Gran Gusto Ratings and Reviews
The owner himself came to the table and greeted us. All of the servers were kind and attentive. The noise level was a little high for my taste - lots of glass, stone and hardwood in a room with high ceilings means lots of sound reflection. But the sound was of happy dining conversations, and the room is lovely,
Even with a reservation we waited for 45 mins in the back of the restaurant of what it seemed to be the building's lobby. It would have been nice to be asked if we would like a drink while waiting.
When seated, they were out of bread and out of the wine we ordered.
Customer service was mediocre/poor. I am Italian (Rome) and I have to say that the food was mediocre as well.
We have been there ~ 4 times since we found it ~ 5 months ago. Never failed to be 4 or 5 on 5 point scale. It seems a bit rustic, there are a few open tables, and it is relatively quiet - not like Guilia's and with at least equal food with higher plate-to plate variety.
We had a wonderful meal! There were so many great things to choose from that we decided to share a bunch. Appetizer special of figs stuffed with goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto served over arugula with balsamic glaze - out of this world delicious! Pizza with roasted eggplant was amazing - light crispy crust. Gran Gusto special pasta was delicious. Favorite was the Short Rib pasta - can't wait to go back again for more! All staff was warm and welcoming and very attentive. You can't go wrong with this place!
Fantastic food, the most authentic Italian outside the North End, as far as I know. The grilled calamari is killer. All the homemade pasta is top notch. They even made up a seafood risotto for me during lunch, when there isn't risotto on the menu. Give them a try, including their excellent margherita pizza and fresh salads.
We've been coming here since the very beginning and were delighted to see how much more appealing the decor is since we first came. More comfortable chairs, more appealing dining rooms. The food was excellent as always. My fettuccine with lamb ragu was very good. By the time we left, both dining areas were full! Everything makes for a very pleasant evening.
Food was great, as usual. Service, however, was awful. We had to ask the server three times for balsamic vinegar. And it took forever to get our food, even though the restaurant was practically empty. I've been dining here for a while now and it's unfortunate to see the decline in service quality.
This was a pleasant surprise. The location is a bit off the beaten track but that is part of its allure. The service was fine, the food very good and best of all the noise level was low enough that you could actually hear one another talk. Parking was not a problem either.
Our experience at Gran Gusto was underwhelming. My caprese salad had anemic tomatoes, at a time of the year when good, red, juicy tomatoes are in great abundance (early September) and was lacking fresh basil, instead using pesto that had little flavor. The best part of their pasta is that it is handmade at the restaurant, and is delicious. But the "sauce" on my ravioli employed tasteless cherry tomatoes, as well as some eggplant, which existed entirely independent of each other. My dining partner enjoyed the smoked salmon carpaccio appetizer.
The restaurant was very busy, but the service was fine and very friendly.
The food at Gran Guesto was simply put - delicious. The look and feel of the restaurant is like a comfortable dining room at your family's home. We had the Margaretta pizza and it was so wonderful - followed by the most tender pasta with seafood cooked to perfection. We will defiantly be going back. It may be our new weekly place to go.
I had dinner with 3 friends at Gran Gusto, and the food was delicious. In addition, the restaurant has a nice ambiance and is a little off the beaten path so therefore not too crowded. The only point of critique I have is that the service could have been a bit better. Our empty glasses (for water as well as wine/beer) often went unnoticed and the service was quite slow in general. Other than that, we had a good dining experience.
I have dined at GranGusto many times and the food is always good and authentic.
Their pastas and pizzas are superlative and their gluten free options are simply fantastic.
My only problem is with their service, which is generally slow and not very functional.
This last time I had a problem with my reservation. When we got to the restaurant, the man at the entrance told us that there wasn't any reservation under my name. When I protested and said that I did reserve through OpenTable, he did not even bother to double-check and quickly blamed the whole thing on OT. Since it was quite early, the restaurant still had some availability, and we got seated, but that attitude didn't make me happy.
At any rate: the food is very good and it is definitely worth the risk of receiving a not ideal service.
Four of us dined early on a Tuesday and found the restaurant very quiet with few other diners so we were able to converse comfortably. One of our party is 91 so noise level very important.
Location in quiet neighborhood is very nice.
The food was very good traditional Italian with some unusual dishes such as a potato encrusted sea bream which was delicious. It was served with simple spinach all olio agro which is how one would find it in Italia. Delightful. The salad was a little lacklustre: slices of parmesan cheese on top were rubber and uninteresting.
But overall we enjoyed our meal thoroughly and will come back again.
