Great place for oysters, clams or the Mixed Panroast. Otherwise, the other food is fair. Service is very slow and spotty. Not good for a business lunch due to slowness in service.

Our meal as usual was excellent. But this time I found the noise level inside the restaurant was overwhelming. That seriously detracted from the quality of the lunch

I make it a point to eat at GCOB whenever I make it into the city. The oyster selection is terrific and does not get boring as with so many other so called oyster bars.
The entries are also fit for foodies.
The values for your dollars is also top shelf.

Service wasn't great on this night, but this is a great restaurant. Get there before 730 on any night for freshest seafood selection and you'll be rewarded / that is my experience ... i wont go after 8 again ........

In 40 years we have never been to the famous Oyster bar at Grand Central. The food is good, (Menu too large to think about!) but Grand central and the Restaurant are so amazingly beautiful, you feel like you are back in old New York when architecture was everything. Going through Grand Central makes you feel indeed Grand, and the Oyster Bar Restaurant was originally built into the terminal. All the other food spots are out in the lower terminal and modern fast food, but the Oyster Bar remains old New York classy without being snotty. We loved it. And would go back for an occasion. too pricey for everyday (at least for us, maybe not the billionaires who just got a tax cut)

Probably the worst food I have eaten in New York. The grilled fish was not grilled but drowned butter and oil. The presentation was poor with dirty plates and even the classic “finger in the soup”. We paid and left - never to return.

Great and consistently high quality food
Try the smoked trout some time. Extremely good here and a real delicacy and not offered my most restaurants (if any other)

Not fancy... just great seafood... that’s what it’s all about. You pay for the quality, but it is money well spent. Amazing selection of fresh fish!

El producto no es malo, pero su preparación (al menos en el caso del marisco) no es la mejor. Pedimos un bogavante a la plancha y parecía cocido. No tenía mucho sabor. Aun así, el restaurante está bien, el ambiente del lugar es agradable, la carta muy amplia y las ostras están muy buenas. El servicio muy atento.

I very seldom write review; but this was so bad I have to let it out:
Didn't feel Welcomed, Maitre D was rude when we arrived. One person in our party was running 10 minutes late and the maitre D didn't want to seat us until we were all here. I told him that we would order drinks and he still wouldn't seat us. Once seated we waited at least 20-25 minutes for our drinks; so I don't see why he couldn't seat us when we arrived.
DO Not order the Bouillabaisse if you want authentic food, the worst I ever had...didn't even finish the dish. My son dish (some kind of shrimp soup dish) was no better.
If you must go .....just order cold seafood, it's hard to screw that up. Definitely would not recommend and would never go back.

Love those Washington State oysters, and they have them in spades.

The noise level is high, so ask for the Saloon space which is less dramatic but more manageable.

Service is a bit brusk, but efficient.

Had a reservation but there wasn’t much of a wait on a Thur night. The place is HUGE and packed! Service was so quick and friendly we never wanted for anything-even helped with order selections. It’s very lively and exciting-we has conversations with the table next to us! Add to it the food was so fresh and delicious and the walk around Grand Central Station helped us walk off how full we were from so many oysters cooked so many ways!

Been coming to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central for 35 years. I’m a big fan so let’s hope my experience yesterday was a one off. That said, it was my worst in 35 years. Why: the fried clam app which is Devine was more than slightly burnt and dry. The crab cake which also is one of the best in NY was dry and not fresh.

Wow what an enjoyable way to end your holiday. We booked in advance to get a table here & was definitely worth doing. The food was just perfect.
The food was really delicious & presented really well. The atmosphere was nice this place when busy can be quite noisy due to the fact of how big the restaurant is & that it’s situated in grand central station.
I would really recommend this restaurant if your a lover of fish.

Went to the Oyster Bar to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday - party of five. The table was waiting, nicely positioned on the center of the back wall with great views out towards the entire dining room with its vaulted ceilings. Wait service was courteous and attentive without being intrusive. Overall, the food was excellent. My son had the shrimp stew which looked a little wimpy - lots of creamy broth but not a lot else. All other entrees and dessert was fantastic. Would definitely go again for an occasion - it is a little pricey for me for casual dining.

Loved the service and the two dozen mixed oysters we ate. Bit surprised by it not being as “classy” as we had imagined. But then again, it is in a railway station! And what a railway station, the location is absolutely stunning.

Service was great - knowledgeable and attentive. Oysters, clam chowder, broiled fish, fried clam bellies all very good. Waffle fries blah - skip those. It was quite hot there on an unseasonably warm nov 1 but the space is so wonderful...

The Oyster Bar is a New York treasure. Besides its atmosphere and the very gracious and professional staff, it is some of the best seafood you will eat anywhere. The cold pouched greenlip New Zealand mussels with dijon sauce and the Oyster pan roast are not to be missed -- ever.

The elegance of the architecture jars with the family-style tables--oddly, though we love Maine eateries, given the prices we wish this place was more elegant. Still, the sound level is horrific, and the food can be mixed in quality, though the oyster selection is amazing.

The Oyster Bar has reliably good food. The Oysters Rockefeller were delicious, though a bit gritty. My salmon salad had plenty of poached salmon, but was a little slim on greens for my liking. (The beets and hearts of palm were nice touches.) The flourless white chocolate cake was delicious, light as a cloud and pleasantly tasting of vanilla bean. Service is hit or miss here in my experience, but our waiter was attentive and polite. Noise is part of the experience here, although we were seated in an alcove when we asked for a quieter spot. We enjoyed our meal and never felt rushed.

We were two Brits over in Manhattan for a week and lunch here was a must do. We weren't disappointed as the food was excellent and the whole ambience superb. One minor critique is that we appeared to be on the express train rather than the local as each course appeared so swiftly. Still loved it though.

This dinner was part of a birthday surprise trip to NY for my wife.
I arranged for an old friend of hers to meet us at the Grand Central Oyster Bar as a surprise also.
In the end it was perfect, the location, the mix of fresh oysters and the delicious pasta that followed.
If you've never seen the Grand Central Station before then I would recommend a visit even if your not taking a train, it's an amazing building and the oyster bar is the perfect place to end your visit...
