Absolutely amazing!! I am vegan and was in heaven!! Came with two omnivores and they also loved it. Best part was ALL VEGAN COCKTAILS!
My favorite restaurant for a vegetarian meal - good food, friendly service, and well priced.
What has happened to Gracias Madre? We've been dining here for years and the changes they've implemented to the menu and service leave me questioning if I would want to ever eat there again.
Even taking the COVID pandemic into consideration, the service is horrible and the manager on duty during our visit this past Saturday completely lacked any understanding of their menu items. He noted he had only been a manager for 3 weeks. Again, even taking that into consideration, my meal was way off from the countless times I've ordered it over the years. It was cold (supposed to be hot), far smaller then every other time I've ordered it by 60%, turned into some type of mash versus individual components. It lacked flavor and being cold or at best, room temperature was off putting. The manager reluctently offered to send another one out to the table. He admitted it should have been served hot. I even took the time to show him what it should've looked like from a previous review I posted. He didn't hardly say a word. The replacement eventually arrived to the table, same size, same room temperature. The manager never stopped by the table again to check and see if it was better. The check came from the server while we were stilling eating, never asking if we wanted anything else. We paid and left. Doubt we'll be back after supporting this restaurant for well over 5 years. A very sad experience.
Enjoyed the food. Love that they are all vegan. There was a hiccup as forgot to add guac and vegan sour cream even though I ordered it. They did give it too me on the side once I realized it wasn't in the burrito. I thought the server was a bit rude and at first wouldn't split our bill yet finally did. Felt she could have been nicer.
Very good for vegan food, especially because I’m not vegan. Expensive for sure. I probably won’t go back again. My vegan daughter probably would. The posole was really good, especially with the “carnitas” aka jackfruit.
My favorite place to stop in the mission! Everything is always better than I expected.
The margaritas and burrito were awesome!
Food was amazing! Will definitely come back :)
Very impressed with Gracias Madre. We arrived a bit late and even though the kitchen was about to close, they still let us place a last minute order and dine. We really appreciated that service.
The food was delicious and with a great Vegan menu. Overall excellent experience. Highly recommend.
I have a variety of food allergies and am a vegetarian it accommodated both. Fun vibe and atmosphere great drinks reasonably priced. Definitely a go to
Gracia Madre was fantastic. Despite being in the Mission District, the primary outdoor seating (there is some seating out on the sidewalk, which is not behind the wall/gate) was beautiful and quiet. The service was incredible from start to finish, with the feeling of the best kind of local restaurant. The food managed to exceed all of my expectations. I eat mostly vegetation (with a few cheat days), and the vegan dishes served here satisfied my desire for Mexican that excelled most of the traditional Mexican restaurants I've eaten at (my dad is from New Mexico, so that is more than I'd like to admit). The totopas were incredible, my flautaus were fantastic, and my wife's cauliflower taco and vegan chorizo quesadilla were amazing. Also, the hibiscus margarita and horchata were great. Don't miss this unique gem of a vegan restaurant.
Waiter was inattentive and food was bland.
This is our fourth time here. It never disappoints! Every item on the menu is top notch!
While the menu states plenty of gluten free options, there is rampant cross contamination so if you have a true allergy there is close to nothing you can eat. It was loud, freezing cold from fans pumping and service was slow. I was texted that my table was ready 20m before my reservation and called 3 times to busy signals to make sure we wouldn’t lose our spot… what’s the point of making a reservation at a certain time if it’s not honored???
We had delicious bacon wrap, torta ,flan and coconut ice cream. Never disappointed with food.
Wonderful, complex flavors and the food just happens to be vegan. A warm, comfortable and casual atmosphere, thoughtful attentive servers. Great place.
Our go-to place for Mexican food when we visit San Francisco
This place is so good. The Pozole is ridiculous. Service is wonderful as well!
The mission district is filthy. Dining there after getting past the filth felt a bit iffy. But everything else was great!
Service was very slow but once we ordered it was forgotten. Ordered torta and my husband ordered flautas de comote . The dishes were outstanding. I have never eaten a better torta w/ or w/o meat. Half was filling but had to eat whole thing it was so good w escabeche. Black bean spread on best bread (acme)in the world. Hadn't been here since shutdown of pandemic and glad to he back. Can't wait to be back.
I didn't realize this restaurant was vegan until I arrived. (I'm not vegan.) My party and I were all pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and we actually want to go back. :)
My meat loving
Delicious plant based food that everyone at the table can enjoy! Plenty of amazing drinks to try, definitely plan to come again
The food is good for vegan fair. Flavors are good and not sweet. That being said, salsas could be spicier and stronger flavored.
Some of the prices do not make sense
We really enjoyed our lunch at Gracias Madre. The food was amazing, the staff (Natalie and Anna), took excellent care of us and helped us celebrate my Mom's birthday. One of the best margaritas I have ever had! We enjoyed the flautas, quesadilla, Bowl Uno, strawberry cheesecake and flan. If we lived in San Francisco, we would definitely eat there, at least once a week. We highly recommend that you visit for the food, cocktails and hospitality!
Great food! Had to wait about 10 min for our table to be ready
I’m not a vegan and restaurants like this help me realize how yummy vegan food can be. Very nice staff. Great spot!
Honestly... The food was not great. I ordered a sweet potato quesadilla and it was just an entirely too thick log of sweet potatoes with barely any flavoring. My dining partner had the avocado toast which tasted okay, but was fairly unappetizing to look at. The drinks were fine. The service and location were lovely. I won't be coming back.
The food was delicious but the service was incredibly slow. The server didn’t check on us for quite some time and when she finally did we ordered a round of drinks which we didn’t see for at least 20 minutes and it required prompting from a different server who walked by. I don’t know if the cost and time wasted was worth the good food.
Great place for vegan food! Friendly staff and excellent cocktails.
Very good food and drinks! Love that everything is vegan and everything was so delicious!
Only cons, a bit pricey! and parking is not very good. Not in the most desirable location of SF (had a lot of strangers/creeps trying to talk/catcall my friend and I and we witnessed one man try to aggressively grab a young girls arm when she ignored him trying to talk/catcall her.)
Lovely evening with a dear old friend- great food and service.
I love that this restaurant remains open, and that it requires proof of vaccinations. We had a nice lunch there for the first time since Covid hit, so it was a nice treat to even be able to enjoy a sit-down mean in a vegan restaurant. Thanks for being there for us, and also for being safe.
Great desserts and horchata lattes.
I love this iconic SF vegan restaurant. I don't get the chance to eat there often, but it's always nice when I get a chance to. I took a vegan friend who hadn't been to California before, and she enjoyed it thoroughly. The gorditas, tortas, and quesadillas were all solid and fresh. They have an extensive mezcal and tequila drink list, too. I'll definitely keep coming back!
Food was very cold. Staff was very friendly.
I told them I was allergic to treenuts but my food had traces of treenuts because I had an allergic reaction afterwards.
We love this spot. However, the last couple visits the dishes were way too spicy (and we are not usually sensitive to spice) despite the server saying they were medium spice to the point of being almost inedible. That said, solid vegan fare and anything with the jackfruit carnitas is bomb.
Food was decent for vegan cuisine but nothing amazing. I have been to the LA location and the food and ambiance is much nicer at that location
I went to Gracias Madre ten years ago and loved it. My SF bestie told me it is still the best vegan restaurant in the city. She was right! The staff was so kind and the food was amazing! I had the tamal and my son had the torta. We shared the cauliflor frito for an appetizer and the chocolate cake for dessert. My only non-"five" in my review was just because they were packed and we ended up next to the bar and payment station, but that won't deter me in the future. I will go to Gracias Madre every time I'm in the city!
