The food was ok, but there were out of several oysters listed on the menu.
The service was slow
This is expensive for what you get.
We went on a Sunday evening, looking forward to a seafood/fish. There was an interesting assortment of oysters, which were fresh, but more expensive than any other seafood restaurant I've recently been to--including in Boston, Charlottesville, Virginia, midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn. In an almost-empty restaurant, it mysteriously took almost 15 minutes for six oysters to arrive after the waiter took our order. We both had soft shell crabs battered and fried, at a season when soft shell crabs are fresh and abundant. The crabs were almost inedible -- dried out (probably old) so much that the ratio of batter to crab was 3 to 1. The batter was awful -- kind of like the fried dough you get at a street festival. The wine was poor. Our waiter and the service he provided was as bad as the food. He couldn't answer questions about the various kinds of oysters, although he pretended to. He was slow, even including an almost 10-minute wait for the check after we asked for it, despite the fact that only two other tables in the very large room had customers. Bottom line: Avoid this restaurant -- unless you want just oysters and don't mind overpaying for them.
Great food .. Great service.. Food was very tasty
Fresh delicious oysters. Great cocktails. The bartender knew how to make a drink. We had martinis, cocktails, and bloody Marys, -all really amazing. No misses. Same for the oysters. Fresh, and perfectly presented. As for some of the other stuff, coconut shrimp and lobster roll, good, not amazing. But if you like booze and oysters, this is the joint. -Excellent service all around.
We had a noon brunch reservation for Mother's Day. I was surprised that the place was basically empty. There was a special menu but most of the typical brunch entrees were reasonably priced. We started with a few oysters.. They gave me a free Mimosa to celebrate the day. The kids had a stuffed french toast that they enjoyed and my husband a lobster scramble and I had a crab Florentine omelette. Everything tasted good. Both of our egg dishes came with toast -- but it was more like large croutons -- not at all edible. There wasn't too much ambience because it was so empty ... that was disappointing.
This place is big and they don't have the tables close so you have nice room to enjoy your meal. The staff is very nice and don't push anything on you. You can also take your time you are not rushed. The food is so fresh . It comes to you hot, looks great and taste better. The meal is timed so you have something and there is time before your next meal comes out. Cant wait to go back.
Took my wife and her son (a New Yorker) in for their first visit (my third) and they went out of their minds over the variety of raw oysters and the size. They are talking about a dozen each for our next trip to the city. Nothing like it in Charlotte!
Amazing service in a classy, elegant setting. Families feel welcome and family members can try new options, or rely on old favorites. The 25 cent oysters on the children's menu allowed our daughter to sample two and it made a great story for her aunt and uncle who had treated us to Open Table! The variety of oysters and sauces proved a favorite for everyone! Our server offered accurate descriptions of each kind of oyster, so we really enjoyed choosing our selection.
My husband and I had a fine meal here recently. The raw oysters and clams were yummy and our entrees were good. We also had a fine Key Lime Cheesecake-like dessert. Our biggest complaint is the cavernous space. It is so big and seems empty even when its not. The bar area is lively but the rest of the place is too big.
Great Restaurant , tasty food , this place really has ambience
I did enjoy my shrimp dish but the restaurant needs to have more gluten-free choices as my friend is gluten free. The chocolate mousse was dense, but delicious and large enough for two people to share. My dining companions enjoyed what they had.
We wanted oysters for Valentine's, so we came here. There were a number of choices, but we picked three. Fresh and very good. The bubbly selection was ok, and the chocolate dessert was amazing. Nice experience.
This restaurant is at its best with its raw offerings. I found cooked food to be hit and miss and often prepared in a desultory manner manner. Hot appetizers and entrees were tepid and some tasted as if they were badly warmed over in a microwave oven. French fries were limp and undercooked and with little or no seasoning.
This restaurant seriously needs to get its kitchen together. Service was well meaning but the server seemed overwhelmed by his job.
A lot of work to do here.
Each time we go here, we like it better. The staff couldn't be nicer, and they really know their oysters! The only thing the place needs is more customers. We want it to succeed and thrive in our neighborhood.
Amazing oysters. Server very helpful explaining the multiple options. Went 8:00 on a Sunday evening and almost empty
On a recent Saturday night wanted to take out of towners to get some Atlantic fish to eat.
To s art we had delicious calamari, mediocre mussels and ok crab cakes
As entree there was a perfect seared Tuna, so-so scallops and not so fresh flounder.
The place is huge and a little cold if not crowded The service was A+ attentive helpful pleasant
We didnt sample their oysters and they seemed very varied and fresh (obso only !)
Good place but not sensational
I had my birthday dinner at Grand Central Oyster Bar in Brooklyn, and it was great. The food, especially the oysters, were excellent. The lobster pan roast, which was something I'd never heard of, was also excellent. I recommend it if you like good, fresh seafood.
This restaurant was practically empty on a Saturday night at 9:00. I found that curious until after I had dinner. The oysters were good but the rest of the meal was not. I had a saffron rice side that was dry, tasteless and seemed liked it had been cooked earlier in the day. The fish that I ate also needed more seasoning and flavor. The wait staff seemed to be off their game and not that able to be attentive. The floorboards are loose and the noise of the people walking back and forth was annoying. I would not come back again. This is my second and last visit to this restaurant. I do not know how they stay in business!
Food, wait staff, comfort level once we moved to smaller room all great. Unfortunately there was a group of 6 middle aged and older people who screamed so loud in the Main dining room we had to move into a smaller one. Even then we're could still hear these Lunatics. Too bad management couldn't ask them to leave!
The Grand Central Oyster Bar Brooklyn lives up to its name--it holds true to the classic dishes one can expect at the Grand Central location, while offering up new and exciting dishes that cannot be found anywhere else. Our server was extremely professional and helpful in creating a memorable dining experience.
Oysters were great. Other food, meh. Staff, lovely. Ambience, kind of characterless. Nice bar.
Few places can match the grandeur and the vaults of Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal, but if it's the Oyster Bar's fresh seafood that you desire this offspring in Brooklyn is on the same level. A wonderful variety of fresh oysters and perfectly cooked lobster highlighted our dinner. Nathaniel's attentive service elevated our little birthday party into a delightful event.
The oysters are good, but based on the other five dishes we sampled, the rest is pretty average. The staff were great. The background music was terrible. It's a shame, I want to like this place more. But I'd go back for the oysters - they have a good value happy hour.
(As well as oysters we had seared tuna, gazpacho, salmon salad, mussels and asparagus).
I have always been a huge fan of the original in Grand Central Station so I have been looking forward to trying the Brooklyn branch. And I was not disappointed. We ate in the main dining room which is quite lovely with large tables that are nicely spaced. The service is spot on and quick. I really enjoyed my meal as did my friend. He of course loved the oysters for his starter and I thought the fried calamari was everything it should be. I hadn't had swordfish for a while and it was a good choice! Served with olives and capers and over cous cous with sundried tomatoes and oregano simply delicious! I was very full but it was my birthday so I had to try the deconstructed cheese cake bananas foster. I was happy/sorry that I did!! So delicious and yet try as I might I could not convince myself it was calorie free! I highly recommend it. A dinner for two or with a group of friend I sure everyone will please. My only slightly negative comment and it's minor is that the place is too big! Three dining rooms. That is simply too much restaurant for Park Slope. I think with the bar area and the main dining room they would have everything covered. But seriously that is just my call on that and has nothing to do with my dining experience.
The worst food experience I've had in NYC
I think this restaurant could be a good addition to the neighborhood. I was a little disappointed with the service. My friend and I ordered the All you can eat Paella special. We were very excited. WHen we received our plates it was a bowl of rice with 2 clams, 2 mussels and 2 shrimp. We didnt want to fill up on rice so when the waiter came to pick up our plates we requested more seafood over the rice. The waiter told us this was not how they did things and it was a one- time thing. Again, there was 2 clams, 2 mussels and 2 shrimp for each of us. When he came back he took our plates, and did not ask us if we wanted more. WHen he walked by our table about 10 minutes later, we told him we wanted anothe plate. He looked exasperated. It was an uncomfortable situation where we were made to feel bad. I was a bit disappointed. I am unsure I would return to this location for a meal.
Ok, granted that we came in at the tail end of brunch (230pm) on a Saturday, but our server was just a downer. He forgot our orders, he served cold food, we had to repeatedly ask for things - sugar, straws, etc. the food and the ambience were ok, but if you decide to go, just try to get a good server.
This restaurant is beautifully decorated all the way down to its wait staff. My fiancé and I stopped by because we wanted some oysters and did a search for a restaurant. The place is beautiful. However, it was nearly empty, with a few sprinkled customer throughout. The service was great. The food seemed over priced for the quality.
It was our second time there. As the first time food was very good and as well as the first time the service was lacking. No attention, we had to call the waiter over (if we could find him) when we wanted something. Both times it was not very busy so being more attentive should have been easy
The wine we ordered was a 2010, and we were given a 2012 ok maybe not a big deal because their wine selection is limited but he should have told us and given us an option.
Overall I would expect much better service .
I may recommend this restaurant for their food I would not for the service as I feel they lack experience ( no rudeness just not attentive)
Arctic char was delicious. Service good. Restaurant is very relaxing. We'll be back.
We went for brunch and all the seafood was great. Raw oysters, fried clams, fried oyster omelette, all great. The rest of the food was average and the biscuits were dry and dense.
All for of us very much enjoyed our choices. The New England Clam Chowder was outstanding. My husband enjoyed his raw clams and oysters very much. I split a large lobster with my friend and it was s sweet and tender. Prices are steep, however.
Drinks were great. Oysters were excellent. Staff was great. Restaurant design was cool. Entrees were terrible. Go for drinks and oysters then go somewhere else for entrees.
My fiance and I have been here many times since last year. I have to say this place by far is on my top seafood eatery's to be at. The food is great. Various in season oysters which are great and wines are at a decent price considering the area.
excellent service, warm, best lobster roll, relaxing fun dining
the oysters and my lobster roll were amazing, the waitress was great and very accommodating...my only complaint would be the music was a little loud. Maybe I'm just old :)
5pm reservation gets a quiet place with attentive service and good recommendations with no noise. Excellent fresh oysters.
Wonderful staff-attentive and friendly. Got the Shellfish sampler and it was really fresh and was a good portion size. Bar service was really good.
Always tasty food especially the lobster roll. Service is accommodating and warm.
Very relaxing atmosphere, great selection of oysters. Quiet evening when we were there, but lovely background music for good dinner conversation.
