Grand Central Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
Waiter was very rude. Waited 45 minutes for half a dozen oysters and he then said ‘oysters take long sorry’. None of the oysters were cut out their shells and all tasted bland. Also had the bouche de Noel chocolate desert. Didn’t taste like anything and meringues tasted like chalk. Not worth 50+ dollars. Never feel the need to come back here and eat.
This famous NYC restaurant is full daily for lunch. The decor and location are unique. Located off of a hallway in Grand Central Station there is nothing like this place. The seafood is fresh. Clam chowder is a must. The counter seating makes this a good spot if you are dining alone. If the large restaurant is too overwhelming ask for a table in the bar. Enjoy!
We have dined at the GC Oyster Bar on many occasions. This most recent visit was a bit disappointing. Our waiter seemed distracted, and in fact mixed up our drink order with another table. There was a longer than usual wait for oysters and although the oysters were wonderful, the "seared" tuna I ordered had absolutely no sear and very little flavor. I'm no chef, but I certainly know the difference between baked, broiled and seared! Restaurants can certainly be hit or miss, and that said, this one missed this time.
This classic only gets better. We were there for oysters and were not disappointed. Large selection of East Coast oysters with a variety of sizes, amount of brine, etc. We chose Malpaque, Well Fleet, Pemaquid, and IslandvCreek. Divine. Cannot wait to return.
Horrid experience. Absurdly long wait for a server to take our order. Food was average at best and overpriced. Left half of my entree uneaten and didn't stay for dessert. Have been to the restaurant many times and this will be my last visit. It's become a real tourists trap. With the number of other seafood options within walking distance from GCT, I advise to avoid this establishment like the plague.
Very disappointing. Food was mediocre and poorly presented. Tables were too close together and it was very noisy. Service was slow and sides arrived over 10 months minutes before main courses. I feel this restaurant is now just a tourist trap and they certainly are not trying for repeat custom.
This is a tourist trap - and they know it!
We waited 1hr10mins for oysters and a further 20mins for mains. Oysters not as we ordered and mains bland and disgusting.
Cold, greasy fried seafood is unacceptable in a seafood restaurant. No garnish, just basic dish on the middle of the plate.
Add a disinterested, nonchalant waiter and it is a recipe for disaster. Disgusting food, lousy
Service - do NOT dine here.
Poor service. Waiter never returned to our table after taking order. Fried oysters ordinary and small portion. Monk fish and black sable ordinary. Sable was supposedly pan seared but really lightly fried and soggy as if previously frozen. The roll was good but butter too cold and couldn’t spread on roll.
If the restaurant food was excellent and the service just average I would return. But based upon the poor service ordinary to poor quality of food and preparation, the cost of the meal and the noise level so deafening you could not talk with your table mates, we will not be returning.
Enchanting place! We met here for drinks and apps before the train. It was pretty busy at rush hour on a Friday but the bartender was on top of things. We got our drinks and food quickly and even got to sit when some bar stools opened up. Charming ambiance. Lots of folks meeting for a drink. Fun place!
