Went for special occasion. Service was very slow from all 3 staff working our table. We were in sunroom area we requested, but I think all servers (waiter, person responsible for clearing dirty dishes & person serving rolls) forgot we were there. We really enjoy going to upscale restaurants for special occasions. Waiter even apologized for not bringing bill quicker. We don’t mind spending more on fine dining but expect to to get better service. The food was very good but because the overall experience was bad we would probably not go back.
Atmosphere is outstanding. Service was very good. All staff was very attentive. Entrees were very good, however the lobster bisque resembled baby food carrots mixed with split pea soup. Overall a very pleasant dining experience, and a special place to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We will be back again and will recommend the Grand Dining Room to our friends and family.
I was a guess at the Club. Not my first time here. I had made reservations well in advance of my arrival. Seated at the back of the resturant in the middle next to a pillar. No ambiance here. Rather loud. Hard to have a conversation. Service was great.(Shawn). My steak was cooked to order, scalloped potatoes I would not recommend. My wife had the scallops which were best she has had.
We enjoyed great food and very good service in a beautiful setting. The piano player was an added bonus!
Just the BEST
If you consider $40 expensive for a special occasion, all inclusive meal, then it's not for you. The food and service were excellent. The seafood consisted of jumbo Georgia steamed shrimp, jumbo Georgia steamed crab claws, Alaskan King Crab, and smoked shrimp/oysters/scollops - all excellent. The beef was appropriately rare and "melt in your mouth" in texture. There are too many items to list, although I did attempt (and failed) to sample all. However, I can't close without mentioning the key-lime pie - be certain to save room. Lastly let me mention the decor: this is a well preserved, but old and historic hotel - so, take some time and appreciate your surroundings.
Grand Dinning Room has been a main stay for years. Great Location, great surroundings , and great sunsets.
The pork chop was excellent.
Having worked in restaurant business my wife was taught to always seat the nicer tables first. Our hostess gave us a table near a 'service' table where plates of old food were collected. Probably the worst table in the otherwise very nicely appointed room.
The waiter did not smile once. He reminded me of the reserved (grumpy) waiters in Europe.
We had escargot & crab cake appetizers.
The escargot lacked garlic and the bread served(normally intended to soak up the yummy garlic butter) was instead hard slices of melba toast.
The crab cake was fishy and merely warm, not hot.
The entree portions were very small.
We elected to forgo dessert out of fear it too would be disappointing.
Maybe they were just having a bad night?
We ate here to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. I found the staff very friendly and atmosphere was beautiful. However, the food service was extremely slow ( took an hour to receive our dinner) and wasn't as tasty as I was expecting for the dollar. Overall, I was give it a B- based on timely kitchen service. Loved our waitress and hostess. Eating here is worth a try.
We were excited to visit and celebrate our daughter’s 13th birthday. The dining room was quaint and the pianist was entertaining. Our service was incredibly blasé, he literally threw our dessert forks on the table. Dinner was just ok, nothing special at all. I read other reviews that said portions were small but I thought they must be used to big supersized American portions. Nope, they were spot on. My husband ordered scallops, there were three. I had shrimp and grits, they were small, over cooked, and plopped over a spoonful of grits. Our daughters had filet, not bad, and salmon, boring. We had pecan pie for dessert and it was no more than a sliver sliding around on an empty plate. If the service was better, I suppose it would have been a fun experience. I would say make the trip over to Sea Island where they treat you well.
Loud children. Do not in force drrss code. Rules are rules.
The ambience is wonderful, and it was a holiday Sunday night, but the service was really off, slow, and inattentive. Apps came out 10 minutes apart for the two of us, bisque was lukewarm, entrees were more than a half hour after, and lukewarm, too. The manager apologized and offered to make it up to us.
You can't beat this place for the ambiance, a bit of traditional "class" from early 20th century. The food and wine were very good, especially the duck. We also really enjoyed the house salad - very nicely done. Good for a special night out.
Terrible food. WAY overpriced with extremely small portions. Filet over cooked, shrimp and grits bland and I am suspicious the shrimp were frozen as well. Forgot our Caesar salad. Service very unprofessional.
Always an elegant and special experience when we dine in the Grand Dining Room! The presentation and food quality of the meals are perfect! We look forward to a return visit!
Wonderful meal and great service.
We were at this restaurant for our anniversary. Staff made the event extra special and the food was great! Would recommend for any occasion.
The ambiance is great, the setting is convenient, the food choices for the Sunday buffet is excellent, the price is very fair, the wait staff is friendly, efficient, and brief. I highly recommend it.
We came here for brunch during our honeymoon and it was wonderful! The brunch is not cheap but is well worth the price for the quality and variety of food that is served. The service is friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back on our next trip to Jekyll!
An historic treasure at the Jekyll Island Club Resort
Have been going for Sunday Brunch for years and it never fails to be a wonderful and delicious experience. Has gotten expensive over the last 5 years.
It is one the most romantic dining destinations where the the service and food is impeccable.
Very attentive and kind server (Kenneth). Amazing food! Great attention to food allergies. I hope to return soon!
Captivating and romantic ambiance, great food and service ~
Enjoyed the piano music from Jerry.
Had the breakfast buffet.
We love the club. Always a fantastic experience all around. We were celebrating our five year anniversary.
Fantastic evening! Service, food, and music was perfect!
We had the buffet breakfast and it was wonderful. The service was excellent, the options of food very good and the room was fantastic. The quality and taste of the food was wonderful as well. Overall this was a very good experience!
Sunday Brunch is not the grand experience of yesteryear. While the rest of the resort maintains its traditional luster, the formal dining room has slipped significantly. The service was poor from the hostess to the buffet servers. On the whole, they seemed inexperienced and too casual in demeanor. A disappointing end to an otherwise lovely stay at the resort.
In our party of four, two of us had the duck and two the shrimp and grits. We also had the endive salad and the key lime pie
The food and service were excellent. The man at the piano was exceptional and the grand ballroom was a very nice setting.
Beautiful Architecture enhances the gracious dining experience in The Grand Dining Room at any time of day. Nice Breakfast menu and Buffet. Dinner menu includes best ever Crab Cakes, Duck Breast and Shrimp and Grits . Service is attentive and unobtrusive. Nice wine and cocktails.
We love the ambiance, service, and brunch options.
we come for brunch and spend the day on the beautiful grounds.
Overall not worth the price especially for a birthday, communication would be a key as there were conflicting views on birthday cake. Waitress was suppose to be told we had a cake we had to tell her in front of birthday guest so ruined the surprise. Vegan menu not offered when email was sent. Yet when asked to substitute on a meal said no substitutions permitted. Lobster bisque burnt taste, 3 scallops really for the price, crab cake mostly breading, opening bottles of mascote at the table, forgot knife to cut cake didn't cut cake ask birthday person to cut cake, pan seared grouper was rubbery not flakey needed knife to cut, rack of lamb edges burnt, portion size small, overall for the price of the meal it was a loss of money .
The Grand Dining Room at The Jekyll Island Club has ambiance fitting of the late 1800's. The architecture is just lovely. Unfortunately, it was a little disappointing. The service was very slow. It took over an hour to receive our entrees. We had to ask three times for rolls and butter. Found it to be a bit pricey for mediocre food. I was hoping for a better dining experience.
Food tasted great! Portions were very small for price.
Very historic location.
Have eaten here several times. Food and service always excellent. This specific occasion was somewhat spoiled by a VERY loud cocktail party at the front of the dining room during the first half of our dinner.
A lovely location! Always a treat to have Sunday Brunch at Jekyll Island Club. Food is consistently good but could use a little more spark in terms of presentation. Coffee is very good and you can't beat the scenery when you are walking off your meal.
