Nice brunch for family (grandfather / granddaughter), good food & drinks. Cocktails are OK but a little weak and overpriced. One disappointment since last time having brunch here was a smaller selection and the Scotch eggs were no longer on the brunch menu.
Being forced to donate to a cause that I know nothing about is not cool. We showed up for dinner and were "forced" to donate to some cause, I don't mind giving donations, but if you are going to increase the prices of everything you should let people know up front.
I never made it here in college but was very pleased when I snagged a reservation day of on Parent's weekend. Everyone in my party absolutely loved the menu and we were all very pleased with all of our entrees and cocktails. Would definitely go back in the future!
We visited Grange again last week, bringing along additional friends - first timers! The food was excellent, the service was great and the bar tenders serve the best martini's in Ann Arbor. Wine selection is good and pricing was appropriate for the evening - about $50/person which included food, cocktails and dessert. We gave is 5 stars - this was our 2nd trip to Grange
Second time here with the first being very good. This time was ok. I had duck which was overly salty and a bit chewy. My wife had the chicken which she said was good. Good beer and Cocktail selection. Small complaint is the hard seating which is a bit uncomfortable for my bony butt after 45 minutes. Cushions would be great.
As always the food was awesome. We had four different entrees at our table: Bo Saam (the special), Pan fried chicken, Walleye, and Duck Breast. The duck livers and pierogis for appetizers were perfect. The evening went a bit longer than usual, which I wouldn't normally mind, except my body was getting tired of sitting on the wood seat - I should have taken the cushion they offer! The Grange is our favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor. We very much appreciate the commitment to using local ingredients and the chefs' creativity and talent.
A friendly, comfortable restaurant specializing in local ingredients. Our latest venture was surprisingly quiet considering it was the day of a home football rivalry, (or maybe that's why). The meal, including a rabbit-pheasant terrine, duck breast and walleye were all well prepared & presented. The duck fat fries were particularly good.
We drove to Ann Arbor for a night out. Saw the reviews and decided on the Grange.
Service was friendly but very slow. Produce was good quality, but poorly prepared.
My pork loin was Cooked on one half and raw on the other. I pointed it out to the waitress who said she would let the cook know.
That was it...no apologies.
Duck main was presented beautifully but once the polenta and the tomato stew mixed together it was not appealing at at all..just a messy puddle.
All in all it was a less than satisfying evening.
Food was spot on as always. Moved to California and had to eat here when we came back to visit. Everyone loved the trout and the whitefish dishes. I loved the duck. Upstairs bar pours a good stiff drink. Recommend to everyone, the menu can be underwhelming but have always enjoyed the every meal!
Was impressed with the farm-to-table offerings at Grange. A nice variety of locally-sourced vegetables, fish, and meats. The atmosphere is warm but a bit spare, with lots of wood, including fairly uncomfortable wooden chairs. I've eaten at most of the better restaurants in Ann Arbor and the menu here stands out. However, they need to be more careful with some of the recipes. For example, I had a lovely piece of whitefish (which I can't get on the East Coast), but it was on top of an overly sweet creamed corn, that drowned out the subtler flavors of the fish. I like the concept of new takes on old comfort food like creamed corn, but please pair it with something else, like chicken or pork. But this is a fairly minor quibble and partly on me, because I chose this pairing when I ordered.
Our server was very good. The apps and desserts tended to outshine our entrees, (salmon and lamb leg). I would have liked some type of bread or cracker with the meal. Drinks slightly above avg. Lamb was a little tough, salmon a little overpowered by the accompanying sauce. Worth another visit but would order something else. It's Ann Arbor, you gotta bring your A game.
A wonderful experience! Not a thing we ate was sub-par. First time in a while that I spent more than $40 a person and felt I got my money's worth. Drinks were mixed to perfection, starter was satisfying (portion-wise) and delicious, but did not overwhelm the pallet. Entrees were spot on (duck and salmon). Accompaniments were stellar, but did not detract. Ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Dessert was original, unique and tasty. We'll definitely return!
Using local, seasonal ingredients each item we ordered delighted my senses of taste and texture with it's creativity and finesse. Service was excellent and our server did a very good job of describing how some unusual combinations were worth trying, and I was so glad she did. This restaurant is in the pricey category, but unlike places that may have larger portions, flashier decor, every bite is delightful, and you'll have room for dessert which will also delight. My second visit here, this is now my favorite restaurant in our restaurant- packed downtown.
Our dining experience lasted over 3 hours on a Tuesday night - the restaurant was close to empty and the waitress took forever to take our drink orders, dining orders and to give us the check and when we sat for 15 minutes waiting for someone to take the charge card we finally had to go into the kitchen to find someone! We asked for the manager and the manager did not seem to really care ( we are not sure if she really was the manager), she just said I will talk to the waitress about it. We have many choices in Ann Arbor and will pick out someplace else next time!
Everyrthing we ordered was superb. First time I've seen M43 beer at a bar/restaurant. Charcuterie plate was a treat. Very simple corn / tomato salad tasted like everything was picked just before plating. Duck breast w/ lion's mane mushrooms (has to ask, they were delicious,) was applause worthy. Lake trout fantastic. They weren't particularly busy, but plenty of other diners were there, still quiet enough for intimate conversation. They actually have acoustic treatments on the ceiling to keep the room quiet. Service was great, our server had answers to all of our questions. Pricey, but not insane. Worth every penny. We will be back.
I ate here for the first time with three other people to celebrate a birthday. The service was fantastic but I was not "wowed" by the food. Especially with the price you pay for each dish. Note: I am a a vegetarian and all other three people at my table were not. They enjoyed their meals but I didn't think mine was anything special. So this could be a good place for meat easters but not vegetarians.
