Small hideaway on Tompkins Street in downtown Brooklyn. Some of the freshest oysters, shrimp and crab available presented by pros juggling a busy room. Come for a glass of wine at the bar and stay for a seafood feast. Bring friends for an easy night out or eat alone in comfortable splendor.

Loved it! They no longer do an official "brunch" anymore (short-lived and they open at 2 now, not 12!) but still have the towers that were made famous by the various articles written about them. We had the smaller of the 2 towers as well as the deviled eggs, octopus and mussels (I over-ordered for 3 of us, but everything was delicious!). I wanted to like the interesting mignonettes that came with the oysters, but alas, I ended up having to stick to the classic. Points for creativity though, and I think the dropper is an excellent idea, plus reduces waste!

I've been to Grand Army on two occasions and both times thoroughly enjoyed my experiences. The interior is small but very well planned and stylish. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a date. The plates are modestly sized and meant to be shared, so don't expect big full sized dinner dishes. We ordered muscles, scallops, a bread plate, 1/2 dozen oysters and were very happy. The muscles, scallops and bread were fantastic! The cocktails are excellent. I'd probably pass on the oysters at full price (they do have a $1 happy hour which we missed) - there are better places for oysters. The waitstaff were nice and attentive. Overall, a pleasant experience and would happily return.

Amazing service. It was pretty crowded when we arrived and the hostess sat us initially in a high traffic area. We didn't mind it, but she offered us a table in the back where it was quieter shortly after seating us. Great cocktails and great oysters. Made for an awesome first date.

My girlfriend was visiting from Ireland and we both love seafood so had to try Grand Army. Had a reservation for 8pm but found ourselves there early. Still got a table, and the manager reassured us that early is good! Our server was polite, knew everything on the menu backwards, and gave us the perfect amount of attention. To start we had a dozen oysters, served with home made tinctures (the pastrami!!!!) and a portion of devilled eggs which were deliciously seasoned. The oysters were some of the freshest I've had in Brooklyn, well sized and reasonably priced. For our mains we shared the mussels and the grilled octopus. Both were perfect! The octopus was tender, and the mussels were huge and full of flavour! Our drinks were a perfect accompaniment to our dishes, refreshing and light. It was a perfect evening, and I can't wait to return in the future!

I took a group of ladies here for a fun work happy hour with appetizers and it was perfect! We had the bread and butter, oysters, deviled eggs, charcuterie and mushrooms, all were great. Nice happy hour specials with $1 oysters and a dollar off all wine and beer. I would come back for a date for two at the bar or a cozy dinner for 4-5. The real fireplace made the place smell good and added to the wintry ambiance.

Well wanted to try this place for a while. It's lively abd fun snd cocktails are amazing. Beware of ordering oysters, the bills becomes very high very quickly! 4.50$ and oyster and 7 $ for bread, tgat makes it more expensive than top restos in Manhattan

Make no bones about it. This is a bar with small bites available; not a restaurant with a good bar. The craft cocktails are very good, and change often. The bartenders are creative, and friendly, although from 5 to 7 when dollar oysters are available, the place is crowded, and noisy. The staff is pleasant, the nibbles are tasty, and the bar has that great neighborhood feeling that one wants in a local hangout.

This is a great place to share tastes and just order everything. I think the two of us got about six dishes + a dozen oysters. Service was very knowledgeable, attentive, and had great recommendations on a busy Tuesday evening. Would like to go back in the winter when the fireplace is going.

This is a place that looks so great on paper, feels so great when you walk in... And everything after that disappoints. The drinks were fine, but they are served in small cups that are filled to the brim with crushed ice. Not only does that mean the ice melts faster, it also means you get about 3 sips for $13. But the food is where we were really disappointed. Dishes are really small yet priced like low end entree prices or expensive appetizer prices. And most were nothing special. The oysters and and the liver were very good. The tomatoes, mussels and crab cake were very mediocre. Putting together a full meal out of a very limited selection of small plates is really challenging. We spent about $80/person and left hungry.

This restaurant did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and delicious. Get the bread and butter - save time and order two! Perfect portions for sharing. The menu is small - which usually means everything is good. I'll be back to try the rest sooner than later. Vibe is great, too. Drinks are on the pricey side but we did have some nice wine.

I know I just stated that I would recommend this to a friend, but only as a cocktail establishment. The interior is homey and warm. I love it. The bartenders have always been cheerful. I was not greeted at the door and had to track down a staff member to accept the reservation. No big deal, but then why take reservations? The food is beyond over-priced. I have no problem paying exceptional margins for food or experience but when your $13 shrimp cocktail for 4 shrimp becomes $13 for 4 medium size pick and peel shrimp, I'm baffled. I also have no problem paying for bread and good compound butter, but I got a hunk of dry/stale miche for $6. The oysters were plated beautifully. The deviled eggs were good and plentiful at 6 halves but it still does not satisfy at $9. I think the kicker is that it's fine for bar snacks, but when you part with $80 a head and are still truly hungry, I really don't understand the point in taking reservations.

I loved this place as soon as I entered. The $1 oyster happy hour was great. Oyster sauce and vinaigrettes are served in droppers, which was convenient. The oysters were tasty. A cool feature of this place is that the raw seafood sits in an ice bath that sprawls along the bar so you can see what it is you're actually eating. Cocktails are amazing. I had the Boss' Cabinet, which is a cocktail that changes daily.

Good neighborhood place, but one expects more from the same team that runs Rucola. Food offerings are pricey for the portions; and four (surprisingly unpeeled) shrimp is slim for a main dish. Service was a bit disinterested too. Small glasses instead of pints for beer and pricey wine-by-the-glass are negatives. Good music and good vibe; so a few improvements could go a long way to making this a regular go to place.
