Grand Finale was not my taste, but it definitely has loads of character. It is good for groups and definitely for those that appreciate history. I could see this as an ideal location for a family celebration with older relatives. The location is great. Their only competition that is close is chain fare. The food just wasn't my taste and I thought the prices were very high. That being said- the cheesecake was some of the best I ever had. I get the name Grand Finale...
Halibut was fine. Soup of the day was delightful. Salads were average. Seafood pasta just ok. Crepes, which are obviously a mainstay given their real estate on the menu were subpar. They should be taken away.
Seating was crowded and cumbersome.
Our waitress however was seasoned at her job.
Our food was very good and the server was efficient and friendly. We didn't feel pushed to wrap up our meal for the next patron.
Excellent food and service but the adjacent large group at the next table was loud.
We have enjoyed Grand Finale for many years. We go there for special occasions. This time, for Mother's Day, the 2 filet were not as prepared as well as in the past. We didn't say anything. I'm sure they would have corrected the overcooked, dry filet, that is our fault because we don't like to complain. We go to restaurants that are up to our standards so we don't have to send anything back. The service was excellent. The crepes, dessert, and wine were all very tasty. I am sure we will go again. I know it is crazy for Mother's day. Maybe they had a bad day in the kitchen.
Great service, great food, no wait with reservation. Highly recommend for all occasions.
Food was very good. A bit pricey.
Raspberry lemon cheesecake was the best.
Good service, nice restaurant maybe $5.00 more expensive per entree than I thought reasonable
Dinner reservations for 2 on Friday nite at 630pm. Always enjoy the food and ambiance but a freshening is needed. The restaurant is in a 100+ year old building and so is a quaint dining spot.
On arriving the first thing we saw was a large quantity (20-30)of old dried leaves tracked in on the foyer floor carpet(sweeper?). The wine glasses arrived and were proudly presented by wait-staff but were covered in water dripmarks (bar towel?) The silverware also presented with water dripmarks and the spoons had water marks in the bowls (dish towel?).
The restaurant was busy but not slammed. I believe that the restaurant is beginning to suffer from a "business as usual" mindset.
Crepes were not as good as usual. Something in the sauce was different. Waiter was so so.
Old place catering to old people. All the food was over cooked, vegetables mushy, small portions, and mixed drinks not well made. Very disappointing given it was 4.5 stars on open table...
Great service. Always fresh food. Desserts are out of this world!!
Both the food and the company were good. The special meal deal with a bottle of wine or dessert was tasty and a good value for the prices.
Good food and ambiance. However upon making the reservation as well as on confirming it the afternoon of, I reminded the restaurant that we were celebrating a birthday. Even though they said they would have a special acknowledgement, there was nothing special done or no acknowledgement. Disappointed in that part of the evening. It’s too bad that what was a nice evening didn’t turn out to be a memorable one.
I've been going to restaurant for over 25 years. My sister was in town and my mother wanted to take us both out. She chose here. I'd made a reservation but when we arrived the first person who we spoke to was a tad rude and told my 84 year old mother she'd get to us when she got to us. They were very busy for a late lunch but we finally got seated. Our server was "spacey" our cocktails were not delivered until after our salads. The salads and the main dishes were tasty but again service was spotty. I was eating paleo so the special and the salad were acceptable but the option of crepes, mashed potatoes or rice meant I gave my side to my sister. The desserts as usual here were the star of the meal. Between the apple cinnamon cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake the meal ended on a good note.
I have to say I am disappointed by this meal. For the cost of a meal here, I expect excellent service along with an excellent meal. We got below average service and an excellent dessert.
Our server, Karyn was fantastic. We really appreciated all she did for us.
Quaint establishment! Kind, courteous, personable staff. Pleasant atmosphere. Food prepared to a delightful degree! Overall, an enjoyable experience!
The meal was good. The waitress seemed pretty busy. Giving us another minute to review the menu, turned into over 10 minutes.
Always delicious food with a wonderful, varied menu and a charming atmosphere.
In 33 yeas of dining there we have never had a bad meal until last night. Things the normally do right, they could not get straight. The first round of crepes were burnt to the bottom of the disk and there was too much liquid. The second batch still had way to much liquid and were not edible. Then we ordered the ginger chicken skewers. They were skinny and dry. I can say the salad and dessert was good, but after 2 hours we left hungry and exhausted. They comped the meal, but we did not get the great meal we expected. We used to be regulars, but we have cut back as other restaurants provide more consistent positive experiences.
I always love the Grand Finale. The service is personal and attentive. The atmosphere is so nice..quaint and charming would be my description. I especially enjoy the crepes and the desserts. outstanding!
be sure to give it a try. you won't be disappointed.
My husband & lived in Cincy for many years & often dined at Grande Finale for lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch, many special occasions. We hadn’t dined at GF for probably 5 years since we moved back to the Dayton area. It has always been my favorite restaurant even after our move. So Saturday I expected to fight a crowd waiting in the lobby. There was no crowd at 6:45 on a Saturday night. Frankly I was a bit worried. However our dining experience did not disappoint, it was every bit as good as I remembered. We had artichoke fritters to start, French onion soup, Caesar salad, ginger chicken, the halibut special, spinach & mushroom crepes & a great bottle of wine. Coffee to finish. Our server was great, service was very attentive from every person who waited on us, clearing plates, refilling drinks, etc. The recipes are still fantastic.
However, it’s time to consult a designer & remodel the dining room. It was clean but so worn & tired, from the striped canopy ceilings to the carpet. Please consider modernization & possibly attract a younger clientele. I would be very sad to see GF close & promise to return often but please consider refreshing the restaurant.
A big fan.
Never disappoints. Super waitress, excellent food. classic building.
I felt the food was way overpriced. Ordered the rack of lamb and it was not tender at all and should have been melting in my mouth for $35.50. Service was very good and everyone very friendly and cordial. The ambiance was nice but I must have ordered the wrong thing.
We were celebrating a birthday and there is no better place than The Grand Finale. Menu, service, ambiance, all adding up to a memorable dinner.
Great food and service, many be a little slow if on a business lunch.
Apple Cinnamon Cheesecake is the best dessert in the city!
Awesome food, ambiance, and service. Can’t wait to go back!!!
We had a group of nine people for Saturday night dinner. Everyone was pleased with their meal and enjoyed dining in the private room in the front of the restaurant. Some of us arrived early planning to have a drink at the bar, but it was not open for service. Not sure why the bar wouldn't be open on a Saturday night.
Has been many years since have been to Grand Finale and it was just like I remembered. Food, drink, and service were excellent. Atmosphere was perfect to be able to sit and have a conversation without having to talk over loud music or other tables conversations. Special " Thank You " to Mike our server. Great Job!
Great place to
Eat with Family
Service and food were excellent. Driving from Dayton for 45 year wedding anniversary with friends made for an excellent evening.
Fantastic as always!! Don’t change ANYTHING!!
I have always loved The Grand Finale! I took my son there for his birthday to have him try the Puff Pastry for dessert! I love the staff and the food!
We have had many Family celebrations at the Grand Finale. Some weekend dinner but mostly Sunday Brunch. Fantastic atmosphere. Good Food Good Service. We look forward to our next time.
Disappointed. I had not been to the Grand Finale in a long time. I made the reservation to celebrate my birthday with family. I was not aware that the Sunday noon time was a buffet brunch ONLY. The food was lukewarm, and not as high quality as I remember. There was not one thing that I tried that I thought, "Oh, this is to die for." The dining areas were so crowded that you had to lean over to avoid getting jostled by passing patrons and wait staff. I would be willing to try GF again, but never on Sunday... a buffet is never worth my time.
Recommended by a friend. Great food. Would definitely return.
We absolutely love the Grand Finale! Every staff member is sensational. Vicki does an amazing job running this top notch restaurant. Food is outstanding. We especially enjoy Margie as our waitress!!!!!
