Grand Dining Room at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel Ratings and Reviews
The dining room is beautiful and we enjoyed the pianist. However, our overall experience was below expectations for a restaurant whose prices exceed $30 for almost all a la carte entrees and whose appetizers exceed $10. We were seated at the front of the restaurant (which was less than half full) near the pianist. Unfortunately, a few minutes after sitting down, we realized we were right by the kitchen whose door swung open frequently. Worse, all the servers often went by our table and the floor shook as a couple of them ran by. This went on throughout the evening. Our server, Wilton, was very pleasant but service was slow and the food was not hot when delivered. My grouper was tough to the point that I wondered if it were another variety of fish. It was my husband’s birthday dinner so we were offered a complimentary dessert. We opted for decaf coffee and appreciated that we were not charged for it. Overall, the dinner was a disappointing experience and hopefully an abberation given all the positive reviews submitted by other diners. If staying at the Jekyll Island Club as we were, eating at the Grand Dining Room is very convenient. But be sure to request a table along the windows toward the back of the dining room to avoid the swinging kitchen door and the waitstaff traffic.
We felt that the Sunday brunch selections did not include enough creative breakfast foods. All food was set up in a very small area near the entrance to the restaurant. The only hot breakfast food was an omelet station , and the wait line was long. This made it crowded and slow when people were trying to get their food. There was an abundance of seafood and cheese and crackers and salad items, but not a lot of other creative entrees. For the price we felt that the value was just not there. We were seated in the sunroom. While not the full Grand Dining Room experience, we did enjoy the venue.
Service was very slow. Friendly but slow. Escargot came out w 5 pieces not 6 and was slightly burnt. Salad that said to be made with beets, the beets were so microscopic we forgot they were supposed to be there. Flounder was not bad. The woman serving water and bringing lemon was very nice.
We enjoyed having brunch in the dining room. It was nice to actually dine leisurely with the noise level quiet enough to converse. The live entertainment added a pleasant touch. It has been years since our last experience with true dining and plan to be back often.
Atmosphere is always excellent. Food is outstanding, however my medium rare filet arrived medium. Service was great, but had to ask for things that should be replenished automatically( bread, water). Always a great experience at The Grand Dining Room.
While the service was excellent, the salmon I had needed a sauce to make it more tasty. My husband enjoyed the lamb chops , and they were well prepared. The decorations and cozy atmosphere in a fairly large room were welcoming and the music was relaxing. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate to make views as scenic as they were meant to be.
We wanted to find a unique dinner option to celebrate the holidays with my sister that was visiting from out of state. We have always admired the Hotel but had never dined there. So pretty with the Christmas decor. It was like stepping into an elegant movie set. Gracious service, delicious food & we also enjoyed the piano music very much!
We have never been disappointed with our dining experience here, whether it's afternoon tea, breakfast, or Sunday brunch. Today was no exception. The food was great, decor was lovely, and service was exceptional. What a great way to spend our 45th anniversary!
Great location in the Historic district. Dining room is a throwback to the late 1880's and was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Flounder entree was prepared perfectly and homemade Butternut Squash Raviolis were very tasty. Our Chocolate Mousse dessert was delivered in an dark chocolate tea cup. Devine experience and we highly recommend the Grand Dining Room.
The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is an outstanding facility full of history and beauty. The Grand Dining Room is no exception. It offers gracious fine dining with excellent service and food. From the moment you arrive till you leave, you are made to feel special. And the food is well prepared, presented and served with an outstanding choice for any taste.
The Sunday brunch is such a treat. The carving station with the roast beef was a favorite of our party. There are several salad options, a seafood table (with crab claws, steamed shrimp, smoked shrimp, salmon, and scallops, snow crab, and more), an omelet station, many vegetables, several other meat selections, and a wonderful variety of desserts. The ambiance is casual elegance and the service friendly and efficient. The room is decorated beautifully for the holidays. It is a wonderful setting for a nice family holiday meal. We enjoyed our whole experience. Tiffany was a wonderful server.
The room was decorated for Christmas and had a live piano player playing pleasant background music. Our service was efficient and friendly. My husband had the escargot and I had shrimp cocktail. Both were very good. He had the duck breast over fried brussel sprouts and cornbread (it was dry). I had the filet with asparagus and a potato gratin. Our meals were delicious. They offered us champagne for our anniversary but since my husband doesn't drink, they offered us 2 desserts. We were so full that we got one dessert so they comped our coffees. We thought the dessert was ok. I highly recommend the Jekyll Island Club's own White Zinfandel. Have a drink in the lobby bar before or after dinner. It's a nice touch. We'd definitely visit again.
I wanted a dining experience that would be SPECIAL for my out of town sisters and it was exactly what I had in mind. Though pricey, VERY GOOD. It was a great Christmas celebration. The hotel was beautifully decorated. The pianist while dining set the Christmas atmosphere
Off season visit so the dining room was very quiet; live piano music was a nice touch. The full menu was available as well as some specials. We each ordered the rack of lamb and can state it was the best dish of this we've ever had dining out. It was cooked perfectly and there was plenty of meat on each of the four chops. The sauces were outstanding! They willingly accommodated my change of starch.
Steak was not good. They forgot one our our parties meal. We were almost finished when they received theirs. Waiter was good but think kitchen messed up. Need more help at bar. One person that didn’t seem to sure of making drinks. There were a lot of people for one bartender to take care of plus the people dining. No manager ever came by our table. No one spoke to us as we left to ask how our experience was. Something changed. Usually have had great experiences. Thanks Kenny
Elegant, romantic setting with live piano music background. Seemed particularly suited for special occasions. Varied menu with a spectrum of choices that would satisfy most patrons. Enjoyed the escargot appetizer and grouper as a main course. Additional options included duck breast and short ribs amongst others. Excellent service.
Food as always was amazing. Had the server/waitress(Jamie) recommend a few items and they were exquisite. My wife had the filet and I had the duck breast and both were perfectly done, seasoned, presented. Jamie made us feel like we were the only people being served by her even though she was helping other tables. We went for our anniversary and it was everything I come to expect from the Grand Dining Room because they always set the bar so high.
Although we had reservations the line to enter the dining room was 10-15 minutes - not bad. The food was great, the service was good, the noise level was reasonable, the piano music was great, and not too loud. Most people were dressed casually, some were dressed well for the atmosphere, some were dressed simi-formally. Overall it was a very good experience. We will probably return. We were placed on a waiting list for Christmas dinner, so we hope to get a reservation. The facility was recommended to us by others who had eaten there for Thanksgiving and other occasions, and their recommendation was well placed.
We were disappointed in our dinner dining experience. I had shrimp and grits, the shrimp was tough. My husband had the pork chop dinner, also tough. Our daughter had the chicken,
which was average. For the high prices, we expected superior quality food. The restaurant was charming and the pianist was a nice tough.
We arte at the Grand Balllroom for the first time this past weekend. We had heard such amazing things that we were expecting it to be the caliber of restaurants in savannah, but It was not. The filet i ordered was very chewy and very small. They didn't give us a steak knife because you shouldn't need one for a filet, but this one did. I had to fight to cut my dinner.
For $40 we would have expected better. We had the oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer and they were amazing.
Unfortunately, they were out of the only vegetarian option on the menu & did not share that information until I ordered. I had to eat a salad as that was the only option. The Riesling wine & chocolate & coconut pot de creme were wonderful! When I made our reservation I added a special note that it was our 25th wedding anniversary but that was not mentioned or acknowledged in any way which was disappointing!
