed to be served warm. I could go on and on. We waited for 45 minutes between courses and it was not busy that evening. Then the server brought the wrong entree for one of us and we waited another 20 minutes for that to be corrected!
I cannot begin to describe how disappointed and surprised we all were by the very poor quality of cuisine and utter lack of fresh, homemade food that evening. How could someone show such a lack of pride in what s/he (they) are creating and serving?
I have been to this restaurant many times, and this is the first time I was disappointed...which is why I said I would still recommend it. The service was very slow. I like a slower pace for a nice dinner, but this was a frustrating pace, not a quiet pace. The server brought us the wrong drink, and then charged us for it anyway. The drinks we ordered toward the end of our meal ended up being cancelled, because she never communicated them to the bartender, and we were more than ready to leave at that point. We still had to get up and find her to cash us out, after waiting 20 minutes for drinks that never came, and then another 10 for her to not come to the table to cash us out. The food was perfectly fine. We shared the lamb lollipops and a cheese plate to start, and each were good. I had the half New York Strip, and it was cooked perfectly, but the sides were not a good compliment. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals.
Very nice setting. We had an awesome waitress, Carol. My wife had a 6oz glass of chianti and I ordered their Port Old Fashion. Both were very good. We had gnocchi which was ok. The half scallops & risotto, which was ok as well. To be fair we just got back from Italy where we had amazing risotto. We also shared chicken primavera.
Great fine-dining find for us! From Arizona, on vacation, stayed in Concord for a few nights and found this gem on the web! Service from Nick was excellent, and everything we had was delicious. Decent wine list reasonably priced. Next time we are in Concord, we will definitely return!
I usually enjoy all my meals at the restaurant however I ordered the smoked salmon offering for brunch. It was a deconstructed affair and did not work. It did not need the potatoes but needed more bread, ca pers that were not mixed in a cream and more toast. I would suggest that this be replaced with a more traditional smoked salmon.
I think there has been a change in the quality of the food. The salad was also off for me. I feel you must have a new chef. I think you need to look at everything. When you have a menu that works one should exercise care in changing it.
Our waiter was just the right balance of being in proximity to serve and answer questions but not too intrusive. For an appetizer, I'd recommend the Grilled Lamb Lollipops with pistachio butter and cherry compote. Both salads we chose were crisp and tasty with savory homemade dressings. I preferred the Leek Wrapped Cod as an entree over the Scallops and Risotto.
