Great meal we enjoyed the whole experience this evening
Very nice room/food. Great, attentive, knowledgeable waiter. Nice wine selection, both red the Granite Hotel, is a lovingly-restored brick former school(?) sitting on a hill above Concord. Very pleasant!
Started off well. Service was excellent to begin, but once it got busy, the serviced waned a bit. Over 20 minutes between the salad and the main entree, with no explanation offered. Food was very good, but my duck was recommended by the chef to be cooked between medium rare to medium, but IMO, it was rare. Yes, I would recommend this establishment to a friend, or anyone else, and I would go there again.
While the food was well prepared and excellent, the service could have been better. We very much enjoyed the fact that you could get half portions of many entrees. This enticed is to get soup, appetizer or dessert. I had the cod and my wife had the pork loin and both were excellent. The miscues of the night were our waiter forgetting my soup (which he didn't charge me for) and putting what looked like watercress on our apple pie and ice cream dessert. None of us, including the waiter, could figure out why you would do that to a dessert. Overall a nice dinner in an old hotel with nice ambiance (and it wasn't too noisy, which I hate).
My wife and I have dined at Granite Restaurant many times, This was our favorite experience. We started by sharing a cheese plate; then she had a half portion of cod loin and I had a half portion of bronzed scallops. She had two glasses of red wine and I had two Manhattans. I can't put my finger on what made this time seem really special. But we are very pleased that the restaurant offers half portions and hope they always will. I also like the fact that I can use Open Table to easily make a reservation.
Thank you Hiram for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the new fall menu. If anyone could put a finger on what makes a restaurant this special I think there would be dozens of us. However I can tell you we are blessed with a great staff and a very talented chef. Thank you for taking the time to leave this review, we can't wait to see you back in.
Busy night with special events happening around town but food was good & service pleasant
Our entree should had been warmer. We were dining with friends and did not want to complain. Would have if we had been dining alone. Otherwise it was as good as ever.
My wife and I had dinner there this past weekend (Sat 5:30 reservation). We were both amazed at how charming this place was. Nice ambiance. Very quiet. I requested a quiet table by a window in the opentable reservation and they noticed that and lead us straight to a table that was perfect.
We had drinks to start and they brought bread. My wife was looking for a crisp wine and was asking about the differences between two vintages they had. Lucy, our server, was very nice and brought a tasting sample for both of us to try. Throughout the meal, she was very pleasant and helpful.
We loved the half portions. We could try more things without getting over stuffed either physically or in the bill. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the scallops. Both were wonderful. We finished it off with Cheesecake (ok, no half portion here) and the moca moose.
The food, drink, service and atmosphere were all wonderful and we look forward to going back.
Hello GaryJ and thank you for the lovely review. I'm glad you got to enjoy your time with Lucy, she is certainly wonderful. It looks like you joined us days before the fall menu launch so you will definitely have to come back soon and see what chef has prepared for the colder season. Hope to see you soon, Cheers!
Food and service excellent. Loved the half portion option
Thank you for the review CharleenN, can't wait to see you back in! Our fall seasonal menu is now live, and worth coming back to check out!
The Granite is a great place for a special date or special occasion. Great food, service and ambience.
Nice meal in a quiet setting. Enjoyed the special soup of the day as well as the Caesar salad. Best part were the seared scallops on my salad! Yum!!
Wonderful service. We didn’t feel rushed and our waitress did an outstanding job.
We took my sister in-law here. She is a gourmet cook herself and hard to please but she loved it. We were happy with the half sized portions too.
Based on reviews, we were very disappointed. Everything sounded delicious but our appetizer was not even edible. Tasted like the duck was not fresh and re-heated. The waiter was kind enough to take it off of our bill when he noticed that we didn't eat it. Our meals were fine but nothing special. The bar is centrally located and there were a couple of loud people there which carries thru. Otherwise the space is nice and the staff was great. Dessert and cocktails were good, but the food was definitely lacking. Maybe they were trying out a new chef?
Thank you for the feedback tracief, I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't up to standard. My name is Ryan Burke and I am the Food and Beverage Director at granite. Feel free to call me in the restaurant Tuesday through Saturday. Your feedback helps us continue to improve and your opinion is valuable to us. We would love to have you back in to show you our best. Cheers!
It was our first visit to Granite. The menu was wonderful! We had a lovely time.
Evening was very enjoyable, food was good, service was good, atmosphere was good
Food and ambiance was great but service was a little slow
Great food and Lucy, our server, was very friendly and attentive. Date night deal was an added bonus! We will be back.
Stayed at The Centennial hotel and had a birthday dinner at the restaurant. It was great to be able to walk right up to our room afterwards! The appetizers were delicious. Special dipping oil for the bread was a highlight of the meal. The drinks were solid. My husband’s meal was very good though my pasta was not that great. Overall we thought the service was amazing and it was a special meal.
Food was delicious as always. Shayna was a gracious waitress. It was noisier than at our other visits but figured it was because it was a Friday night.
Have been to the Granite many times and always enjoy the restaurant. Food quality is always good and I enjoy the ambiance. Would have no problem recommending the place.
Everything about our dinner was excellent - and Nick delivered his usual first-rate service. Thanks for making it a memorable evening!
Ribeye was ordered medium and was served rare the other entrée was barely warm.....basically cold. Ordered more rolls and 2 appetizers and desserts and coffee and those were good but figured we’d get AT LEAST the desserts free of charge for the inconvenience and we were there for over 2 hours. Only a few other couples were in and out so was not busy. We’ve been coming there once or twice a year for almost 5 years for special occasions.....Anniversary, Valentine’s Day New Year’s Eve......being from Boston this is the place we choose up here for those occasions.
Hi ScottH, Thank you for taking the time to leave us this feedback. I'm glad to hear you have been longtime guests in our restaurant, and I'm very sorry we missed the mark on your most recent visit. My name is Ryan Burke and I am the Food and Beverage Director here, We would love to have you back in to make it up to you. I know you go out of your way to travel up here and see us and would like to make things extra special next time you are in the area.
My wife & I enjoyed an anniversary dinner topped off with complimentary desert from the restaurant. Both the filet & shrimp dishes were tasty & well prepared. We especially liked the cheese platter as an appetizer as well as the salads were a great way to start. On the expensive side so probably not somewhere you want to go to regularly but great for a special event.
Hey SteveE, Thank you for the kind feedback, I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit and that you consider us for such a special occasion. If you did want to join us on a weekly(or even daily) basis, we have an excellent happy hour Monday through Friday 4-6 with $4 cocktails, $5 dollar drafts, and $6 glasses of wine. We also have some great food prepared by our talented chefs available with it all for under $5. Hope to see you back soon!
Birthday celebration for my 94 year old mother. It was perfect!
Friendly staff. Service was great. Food was cooked perfectly. The only suggestion is to add more clams to the chowder. Awesome restaurant. Can’t wait to go back.
Hi ClaireH, thanks for the suggestion. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to many more in the future. Check back in October for our new fall menu!
Enjoyed dinner with a longtime friend. Granite is a great place that combines a fine-dining experience along with a setting that’s conducive to enjoyable conversation. The half-portion option on many of the menu offerings is a great way to sample the creative offerings on the menu.
Inconsistent meals depending on who was in the kitchen
I live in Bow so I eat in Concord all the time and this was the nicest experience I’ve had in all my years dining in the area. Nicholas, our waiter, was knowledgeable and experienced, he had a sincere charm and we both felt that he made the night for us. The food was impeccable prepared with fresh ingredients. My scallops and pork belly arrived in front of me still sizzling from the skillet which made them a real treat.
The dining room was crowded but never noisy and there was attention to every detail. I look forward to going back.
Great hidden gem in side a hotel converted from a former women’s residence. Might not have found it without GPS. Parked and entered from back of hotel.
The food was fabulously and service great.
A smaller restaurant so it was nice.
Definitely worth seeking out when in the area.
This was an incredible and unexpected find on our first trip to Concord! We enjoyed a leisurely meal and every course was outstanding. We especially appreciated the half portion options so we could try a number of the intriguing offerings.
Not great at all.
If you want a relaxed dinner than you have to book a table at 6.30 PM. We were there at 7.30 and they managed to get us out of the restaurant at 9PM after a 4 course dinner. Had the feeling I was at a Chinese restaurant. The appetizer was finished before they had time to serve the bread and olive oil. The soups were lukewarm and the asparagus soup tasted or spinach. The maincourse was served before the soup cups were removed from the table. Desert came with the check but the waitress said take it easy when I made a remark. The experience made you forget about the food. The clam chowder was good though luke warm. Half portion or pork tenderloin was good too. The scallops and pork belly were well prepared but too much corn and reheated kale. The rhubarb tartlet was soggy and too sweet, the sorbet was good.
We hope there are better restaurants in Concord where waiters don't want to go home at 9.
Thank you for your detailed Feedback. I'm sorry to hear that your recent visit was not up to your expectations. At the Granite Restaurant we pride ourselves in serving excellent fresh food with outstanding hospitality and it would appear we missed the mark. We strive to be our best and require feedback like yours to do our part. We hope to hear from you again and have you back for a more Granite appropriate experience.
Overall, a nice experience. One of my friends and I had the fish & chips. I thought I had read that it came with mustard slaw and a lemon wedge, neither of which was on our plates. I thought perhaps I misread the menu. However, when I got home I looked online and it does say that. That is the reason I gave a couple of 4 stars. The fish was delicious and our server was personable and attentive. I should have asked him at the time, but I didn’t so that is partly my fault.
Hi Karen, sorry we missed your slaw! We appreciate you taking the time to write this review, and I'm glad your overall experience wasn't ruined. Never be afraid to speak to your server or any of our staff if you think we are in error. While mistakes are unavoidable we are committed to correcting them in the moment when possible. My name is Ryan Burke and I am the manager in the restaurant. I would love to meet you next time you are in for lunch, and we will make sure your order is just right!
Our waitress, Debbie, was excellent. We had tables in s private room, which we as wonderful. The people who ordered steak thought it was great, and perfectly cooked. I thought the red snapper was ok, though it had a lot of butter on it. The Caesar salad was just ok. The Creme Brûlée was not very good, not at all silly, more like ordinary pudding.
Hi Anon, Glad to hear Debbie took great care of you. We certainly apply a generous amount of butter in some of our french inspired dishes, however everything is made to order and can be customized to your liking. Our chefs would be happy to dial in each dish to your specifications. It's unfortunate that you did not enjoy the creme Brûlée (though I applaud your perfect spelling and notation). My name is Ryan and I am the manager in the restaurant, next time you stop in dessert's on me!
We had a great dinner here prior to attending the concert in town. We were early and hence I suspect the reason it was so quiet and the fact we had great service. The food was very good as it should be for the price. The wines were quite pricey as well.
This was a delightful surprise in Concord. We had gone on line to find a place to go to celebrate our 50th anniversary while we were at our lake cottage nearby. We chose well. Our server Shayna was charming and comped our desserts in honor of the occasion.
Thank you Richard for choosing us for your special occasion. I'm glad you enjoyed your experience and hopefully we can see you more than once a year. Stay tuned for our website and our promotions as there are plenty of great reasons to come back. Perhaps we will see you in for our date night prix fixe menu on Wednesdays! Congratulations on your anniversary, cheers to many more to come!
My wife and I love this restaurant. We travel to Concord every year for the NASCAR race at Loudon and after finding the Granite, we make it our priority to have dinner there.
We are so glad that you make us a destination for your vacation jandk1988! We'll look forward to seeing you in next year, and any time in between you find yourself in town. Hopefully you have a chance to stay in our beautiful Centennial Hotel at some point as well.
The food is outstanding and so is the service. The restaurant can be very noisy making it very difficult to carry on a conversation, especially once the music starts. The bar sits in the middle of the restaurant which doesn't help. The chairs are too low to comfortably sit at table for dining.
This is a convenient location & restaurant for meeting old work friends. The space is lovely and our server was great, since he never provided us w/ his name, I can’t call him out. He was perfect for us chatty gals doing a lot of catching up.
The food is good but nothing outstanding, which seems to be typical for Concord, NH restaurants. The wine, Sartorial Pinot Grigio, was delicious - it was a nice offering. Three of us had the Tuesday night special, which was a gnocchi bolognese - eh. The dessert was the star of the special offering - strawberry cannoli- yum.
The company was fantastic, & the good, balanced service made this a delightful night out. The staff is pleasant and the food is decent & moderately priced. Decent price/performance.
What a great dinner on way home from vacation. The whole experience was excellent with a very accommodating and informative waitress!!
