Great service and drinks.
This place is amazing... our server was fantastic, the food was off the hook, and the setting in the church was a beautiful backdrop.
This is s great place for a "date night" or just a great night out. Great food, service, ambiance!
Walking into Grace is visually stunning. The food and the service were absolutely wonderful.
The crawfish appetizer was most delicious. The entrées were divine and the dessert spectacular.
This restaurant is truly full of Grace.
Very clever setting. The food was excellent and service was good despite the restaurant being quite busy. Recipes were unique and flavorfull, and to food was cooked perfectly. My wife is pretty picky and said "It's the best meat I've had in years".....
We were there for an hour and a half. We didn't have time to finish our meal or try dessert. We had tickets to a show, so we had to leave. I wouldn't mind a very leisurely dinner typically. I will make sure I don't have other plans on a night we go here.
The food was excellent. I eat out a lot and I have to say, again, the food was excellent.
From pictures of Grace, I thought it would be a fancier place. I was surprised at how plain it was. How simple. I am assuming the architecture is carrying the ambiance.
The music was good and you can hold a conversation with your table mate. That's important.
We spent $130.00, before tip, for two drinks each, two appetizers and two entrees. I think that might be a little high, but I was at another restaurant the previous night and spent $110.00, for two, and the food wasn't nearly as good.
I will go back and try it again.
Bread and butter is excellent!
Deep fried Foire gras was flavorful but a bit overly fried and left an oily impression. Sea scallops main course overcooked and oversalted. Presentation is too busy. Pomegranate does not go well with the sea scallops at all. Very friendly staff. Ambience and decor very nice.
Beautiful setting and wonderful staff. One of my best meals in awhile. Very tasty dishes with a variety of flavors. Loved the Italian Chicory Salad and the Monkfish. Highly recommend.
server was awesome food was average. loved the bar and bartender
We had a wonderful experience at Grace. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had an excellent waiter. The ambiance was lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I have been to Grace before for late night snacks & always enjoyed the bar menu. Took my wife for dinner this Saturday, food was phenomenal and Rachel our waitress was outstanding. The only thing I would have hoped for would have been placed upstairs rather than by the staircase especially when I reserved our table well in advance.
We both ordered the short ribs - unbelievably delicious. The presentation was beautiful. The raw oysters were fantastic. The pineapple angel food cake dessert was to die for - the mint chocolate choice was a bit disappointing. A wonderful dining experience.
Excellent food, beautiful place and a great waiter - Thank you Burt!
It was my wife’s birthday. We had a great dinner: hanger steak, scallops and lamb. Marlin appetizer and pot de creme and angel cake dessert. Great service too.
This was our first visit to Grace; it definitely will not be our last. The setting, food, ambience, and the server’s GENUINE interest and attentiveness all exceeded our expectations. Although it is more expensive than a Portland restaurant we tried last month, we felt that overall, we’d prefer to pay a little more at Grace for a memorable meal (and really pleasant atmosphere) than pay a little less for an unmemorable one.
I'm always surprised that Grace is not busier than it is on a Friday night.... The location is great, the setting is wonderful, the food is of very high quality and the service is lovely.... But the atmosphere is a bit flat for some reason and the kitchen staff (which we can look at from the gallery tables upstairs) doesn't appear to be rushed in any way...... The seared foie gras and squash gnocchi were very good, as were the duck breast and short ribs. Good wine list too, and again, friendly efficient service. So I'm surprised it's not packed every night (but I also don't mind a little quiet...)
Interesting food, great ingredients. A bit overpriced in comparison to alternatives close by. But it's a really cool space! Great place to grab a drink.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and going to the symphony. The service was outstanding, the food well prepared and very well presented; the menu offered more than sufficient choice. We always thoroughly enjoy our visits to Grace and heartily recommend it to all.
Much of the original church still remains making for unique ambiance not to mention the food and service was fabulous! We will be back!
Grace is a very unique restaurant with gorgeous cathedral lines and a fun bar space. We were slightly concerned about the parking when we arrived at the side street but we had luck right away and noticed a lot of turnover while we ourselves parked. Our server was particularly knowledgeable and personable and took the time to make us feel like she was not overworked. Then menu was extremely unique and we had several questions on the sides. That being said, its really nice to have sides included. The only negative was that we did not have the best table for ambiance. Other than that it is a really special place for a fun or romantic night out.
Great place. Amazing dinner!
Grace is a lovely restaurant, very conveniently located. Unfortunately, the food has become more disappointing with each visit. As nothing on the entree list looked appealing this time (or at least was accompanied with anything I wanted), I limited myself to a salad and another starter, both of which were decent enough but not enough to come back for. Grace is such a perfect place to go before or after a concert at the Merrill Auditorium, which is why I go. But I always feel let down by the meal I'm served.
Great food and even better staff!
This is truly a unique restaurant, where the service is excellent, the food is outstanding...a superb experience all around!
Overall I liked the place. However, Hosts would not allow us to be seated upstairs, even though we had a reservation, and arrived early, and the hostess was kind of rude. Speaking the Manager, she politely indicated that we needed to request this seating on our reservation at Open table and was sorry. Also one meal was served cold/Room temperature, Braised Short Ribs. The meal when heated was delicious. The Manager and Waitress gave the Braised short ribs for free as compensation.
I had high hopes before going to Grace and I was pretty disappointed. The ambiance (an old church) and the apps (french onion soup and oysters on the half-shell) were great, but our entrees were terrible! I ordered the steak medium-well and it came out cold and bleeding. I asked for a side baked potato and our server brought out french fries! It took 15 minutes for the baked potato to come out. My husband got the monkfish and it was translucent in the center - completely slimy and raw. All of our food came out cold. Aside from this, it was super expensive. If you're in the area and want some creative cocktails and oysters, go for it! If you're looking for yummy food, there are 100 other restaurants to try in Portland before Grace.
Never disappointed- great food and great service.
Best onion soup!
Great food service and atmosphere. Exceeded my expectations
We are always astounded that Grace can be so comfortable inside when it's freezing outside. We found the upstairs seating gave us a great view while not drafty.. Service was professional and not rushed. Our salad was interesting and sharable. Mains were also generous in size and creative.
It was my wedding anniversary weekend dinner. It was low key with high quality food. The ambiance was great and the whole restaurant offers a scenic contemporary experience. Menu, service, and restaurant was amazing. It was also very baby-friendly while maintaining its sophistication.
Never a bad meal at Grace. Service was excellent. Big fan of the oysters and cheese platters.
This was the perfect spot for our New Years Eve dinner ! We always choose Grace for special occasions and it never fails.
The dinner and se vice were excellent. The atmosphere is unique and stunning.
Food was much too salty. Expectations much higher given price. Onion soup super salty and full of bread. Gnocchi too salty and too much bacon.
We were a party of 5 and absolutely every meal was amazing! The service was exceptional and the ambiance was perfect! It was an exceptional experience!
My adult son had dinner here on a weekend visit to Portland. The venue is beautiful, the service impeccable, and the food delicious and beautifully presented!
The location and ambiance cannot be beat. Unfortunately the food did not live up to our expectations. It seems like the chef is trying too hard to be different .... so many variations in each entree left our heads spinning and the taste combinations sometimes didn't work. Our group of five was underwhelmed. I would return to have cocktails at the amazing bar, but would not choose to eat there again.
Underwhelming. I had the sashimi appetizer which was obviously in the refrigerator waiting to come out when it really needed to be at room temperature. And it was pretty flavorless. Same with the short ribs. The short ribs were fatty and tasted less braised and more stewed. My friends had the scallops with risotto - the risotto was hard to find it was such a minor part of the dish. It was all seriously overpriced for what you get. There are much finer dining options in this foodie paradise. The service was slow - drinks came late, dinner plates were confused and my pet peeve, our signed receipts (with added tip amounts) were taken off the table before we left. Our server, however was very friendly and accommodating so no complaints there. Grace needs to step up.
We did the pre-show supper and had a wonderful time. Thoroughly enjoyed our time overlooking the kitchen and watching all the prep workwhile eating a delicious meal. Our server, Marli, entertained us with stories about the church while guiding us to some excellent choices of drink and food. Kudos to the kitchen and wait staff, it made our first visit a very pleasant memorable one.
