Gracias Madre - SF
In an effort to cultivate a shared experience of nourishment through food and community, all tables at Gracias Madre are sat communally.
Fantastic food - we came from Montreal and Ohio - looked for organic, vegan food and found this lovely restaurant - flavors and food combinations were outstanding
One word: Amazing .
Everything was on point, service, cocktail, food etc.
Incredible vegan food with the kindest wait staff!! 10/10 would come back
I dine at Gracias Madre regularly, and as usual the food was delicious. The portion of the service relating to taking the order and bringing food and drinks was efficient and friendly. My only complaint has to do with the handling of reservations. We arrived at 4:45, 15 minutes before our reservation. One of the wait staff told us to sit anywhere. I explained to her that we had a reservation, gave her my name and asked that she make sure to note that we had indeed arrived. She did not and I received an email from Open Table asking why I had not honored my reservation. This is the second time this has happened. Please ask your staff to follow through with a simple request of noting that a customer with a reservation has arrived.
The brunch menu was limited, wish I had ordered off the regular menu. It was pretty dark and the restrooms needed attention even though we were the first guests that day.
Wishing a vegan restaurant would offer fake egg dishes for their brunch menu.
Great place to meet friends enjoy the food and ambiance you never feel pressured to hurry up a local favorite
Located on a street where the homeless gather outside, doing all sorts. Not the restaurants fault but FYI location does not feel safe. Just want to make others aware before they visit.
Restaurant is nothing like the LA Gracias Madre, we were told by waiter food is more authentic- it was awful, no flavour, no effort and no taste.
I have no idea who would ever recommend this restaurant but I really wouldn’t bother trying it.
FYI Gracias Madre In LA is amazing, food is outstanding and innovate vegan Mexican cuisine.
I’ve had the most amazing brunches here. We went for lunch and it was not the same experience. Our bowls were VERY spicy. I like some heat and have had spicy here before but someone in the kitchen was over doing it Monday. Love the staff and ambiance.
Great vegan Mexican food! Fast service and friendly. I would highly recommend!
Very heavy food, quite bland. Salsas are good, guac was good but basic.
Enchiladas and tamale were hard...and not that hot. A sure sign they were prepared ahead of time and zapped in the microwave. No wonder they came out a couple of minutes after we ordered. Very pricey even if the food had been good, but for such sub-par food, no excuse.
I love it here! I come time and time again. This time I have a reservation for 3 and ending up bringing 4 and they were very accommodating. We also shared a table which I have no problem with. You'd assume you can hear the other party at the same table as you but you cant. The food is so delicious!!! I'm trying to try everything on the menu.
This place is good but far from great and definitely overpriced. I am troubled that you cannot get chips and salsa gratis at a Mexican restaurant. The cocktails for $16 looked creative but in the end weren’t spectacular. There are really great bars in San Francisco that give much more for that price. I’m sure it’s great if you are vegan but there are better places otherwise, even for vegetarians.
One of my favorite restaurants in the city! The most delicious vegan food and great drinks too. Service is always super friendly. Highly recommended!
Our reservation was honored on time. Service was friendly and helpful. The margaritas were killer, really quality and refreshing. The food was a hit with everyone in the party. Enchiladas, flautas, tacos were all good. Side dishes as simple as black beans were excellent. Deserts of chocolate cake and "ice cream" and the cinnamon "ice cream" were a hit. Our first trip here and we will be back.
I might suggest early reservations since the place was packed by the time we left. We loved it.
Omg. AMAZING. Loved the staff. And obsessed with the food.
We haven’t eaten at Gracias Madre in a few years. We always had a good experience, although the food was always on a heavy side. This time, everything was great, except for food. It appears that the menu has slightly changed and the food became increasingly starchy. We’re not vegans ( pescatarians) but do enjoy good vegan food occasionally.. It seems that the chef ran out of the food plant protein dishes and replaced them with carbs. The prices don’t match the quality. I really miss the Herbivore restaurant on Divisadero that served good vegan food at very reasonable prices.
Good food; has a bit of a spicy kick (I'm a mild-spicy guy). Very friendly staff.
Very tasty food, made of quality organic ingredients. Spicy! Good selection of drinks, also.
my friends and I are from Los Angeles and we have a GRACIAS MADRE here in West Hollywood but we enjoy this location, the original, so much more. from service to food quality- we are never disappointed with our experience.
The food is delicious and our waiter was really friendly.
However, we had to wait for 15 minutes even with a reservation and were seated just next to the entry door - where a cool air draft blew onto us while eating whenever the door was opened.
Great food and service, only downside is the many homeless with their smells parked outside .
If you're a vegan or vegetarian and like great Mexican food that's not run of the mill this is a must go to place.
I was looking for a nice vegan restaurant with good quality food at a good price and found this place. I was soo excited that I booked a reservation 3 months in advance and I’m glad I did it was definitely worth it.
Great flavors of Mexican food captured in vegan food! And the desserts are just as amazing as well. We sat at the bar and the service was so friendly and very welcoming. I don't think I ever had food served to me so fast after ordering. If you love, or are open to trying vegan food, I would definitely put Gracias Madre on the list to eat!
My friend and I shared the enchiladas and tamal. Both were delicious but I think the enchiladas were better!
Food is delicious although appetizer proportions are small- especially chips and guacamole. My Tofu dish was good but not outstanding. The tofu was too too firm. The server was very businesslike and not very friendly. We did not appreciate the live performer who barely played anything at our table come around literally forcing us to tip him! That just spoiled our mood!! The drinks were dilute (we ordered several cocktails and margaritas).
Yummy gluten-free French toast and gorditas. . The figs in the fig salad were not good. Good refried beans.
Seems to have gotten worse over the past year. Appetizer portions were tiny and the entrees were just OK. Service sporadic. Very loud.
Food was excellent and service was prompt and friendly. I had cauliflower tacos and gorditas. Both were delicious and good value at $5 each on the Happy Hour menu. Others in our party had flautas, enchiladas and jackfruit tacos--all very good! Will definitely come again when next in San Francisco.
It was nice but I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere at the Gracias Madre in Los Angeles better.
We arrived early on a Sunday for brunch and enjoyed a cozy patio spot. Bowl Uno for me was delicious and full of tasty flavors, and spices. We also had yummy plantain French toast, gluten free with cashew cream and maple syrup. We enjoyed lattes with almond/rice milk and chocolate. All a lovely experience. Get there early!
Food was not as good as we hoped, the pozole was not very tasty.
Dinner with friends. Love the food, met nice people!
Gracias Madre is absolutely not a place I'd come back to in San Francisco. To start, the host checking in tables clearly had too many tasks assigned to them and needed additional support—they were checking people in, checking reservations, taking people to their tables, and also helping to clear and set up tables. That's way too much for a restaurant the size of Gracias Madre, and left the host clearly overworked and the restaurant with a long and slow line. Additionally, there was someone outside of the restaurant asking for food and money. This person was in no way situated on the restaurant property, and was not physically or verbally harassing any patrons in any way. Despite, restaurant "management" came outside and got aggressive with this person, asking them to leave in a near-yelling voice. I thought that was both irresponsible and unwarranted—it would have been much easier to just give the person what they wanted; food.
Finally, on the topic of food, Gracia's Madre's food was actually just horrible—a half step up from Chipotle with store bought margarita mix. The bowls that Gracias Madre is "famous" for are quite literally the same as what one would get at Chipotle or another fast food restaurant—beans on top of romaine and rice. That the food took about 5 minutes to be delivered to our table after ordering tells you everything you need to know about the quality of the food—it's not freshly made, unoriginal, and quite frankly, not worth the price.
Great vegan organic Mexican food. If you need it, you need it!
Always great food and we had an excellent server, Connor I believe. He worked really hard to help my wife with her many food restrictions. I had a special, a tamale with mole sauce - amazing. A pure watermelon juice to drink-delicious. She had cauliflower tacos that were pretty spicy and tasty. Being located in the Mission District May turn off some, but I’ve never had any issues parking or walking around. But I’m fine with street people and homeless, vendors selling their wares, etc. It’s hard to find anything matching vegan Mexican like GM.
Dinner for four, never a let down. We always reserve Gracias Madre for special occasions.
Everything was great, but way too noisy at times in the outside area... Might be nice if there were sound barriers on either side of the front gate. Just a thought. I hope that’s helpful.
Nice to have vegetarian menu selections. Food was fresh.
