My wife and I had a fabulous meal on a recommendation from friends. We were in from the SF Bay Area and our meal was as fine as any we've had at home and close to the meals we experienced in Italy. The arugula salad was beautiful partly because the quality of the olive oil is top notch. The balance of acid and flavors was perfect. The calamari was delicious and cooked until tender, not rubbery. My wife had ravioli which was light and beautifully balanced. My chicken was luscious and the spinach was heavenly in the seasoning and texture. We had little room for dessert but had the contorni with coffee and it was a perfect ending to a fabulous meal. The service was attentive and unhurried which allowed us to spend two happy hours enjoying our meal. We felt the prices were extremely reasonable and would gladly return the next time we are in the area.
Excellent and authentic food . Favorite spot. Usually excellent, friendly service except there was a wedding party there and service was rather slow this night.
The food was totally serviceable, but overpriced for the quality.
Ummmmmm... they had difficulty find my reservation so the waiter arranged us to seat outside where there were two flies eating the meal with us the whole time. But the dishes were good and the waitress were nice.
we were 6 people, had pizza which was great! authentic Neapolitan pizza, my favorite in Cambridge
Sat outside which was nice. Tables are packed tightly together. It appeared that there was one over-worked, but well meaning waiter and an assistant for the outdoor area. He did his best under the circumstances. Food was very good and I will return.
We sat outside on the patio and had a wonderful meal, home-made pasta, sea bream. Delicious tastes, great wine and lovely European ambiance.
We enjoyed our evening at Gran Gusto. Friendly staff, and a small menu where everything sounded delicious. We both ate pasta dishes which were a little over-salted for our tastes, but the homemade pasta itself was excellent. Appetizers and dessert very good. We'll be back to try more.
Outstanding food in a townie location. Unfortunately service was awful; the owner would awkwardly hover around the 10 main tables and mostly glare at the servers while occasionally admonishing them.
We noted in our reservation that we'd like to sit out on the patio, which was the main reason for choosing this restaurant. We also noted that it was our 1st wedding anniversary. When we arrived we were told the patio was closed, since we noted the special occasion it would've been nice if the restaurant had called to let us know. They didn't acknowledge our occasion in anyway and we were sat at the most standard table at the restaurant. There were gnats surrounding us the entire length of our meal. We were told there was a cheese, prosciutto, and cantaloupe appetizer, which we ordered. When it was brought to us, by a different server (I believe the owner), we were told there was a mistake and this appetizer came with no cheese. He set the plate down and left. Didn't offer to bring us cheese or ask if we still wanted it or if we'd like to change to something else. My husband's beer was not good, the keg was clearly skunked. We didn't say anything about this so there's not much they could've done. Our meal was very marginal and not what we were expecting after reading previous reviews. Will not return.
Amazing food from appetizers to dessert. Great service and suberb food. Pizza is authentic italian...pasta is to die for. Will be a repeat customer for sure!
Nice evening. . Thank you. Enjoyable meal and staff
From really good thin crust pizzas to outstanding homemade pastas and fish dishes, I don't think it's possible to order something that isn't delightful here. Presentation is lovely, cute atmosphere, outside dining patio.
Good food and service, delightful evening as always
Great food and experience. Our waiter was great and made it very fun for me and my son. Food and wine was great! Cool place!
Pasta meals were excellent, however my daughters Risotto was very disappointing and tasteless.
Waitress was excellent and overall a great experience.
Food was delicious. Service seemed a little slow but when it arrived we realized they were making everything from scratch.
i have lived in boston for 25 years. when i want italian it is my go to. in ny a lot and as good as any NY italian restaurants ---
Great Italian ingredients, especially the cheeses and olive oil. Definitely try the pizza!
The pizze is so fresh! Many choices. Slow but friendly service. Stairs need a handrail!
This place is a gem. Authentic and delicious range of Italian dishes, with some unusual ingredients and interesting wines to accompany them.
Great hidden spot with consistently awesome authentic food, especially the homemade pastas.
Great food, strange waiters. Authentic Italian fare but the wait staff is not good. We were disappointed the pasta was not prepared table side as promised.
We have been to Gran Gusto many times. The food is always good (in this case, the pasta special was excellent). But this was the noisiest and slowest service we have had. The usually engaging host/owner was clearly overwhelmed and thus was not his usually welcoming self, and the food was quite slow in coming. The noise level also seemed much higher than usual, perhaps because of the table we had in the middle of the front room. (We asked about eating outside but were told that that required a separate reservation--presumably quieter). We had a wonderful time--despite problems with the service and noise--and will continue to frequent Gran Gusto.
Pasta Bolognase was al dente very bad . Service was very slow.
Good and service was outstanding, I went back the next day to pick up pizza for dinner, the pizza was delicious.
Made reservations and took the family here for Mother's Day dinner. We were told that we'd have to wait for our table. I was informed by the hostess that they had gotten quite busy just before we arrived. I took that to mean that they did not honor our reservation. We were made to wait 30 minutes for a table to free up, and we were eventually seated in the bar area next to a main traffic lane by the bar. My wife was regularly jostled by other patrons on their way to the bathroom, by waitstaff and food carts back and forth from the kitchen. Service overall was OK and the food was acceptable. We likely won't be eating here again.
This is the second (out of 2!) excellent meal I've experienced at Gran Gusto. Very reminiscent of north Italian restaurant . main courses lamb and turbot excellent. Only downside was a Ricotta desert that tasted a bit watery. excellent wine and coffee
Real Italian quality good pizza! We all enjoyed our food
Very nice and authentic place. Had a great time with impeccable service. The owner ensures personally that things are good and people are satisfied.
Steve, the bartender, is fabulous! It is worth going to Gran Gusto just for the cocktails.
The food is delicious but our server was terrible. She didn't provide olive oil for the bread, salt and pepper for the table, cheese for the pasta, and never came back to see if we needed anything or more drinks. We had to flag her down for everything. Other parties that were seated after us were turning over two times in the 2.5 hours it us to finish our meal. Luckily, the company and food were terrific.
Antonio is the most passionate host in the area. The tellaggio with truffle honey, fresh sliced speck and of course the gran gusto special.....the guitarra pasta....all to DUE FOR! MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE
Gran Gusto is great--especially recommend the Rhugetta salad and any of the pasta dishes.
Nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. The pasta was undercooked for us. My husband couldn't relayed his as it was too hard. Mine was okay. The sauces were good, the salad was excellent and the bread basket very good too.
Perfect example of a neighborhood gem. Somewhat off the beaten path in Cambridge. Great attention to food preparation(loved the pasta dish served in the pecorino roman cheese wheel prepared at tableside). Very satisfactory wine list. Consistently tasty menu selections at a reasonable price. No one in your party should go home hungry. All in all a very pleasant dining experience.
My favorite Italian in the Boston area. Very authentic and if it's not on the menu ask Antonio the owner and he might be able to make it for you if he has the ingredients. Makes a great seafood pizza off the menu.
Excellent food, service and value. A traditional Italian restaurant with creative flair, and convenient parking.
We were in Harvard Square and decided to take a walk to this restaurant for dinner. It's in a neighborhood setting, away from the busy Harvard Square. We both got pasta dishes and they were delicious. App/salad was very good as well. We were too full so didn't get to try desert.
Really happy to find this gem close to home, easy parking, very good service. Excellent menu, italian classics and fresh ideas. Many fresh fish and seafood options. Will put this on my local regular list. Will order everything again, grilled squid, risotto, classic Caesar salad. All my favorite italian wines by the glass.
