Food was okay, but did not live up to expectations. However, the ambiance and decor were amazing! Husband ordered Fish however, when a paying customer orders a steak cooked to a certain temperature, I believe any chef trained to work at this caliber of a restaurant should know how to properly cook a medium steak. Her steak was purple upon initial delivery and she sent it back not once, but twice and each time it was still pretty pink and medium rare, in my opinion. Luckily, we had great service and they comped her meal which I was not expecting and was a nice surprise. Tried my mom’s Amish Chicken and it was very dry and due to being over cooked, a little chewy. I did not try my dad’s Pork, but he reported he liked it and ate most of it. My Shrimp & Grits was prepared well, but my opinion is based more on my preference of wanting a a tad of sweetness to balance out the spicy flavor of the blackened preparation of the shrimp and the jalapeño gravy (I did not let my personal preference impact my overall rating as it was more about the other dishes we ordered). Overall, I think it was an off day or they had someone in the kitchen with less experience than normal. I’ve always heard wonderful things about this place and because of that I would not let this experience deter me from trying it again.
It's been 5 or 6 years since we last ate at Gram & Dun. Not much has changed. Still great service, great food and nice ambience.
Made a reservation a week in advance, upon arriving, we told them about our reservation and they said sitting outside would be about a 45 minute wait, while they could seat us inside right away.
I expected "reservation" to mean that they had "reserved" our seats. Whatever, so we took a table inside, no big deal.
Then, we waited about 20 minutes (no joke) on our server to acknowledge us before we had to flag down a manager to get any service at all.
Once we were acknowledged, service was great, constant refills, free appetizer for our wait, alright, started making up for it.
Atmosphere was very loud. I was expecting a nice sit down meal in an elegant ambiance, but was met with a similar vibe to red lobster during the busy hour.
The seating was nice, but there was no real separation of people, which led to all of the noise being trapped inside.
Drinks were good, although they didn't feel like a "restaurant" drink but moreso a common bar cocktail.
The appetizer we had was really good! Although, the potato skin they served with our gnocchi was very difficult to cut, but made the dish so much better.
Upon receiving our main course, my hangar steak was very good, but my first impression was "dry", and I found myself having to wash it down after just to rehydrate my pallet.
My date had the filet, and it was also very good, but just didn't feel like a 5-star steak.
The sides ended up being better than the main course, and although I would eat there again if I didn't have to pay, I feel as though the $100 tab was not worth the experience that was provided.
Excellent food! Everything is perfect.
Food was good, server (Steve) was excellent, would go back, and recommend to others.
4 of us were out on a Saturday night. The restaurant was only about 1/2 full. The air conditioner had gone out, so that probably has something to do with it. The place was nice, the service was great. The dinner was just okay. It was so noisy, even at 1/2 captivity, that it was hard to hear the conversation at my own table. I just don’t see myself going back. It wasn’t terrible, but for the price & with the noise level, it was just less enjoyable than it should have been.
Vegan mushroom entree was amazing, service was impeccable
It was my Birthday dinner, burnt end mac and cheese OMG delicious! Had a glass of sparkling wine and a free one for my Birthday! Can't wait to go back
Service was really slow. Food unremarkable but nice atmosphere. It was fine.
We love the Pig Wings and grits! We go there every time we are in KC and that is what we share. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. It is great for lunch! Next time we are in KC we will try it for dinner.
We had a great experience. The only weird thing was that we asked to sit inside. The hostess even said, “perfect, two for inside.” She then promptly sat us outside where I sweated for the first hour (it was 90 degrees). Just didn’t understand that.
Always a main stay for us and great place to dine. Consistently good food and service. The only negative thing to mention here is that they no longer offer valet service for parking which stinks! Parking is very limited on the plaza and this was always a great option if the weather was bad/you're running late etc. And the situation will likely only get worse with a Nordstrom being built down the street which is going to remove 200+ parking spaces in an adjacent/nearby garage.
Perhaps I ordered poorly, but the mac and cheese w/burned ends was a disappointment. Not cheesy, and the bbq was fatty and not at all burnt ends, really just pieces of brisket. This dish needs some sparkle. Mom had a pork chop that was tasty and nicely cooked. Sides were good. Service was the highlight, outstanding.
Andrea, the proud Argentinian, was absolutely delightful and went above and beyond to ensure we can a great dining experience, which we did.
Excellent all around..our waiter was excellent ,not pushy, knowledgeable about the menu, prices was feasible and the ambience was great.
Amazing! Best service and food ever.
Definitely check out the Pig Wings. One of my favorite menu items on any menu anywhere. Atmosphere and service is always great!
My girlfriend’s birthday. Amazing
We had a great celebration lunch at Gram and Dun. Service was good and the dishes were excellent. The Mac and cheese was a huge hit. And the mimosas are very good.
Over the years I've noticed plate sizes decrease while prices remain the same. I'm very disappointed in this and don't think I'll be back moving forward.
Our server seemed irritated with our questions and was a little rude. She also highly recommend the king mushroom dish and I was very disappointed. It was super bland and not very filling for $20.
Excellent selection of various food groups, and the quality is outstanding. I highly recommend the Charcuterie board, either size. The ceviche was excellent as well. The Burnt ends and Macaroni continue to astound. Overall another excellent visit.
Delicious! Next time we’ll come when it’s cooler outside so we can sit on the patio.
Excellent food and service. One of our favorites in KC.
Very nice anniversary dinner with a complementary glass of champagne. Everything was perfect!
Gram and Dun is always a consistent favorite. Great views, great drinks and great food.
We so enjoyed our dinner on the patio at Gram and Dun. Just happened it was a beautiful night. We started with potato chips and specialty ketchups. My husband had the sea bass and I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. We enjoyed delicious cocktails, we love the Smoking Dun--perfect on a summer evening. We finished everything up with a delicious Gram & Dun Bar. Service was spot on.
There were four of us dining on a Friday evening. Two enjoyed the chicken and waffles, one the skirt steak and last was the shrimp and grits. YUMMY on all accounts. They brought us champagne flutes to celebrate the two birthdays at our table. The carrot cake was amazing as was the gooey cake. In all we had a great evening at Gram & Dun and then strolled around the Plaza. Superb evening.
Best burger in town ... but not available on the dinner menu????
New recipe for chicken and waffles was terrible. Waffles were awful.
Several of the menu changes are big misses. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
Celebrating grandson achievements.
The food was really good the hamburger was really good
This restaurant has a great patio area and the service was great. Food on the other hand, not so great. I had the ribeye au poivre which based on the preparation should have been great but many bites the alcohol could be tasted in the sauce meaning that it was likely not reduced enough. Without the preparation, the steak by itself probably would have been ok. My wife had the filet. This was the saddest looking filet we had ever seen especially if it was even a filet. It was very fatty although very tender and did not taste very well. The cook on both of these steaks was ok based on our preference. For the price that this restaurant charges, the food should have been extremely elevated and it was not. I guess you are paying for the patio. One misleading thing on the menu was the wine price. They listed 7oz pours which would have been a better deal than buying a bottle. We were going to order a couple of glasses of wine rather than the bottle but our waitress suggested we get the bottle since we were sharing the same thing. I then asked her about the pours and she came back and said they were 6oz pours which is typical but the menu did not indicate that. Due to this, we ordered a bottle of the less expensive wine rather than the 2 glasses of the more expensive wine and would have probably ordered 2 more glasses of the less expensive wine. I would recommend the restaurant to a friend just to have drinks and enjoy the patio and would hope the rest of the menu items would be better than what we had. Very disappointing for my wife's birthday dinner.
Great night on the patio. Joan was our server, she was awesome!
Great service and a great way to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.
We celebrated our anniversary with a Saturday brunch at Gram & Dun, and it was a delightful first time visit! All the servers were friendly, the food was fantastic with generous portions - and a champagne surprise tipped off the great experience. We will definitely return!
Scallops tasted okay but the presentation was poor and the dish was extremely sparse and uneventful for the cost. The menu mis-represented what was delivered. This should be considered an appetizer for one person. The portions and presentations of other items ordered were a normal meal (non-app) portion.
Also, the noise level inside made it impossible to hear conversation and I don't have hearing issues. Will not be coming back to this restaurant again.
Delicious meal, great service. Happy to sit on the patio on a beautiful night. Host and Andrea (our waitress) were very accommodating when we asked to switch tables . Super loud talker making it hard for us to hear each other.
Ask for Andrea! She did a great job helping us with food and drink choices and was all together delightful. Recommend the grilled romaine salad, scallops and the chips to start.
