Over priced - chowder was cold and lacking in all aspects. Oysters were over priced for what was served. Don't go here - it is a touristy rip off.

It was OK. The food is *extremely* fresh to a point that, for someone from a non-coastal area, it wasn't a great experience. It tastes almost as if it was brought it from an ocean 10 feet away.

I've been coming here for 30+ years although not recently. I had Manhattan Clam Chowder which was uninteresting and no better than a can. I had a seafood pasta special that was ordinary at best. My companion had oysters which she said were excellent. Service was poor. Beyond inattentive. I know the space is historic, but it really could use to be refreshed.

Part of the great experience we had was the architecture of Grand Central, made for a great ambiance. The service was great, we picked two of the oysters we knew we would like and had the servers pick the rest. We ended up getting three dozen of various oysters all picked by the staff! Can’t wait for the next opportunity to visit this gem!

For a seafood restaurant, the seafood should be much better. We both had the bouillabaise - the lobster and all the other shellfish and fish in the soup wee overdone and rubbery. C'mon oyster bar - you can do better than that!
The service was wonderful - why not make the food good too?

This is an old favorite of mine going back decades, and it continues to be. An unmatched selection of oysters, plus seafood prepared as it should be. Service attentive, quick and efficient. It’s a popular spot but knows how to handle it.

I arrived for an early dinner. The hostess wasn't particularly friendly and said they might have availability eventually. I went on to OpenTable and booked a reservation for 15 mins later. She places me and my friend next to a freezing vent, I mean blasting cold air. I asked if there was any other place to sit (there were empty sections everywhere) she said she could seat us in 20 minutes. We decided to go across the restaurant and sit at the self-seating bar. No problem, we just wanted to eat and catch up. We got our glasses of water. I drank mine and almost sliced my lip open. The entire side of the lip of the glass was broken and sharp. The waitress was mortified, she was perfectly nice. The food that came (clam chowder, calamari and a whole fish) were, to be honest, mediocre. The clam chowder was fine but the calamari was really greasy and the whole fish was pretty greasy and boring in flavor. Overall this seems like a tourist trap. I am not a tourist at all but we just needed a place to eat near Grand Central. I do not recommend this restaurant for any occasion. It's crazy expensive and the food isn't that great, the atmosphere is the best thing it has going for it. Don't eat here, do yourself a favor.

The Oyster Bar is a classic. Incredible original decor, oysters —on the half shell, broiled, stewed and roasted. We had the local (eastern) swordfish special. I would have preferred one thicker cut rather than two thin cuts steaks but the fish was fine. Abominably arrogant service but I have a very thick skin and do not intimidate easily. Definitely a go to, especially if for some reason you are in Midtown or traveling to or from Grand Central —and if you haven't been to Grand Central, go and then eat at the Ouster Bar. A classic New York duo.

We went with friends that had two small children, 2 and 4 years old. We called ahead to make sure they had a kids menu, and they said yes, we have chicken fingers and fries. Once we got there and were seated, we waited at least 25 minutes for anyone to come to our table and bring us waters. They then told us they were "out of chicken", and fries... and out of fish and chips (it was 5:30 pm). What NYC restaurant runs out of chicken???

So the only option for the kids was a steak that was $34. They wouldn't give any price break for the parents, or try to come up with something simple for the kids. Ended up getting a bowl of buttered pasta for them that was $17 and DROWNING in butter. We asked to speak to the manager, and they were not helpful or apologetic at all, have been there many times and love the place, our adult seafood was great- but the service for our friends with family was such trash! Really embarrassed to have brought them there and getting charged so much for such bad service.

The taste of the food was great, but we had to wait a long time for our food to come. After a long wait, our food came cold. The restaurant wasn’t that crowded to justify them taking so long to bring our food. I think with the same amount of money you waste here, you can find a much nicer restaurant.

Reservation at 4pm, restaurant was not full. Service was so slow. Multiple things on the menu were not available, including Skate, Fish and Chips, Tequila and Lagunitas IPA. Incredible that a restaurant that prints a daily menu could be out of major items at 4pm on a Saturday.
Server didn’t offer much of an apology.
Water glasses were infrequently refilled. We literally had to hunt down a server for this to happen.
Will not recommend this restaurant to friends and family. Very disappointing experience. First and last visit.

Worth the experience, waiter was unfriendly and not attentive, his support staff was, so that helped. Food was excellent. Dinning space is impressive but is not maintained to the level its reputation deserves. Glad we went but unlikely we return with so many other options.

It had been somewhere in between five and seven years since my last trip to the Grand Central Oyster Bar. The last time I "saw" it was actually while watching The OA on Netflix. It had been filmed well and looked beautiful. I recalled ice cold oysters, a noisy hub of people, and beautiful vaunted ceilings.

I traveled with the lady friend for her first ever NYC trip this past weekend, and we almost always try to avoid tourist traps (especially restaurant-wise), but I thought a quick bite at the Oyster Bar would be a nice way to see Grand Central. I was wrong, and I would advise any other travelers to avoid this now run-down trap.

The decor is starting to look super dated. The floors are not clean. Aside from the cool ceilings, it's not much to look at. The service was atrocious. We had at least four different servers trying to help us, none of whom could bother to check on us more than once every 15 minutes or so. A glass of red wine had the most unusual and unappetizing twig-like sediment in it that I'd ever seen. No apology was offered and the wine remained on our final bill.

The food, at least, was decent. Oysters were great, although shucked poorly with lots of shell to be wary of. Fries were good, but that's hard to mess up. New England clam chowder was also okay, although could've been hotter.

If you MUST go, request to be seated at the bar, the counters, or the saloon. DON'T let them seat you in the main dining room.

Really though, just don't go. I was embarrassed that I had taken the girlfriend here under the thought that it was a cool place to check out. It was the worst meal we had and the most disappointing portion of our long weekend.

The restaurant was very noisy but with no atmosphere. Our meal was very rushed our main course arrived just as we finished our starter. We went there for a night out but the whole meal only took around forty five minutes. The food we had was very average so we thought it was over priced. We feel the restaurant is living on its past reputation.

Went here with my wife on a Friday for a late lunch. Waiter was in the weeds and would not even acknowledge us. Only person who helped was the food runner. Had the seafood boulabase which had over cooked rubbery lobster. I shared my dissatisfaction with the manager and his reply was, and I quote “pffff”. Not what I would expect from a restaurant manager. Oysters were good we had a few different varieties. Other than that this place is nothing more than a tourist trap. Average food at best with horrible service and over priced wine list.

I always enjoy going to the Grand Central Oyster Bar as a treat. This is a fun, old-time New York place, and I especially find it a treat at the holidays. The food is consistently good. However, I was disappointed with the service. The food took a while to come (which was okay because we weren't in a rush, but would-be diners should take note nonetheless), and more seriously, our server got various aspects of our order wrong. There were only two people in our party, so this really was not acceptable. It was the holidays and I didn't want to get involved in an unpleasant situation, so I didn't push the matter further, but a restaurant of this fame should not have mediocre service.

Great selection of oysters to choose from, even Oysters Rockefeller is available as an appetizer. Ine of the specials I had was the big eye tuna salad which was a Greek style salad that was the best Greek salad I ever tasted. No red onions (even though sometimes I like them). Great atmosphere and ideal for a business lunch. Best time to come is just after they open.

Food is good, prices are average/to be expected. Service is slow/nonexistent. I get that it’s mad busy, but the service is really lacking, both in demeanour and frequency. It’s loud and the tables are closed together, I could hear and could have particulates in both tables beside us conversation without any stretch. It’s a decent place and they have a wide oyster selection, but tbh, it’s a little overrated and very overwhelming.
