This place is lame and boring in every way. I know it was a 1000 point table but other 1000 point tables are great!! The bar looked a bit more happening. I would only eat here if I were staying in the hotel and too tired to go elsewhere.
Very disappointed to find out that Grain is closed on Mondays after having made a reservation through OpenTable and also confirming with a person at the hotel via phone on Monday, the day of our dinner. Instead, the hotel seated us in the bar which would have been okay except that there was an extremely noisy table next to us. This was an informal business dinner and even though it was informal, it was BUSINESS. The hotel should have told me immediately that they were not seating guests in the Grain restaurant instead of letting me find out upon arrival. Very embarrassing and awkward with my business guests. In addition, the wine that we chose was not available either. The server / bartender did what he could to accommodate us, but I would not recommend this restaurant to others.
We went for the Mothers Day brunch so the restaurant was a bit loud with young diners. We were surprised it was not more crowded given the proximity to several Churches. The food and service were both very good though.
Wife enjoyed herself bur a bit to pricey. With tip I paid 300 for 2 adults and 2 kids for buffet breakfast. Happy Mother.
The restaurant was closed... (reservations were for there) ...Eric the bartender provided great service but the only option was to sit in the bar area
There was no one to seat us at 6:00, had to go to the bar to find someone to seat us. I asked for dressing on the side, wasn't done and had to be corrected. The waiter recommended the short ribs, they were terrible and tough on the outside, fatty on the inside, very little meat. The food was not good tasty, we were disappointed.
We were there for over an hour before our food was delivered!!!
Food was great... Service was wonderful !!!
Bad in every way. We made reservations and upon arrival, there was no one to greet you or seat you. There was 1 other diner. We were a party of 5. Our daughter's meal came at least 20 minutes before anyone elses. The burger and fries were both cold when arrived. He switched out the fries. The burgers were dry and flavorless. Another daughter ordered a steak with potato croquets. Her steak arrived - without any side dish. And when he brought it out, it was 3 tater tots. Our son in law ordered the short ribs with vegetables. He got 1 rib and 2 pieces of ocra. Nothing resembling the photo online. The waiter never asked if our food was ok. When the manager asked, we said it was not very good, he only offered us a complimentary glass of wine. One of the most expensive and most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. We did wonder why we needed to make a reservation and there was only 1 other table in the restaurant. The hotel was very nice, but I would not eat here again.
Not worth the money. Both my wife and myself had stomach problems after this buffet meal. The staff was friendly but I was unaware of the cost from opentable upon making this reservation. Definitely not going to make a return trip to this restaurant
Great Thanksgiving brunch. Love the charcuterie!!!
The selection of food items for lunch was appropriate, and well priced. The service was very attentive yet unobtrusive. I always try to use this venue when hosting important lunch appointments and will continue to do so in the future.
Enjoyed our food, service & ambiance!
We were extremely disappointed. Not one of us ate our entire entrée. I had the short ribs that were overcooked. The grain on the plate was not edible. It tasted like it was not cooked at all. Like eating raw rice. The presentation of my entrée was a disaster.
food was excellent , service was excellent ,, mixed drinks I would not order again ,,
poor value for what was rec'd
My party of 9 was the only table in the place for dinner. That should've been a sign, but the other places I looked at the night before weren't available. The OpenTable menu differed significantly from the menu we were actually given, which was a big disappointment. The service was painfully slow. Our food didn't arrive until more than an hour after we arrived. Given that we were the only table, I can't imagine how they serve when busier. The food was mediocre.
Staff was very attentive and polite. Everyone had a great sense of family and making Mother's day memorable. All the mothers felt valued.
Great Sunday brunch for Mother's Day! The service was excellent, the food - superb. It was not in the main restaurant, but rather in one of the conference rooms. As such, the ambiance was only adequate. You can't do much with a conference room, after all. Still, very enjoyable and very delicious. Highly recommend.
We did Easter Brunch buffet. The selection was pretty average but none of the food was as warm as it should have been. Very surprising since it was the 11:30 seating and the ballroom was nearly empty. The service was outstanding.
We went for Easter brunch and I can honestly say it was great. We got sticker shock at the price of it, but powered on because we wanted to go out for a family meal with a ton of choices. We were not disappointed. The food was great. The attention to detail on the food left me a bit stunned. As well as the service. I travel and eat out a lot and for this to be a holiday, it was the best service I have ever received at any restaurant. It was held in the ballroom to accommodate the size of the crowd, but it still felt intimate and like a family dinner. We were so full we did not eat the rest of the day! I have asked my husband if we can come again for Mother's Day. This is a gem in the city!
Tuesday evening was not busy and didn't really need reservation. Dinner rolls were addicting and likely one of the best tasting ever. Wife's Flat Iron was delicious and perfectly cooked, also enjoyed by our 9 yo daughter. My roasted chicken was served piping hot, moist and well-seasoned. The sides were also very tasty. We also both enjoyed one of their custom cocktails. When we were initially seated, the lobby was still bustling and it was a bit noisy but they eventually left. Overall, very great experience and will do it again.
when I originally made the reservation I didn't realize it was inside a hotel-so was a little skeptical when I found out it was, but overall very good.
Went for Christmas brunch. Thought food was average at best.
My family enjoys going out on Thanksgiving day. We always choose a hotel with a buffet that offers many options. We were greatly underwhelmed with what Grain had to offer.
-Wonderful prime rib and turkey
-Great sweet potato casserole
-The make your own wedge salad station was a quirky idea that was trying to capitalize upon a trend. Not sure that it worked, but points for trying.
The negatives (there were many):
-When I inquired with a manager about where the breakfast items and seafood were (staples of nice hotel buffets), he was snappy with me and didn't seem to care about what had been advertised.
-Other than the wedge salad and a strange green salad with beets, there weren't really any other salad options. Again, a real hotel buffet offers multiple salad options.
The ham was too sweet and parts were a little dry.
-The butternut squash soup had a very powerful taste that was one-note. The oversized croutons that were served with the soup were impossible to bite into. Even once we tried soaking them in the soup, they were very hard to eat.
-The mashed potatoes were dry and did not look particularly appetizing.
-No breakfast items (bacon, pastries, etc.)
-No seafood (in particular, shrimp and oysters should be a staple of these buffets)
-The desserts were limited to pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and strawberry shortcake (the cake was tough and it is just an odd dessert for Thanksgiving). There could be one other that I am forgetting. I had the cheesecake and it was forgettable. No pecan pie!
-Music was piped in, but there was nothing live (pianist, trio, strings, etc.).
-At approx. $48 person, the price was quite high for what was offered. These buffets are never cheap, but they typically offer a great variety.
-The experience did not feel special. It seemed little different than what I would expect on a regular day. Very disappointing.
I was lured here with the 1000 point table. The hotel had a wedding reception that obviously took all their good staff. We were helped (sparingly) by the manager and the hostess. SLOW service and bad, overpriced food. My bf's steak was served over six pieces of asparagus that wasn't cooked well at all and a sauce botched so bad he had to request a clean plate. My roasted chicken was obviously roasted days ago and served so dry I wanted butter to dip it in just to choke it down. Never again.
Grain is located in the Hilton Park Cities hotel. The food was unexpectedly excellent, as was the service! we live locally and we've added this to our rotation of strong restaurants.
Eddy was great
This hotel restaurant exceeds all expectations. Our dinners were excellent....short rib and red fish. The service is simply exceptional at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Everything went well while we were there. It is after the fact. Once we got home I received a phone from the manager telling me that my receipt wasn't signed and no credit card had used to pay for the meal. Problem was I had my copy with an authorizing number. When I double checked my Amex account on Monday the base charge was there but the tip was missing. There was some family who made a scene and complained about the service, food and in general left without paying. I am thinking I was tagged instead of them by mistake. We will rethink about returning next year for Easter brunch.
While the decor w attractive and chic, the food and service left a lot to be desired. The restaurant was not busy on a Saturday night, so there was no excuse for inattentive and sporadic service. My scallops were flavorful, but the risotto underlay was very nondescript.
Dessert was certainly something not prepared fresh in the kitchen.
A quiet place to have lunch and be able to visit with the parties at the table. Small portions were available as an option.
The food was good, but not exceptional. The red fish was much better than the corn that it was served over. We were disappointed that with the name of Grain, there weren't better, and warm, breads served. The dessert selection, most bought from the outside, was also disappointing.
Knowing this restaurant was attached to a mid star hotel, we did not have high expectations. My husband and I just wanted to enjoy a quiet meal. Our appetizers were delicious, my husband had the crab cakes and I the quinoa salad. The disappointment started with our main meal: fried quail and grilled bass. My husbands meal consisted of 2 whole quail over grits but the batter wasnt seasoned very well with little meat to enjoy. He picked around at it hoping to find something substantial...the plate was a mess once he was done! My bass on mushroom risotto was very dry, it needed a sauce. To finish off the disappointment our creme brulee was runny :( Definitley not worth what we paid for it, sorry !
The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and quick to respond. The dining room was comfortable and stylish, but did have a "hotel" feel with the breakfast buffet adjacent to the dining room. The menu sounds fun in a Texas kinda of way, but the food did not meet our expectations. For starters, we had crab cake salads. The vinaigrette was very nice, but the crab cakes were heavy and doughy, not edible. Our entree choices, filet and bass, did not change the direction of dinner. The bass was dry, risotto pasty, and the filet was asked to be cooked rare and it came out well. The vegetables had been cooked so long it was hard to tell what they were. Unfortunately, dessert wasn't any better....we only ate the ice cream. On the positive side, after dinner we moved to the bar/lounge area. This area was casual and great for a drink, conversation and to catch a glimpse of the game.
We arrived around 6pm and hardly any sign of operation than the bar.
It could be the Holidays, but not having scallops or shrimps available is unbelievable in view of their very limited menu. Even with the items they had they didn't do a good job.
If I have time I wouldn't come back even I stay in the very same hotel
Went for Christmas Brunch and there was no food left. They made us wait more than 30 minutes past our reservation time, then no food? No one would help out either. RIDICULOUS.
Christmas Day brunch was a complete joke and expensive. Server was great Food was just awful
the food had been sitting out look long and they weren't bringing fresh food out
Some food good many not up to standards. Room was awful with too bright lighting and noisy. So not sure if regular restaurant has the same problem with food.
Grain's holiday brunches are always well prepared and seasoned to perfection. Grain takes great pride in the food that they prepare and serve. You may even get a visit from the head chef at your table. We tried Grain several years ago and have been returning every year for their holiday brunches. Everyone in our party enjoys the food and the staff is attentive to your needs. The noise level is low so you can enjoy your conversations while you dine.
