I went there for the first time Saturday night. Loved it! Wonderful service.
One of the Top 5 Restaurants in Portland!!! From great wines which are reasonably priced to some of the best dishes you can get in a serious foodie city, you can't miss with Grace. I tried the short rib which is the best in town. Others at my table had the duck and fish entres which were also stellar. You can't go wrong on Grace's varied menu from starters thru desserts. We have eaten there several times and have never had a bad experience. We will be back, hopefully soon.
Great food and beverage selections, knowledgeable and friendly stafg in a unique setting. One criticism, I would like to see a consistent foie gras offering in addition to the special offering. I came in there once and loved it and kept coming back hoping to experience the same thing but they change it every time. Otherwise, fantastic!
As always, a wonderful meal. Server was a little under our usual a experience, but not terribly so.
We had a lovely waiter, and our food was excellent. However, the bartender did not get our drinks right. Mine was not very flavorful and had too much ice. My daughter ordered a soda (!) and we sent it back 3 times because he/she kept giving us the wrong kind of soda. That was weird. I also thought that the wait between our appetizers (which came super fast) and our meal (which took a really long time) was too long. Overall, I have been to this restaurant a number of times and I would go again. I think our night was just an aberration.
We loved the old church and we were pleased to see that the restaurant has accommodated to the old building rather than vice versa. Great food and service. We are beer lovers and the draft list, while not extensive, had so e good choices. It was our first time there and we will go back. Thumbs up!
This was our first time at Grace but definitely will not be our last. Lovely atmosphere in a beautifully restored church. Food was creative and excellent. Service was attentive but not overly so. A perfect meal before the theater!
My daughter was taking me to a concert at the Merrill for my bday. We had dinner at Grace before.
First of all don’t ever take the walnut gnocchi off the menu or the monk fish or the angel food dessert.
We split the app and both had the monk fish. Both were amazing. I had not been to Grace in awhile but will be back soon.
The dessert was outstanding also, perfect ending to a great dinner.
Our waiter, Burt, was friendly and helpful and never overbearing. He helped to make our night out special.
Exceptional service from Taylor! Food was great from scallops, chicken, ribeye, duck. Halibut cut could be better.
Interesting church conversion. Accommodating staff. Be aware to ask when booking to be seated on main floor. There is handicapped access from street to main floor but not up to balcony level. Staff quickly made changes to accommodate access when we arrived. Overall nice experience with elderly parents and children. Will return.
Good food, knowledgeable staff, super ambiance, superb wine list
Great experience from the greeting at the door, excellent friendly service, delicious food and perfect table upstairs overlooking the kitchen. Loved watching the chefs turn out gorgeous plates of food.
Love this place, anytime we go to shows in Portland this is our first choice . Our waitress Madison was the best .
See you on the 20th
Perfect evening. Dinner was delicious!!
Absolutely loved the restaurant. Dinner and app selections and high quality and prepared wonderfully. A few comments. Our drink order took over 10 minutes. The bar(s) did not look very busy. An element (the 63 degree egg) was left off the hanger steak. Service was pretty good as well.
With that said, I would definitely go back and recommend without hesitation.
Great night with good friends! Unhurried dinner that gave us plenty of time( at our request) to enjoy the wonderful , creative food! Not cozy because it is in a large, vaulted ceiling church, but there are tables that are more intimate up on the balcony. And it is not noisy as there is plenty of room between tables! The food is a delight and something for everyone. Our waitress took time to explain any questions we had and was just the right mix of attentive but not intrusive! A 5 star experience!
Wife’s birthday. First time there & we were very pleased. It was excellent ! French onion soup was terrific, a bit different, but great flavor! Chicken dish was very good. Presentation & flavors, terrific. It’s upscale & fine dining, so it’s not inexpensive, but still excellent overall, we will go back.
Space and service were outstanding. Food did not match. Short ribs were very tender and generous size, but needed better accompanying flavors to offset rich meaty taste which was overpoweringly redundant.
Excellent as always! It's hard to say what was better: the food or the service! We need to find reasons to dine here more often...
The converted church has a wonderful atmosphere and aesthetics. The service is friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food is well prepared and perfectly seasoned. Very nice reasonably priced wine list. I had the beef short ribs that I think are the best in the area. My guest had the chicken breast and that plate was equally delicious. Have been to Grace dozens of times and always enjoy the experience.
Friendly, accommodating front people. Seated promptly. Server was knowledgeable, easy to understand, attentive to our needs, and had a great personality. Kitchen chefs timed everything perfectly from appetizers to the special Sachertorte served with birthday greetings. Enjoyed the card which the staff signed.
We eat here at least twice a year and have never been disappointed. The charm of the former church is magical. One of a kind experience. Don't miss this in your travels through Portland.
This review would have gotten 5 stars except for our waiter, who was lacking in personality. He never cracked a smile or made us feel welcome. The ambience, an ex-church, was lovely, but cavernous. The food was excellent, especially the French Onion Soup. We might try Grace again before the Symphony, but will ask for a table on the upper level. It may feel less like we're sitting in a huge cave.
Apparently this restaurant had a bad rap because of a handful of butthurt gun nuts who likely have never been there. Do not listen to those morons. This restaurant serves some incredible food in a setting that absolutely deserves to be seen and experienced. Our lamb belly melted on your mouth, and our steaks were flavourful and cooked to perfection. The wine selection was solid, and our server was attentive without being intrusive. Overall a wonderful dinner, will make a point to get there again.
This was our first dining experience at Grace and it was wonderful. The service was perfect - a pleasant and well informed server who was respectful of our requests and timely with responses. The food was delicious as we ordered items with ingredients new to us. The sweet and salty bread and whipped butter an absolute favorite as were the fried oyster mushrooms. We were interested in seeing the decor and experiencing the ambiance of a restored church turned restaurant and were not disappointed by the impressive artistry. We enjoyed a relaxing and comfortable delicious meal at Grace. Looking forward to a return visit!
Excellent food, interesting and creative. I enjoyed the Amberjack a fish that I love but don't see on menus.
Great service and drinks.
Excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends.
This place is amazing... our server was fantastic, the food was off the hook, and the setting in the church was a beautiful backdrop.
This is s great place for a "date night" or just a great night out. Great food, service, ambiance!
Walking into Grace is visually stunning. The food and the service were absolutely wonderful.
The crawfish appetizer was most delicious. The entrées were divine and the dessert spectacular.
This restaurant is truly full of Grace.
Very clever setting. The food was excellent and service was good despite the restaurant being quite busy. Recipes were unique and flavorfull, and to food was cooked perfectly. My wife is pretty picky and said "It's the best meat I've had in years".....
We were there for an hour and a half. We didn't have time to finish our meal or try dessert. We had tickets to a show, so we had to leave. I wouldn't mind a very leisurely dinner typically. I will make sure I don't have other plans on a night we go here.
The food was excellent. I eat out a lot and I have to say, again, the food was excellent.
From pictures of Grace, I thought it would be a fancier place. I was surprised at how plain it was. How simple. I am assuming the architecture is carrying the ambiance.
The music was good and you can hold a conversation with your table mate. That's important.
We spent $130.00, before tip, for two drinks each, two appetizers and two entrees. I think that might be a little high, but I was at another restaurant the previous night and spent $110.00, for two, and the food wasn't nearly as good.
I will go back and try it again.
Bread and butter is excellent!
Deep fried Foire gras was flavorful but a bit overly fried and left an oily impression. Sea scallops main course overcooked and oversalted. Presentation is too busy. Pomegranate does not go well with the sea scallops at all. Very friendly staff. Ambience and decor very nice.
Beautiful setting and wonderful staff. One of my best meals in awhile. Very tasty dishes with a variety of flavors. Loved the Italian Chicory Salad and the Monkfish. Highly recommend.
server was awesome food was average. loved the bar and bartender
We had a wonderful experience at Grace. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had an excellent waiter. The ambiance was lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I have been to Grace before for late night snacks & always enjoyed the bar menu. Took my wife for dinner this Saturday, food was phenomenal and Rachel our waitress was outstanding. The only thing I would have hoped for would have been placed upstairs rather than by the staircase especially when I reserved our table well in advance.
We both ordered the short ribs - unbelievably delicious. The presentation was beautiful. The raw oysters were fantastic. The pineapple angel food cake dessert was to die for - the mint chocolate choice was a bit disappointing. A wonderful dining experience.
Excellent food, beautiful place and a great waiter - Thank you Burt!
