Service and ambience are great and the restaurant is very convenient to Merrill Auditorium. Food was too salty. Even the delicious bread had huge salt crystals on it.

Another great experience. Delicious food and great service! We live in Atlanta and are used to many choices when it comes to very good private establishments, Grace easily compares with their food and service and the extraordinary atmosphere is icing on the cake. Portlanders should be proud of all their wonderful choices, and Grace is definitely one of them.

Grace continues to be one of Portland, Maine's prized gems. The menu continues to evolve and remains one of Portland's best. A must-see ambiance. Great for tourists or locals.

We were excited to go to Grace because of the great church-to-restaurant atmosphere; however, I have never been more disappointed with a meal in my life. The food was absolutely terrible. We ordered the steak, duck breast, and foie gras. The foie gras was good, not great. The entrees were so bad we paid and left without eating them. My boyfriend pointed out that our steak tasted like a hotdog after the first bite, and he couldn’t have been more right. He related the duck sauce to spaghettios. We paid our bill, got coffee and walked around, and then went home and ate dinner there.

Extremely disappointing, especially for the price point. We wouldn’t go back for free.

Very disappointing experience, outside of a truly excellent server. We were one of only three or four tables in the entire restaurant. Our three dishes arrived with cold ingredients in each one. This place is no bargain. They charge top-shelf prices and serve cold food. Probably our last visit.

First time at Grace and everything went very well. Our server Joy was the best. Noting was missed and she was superior regarding my GF request. Exceptional service. We had the Best night and my date was equally happy beyond expectation. Thank you!

The server was wonderful, the ambiance pleasing. It was a setup for a perfect night out. The cheese plate was an excellent start, and the bread was delicious, but it was downhill from there. I ordered the duck, which came with a strange lentil-flavored sauce that ruined it. My husband got the monkfish, which in itself was good, but the mysterious vivid green sauce also had a strange flavor to it. I was really excited to try the pumpkin coffee cake--all my favorite things in one! But it was a total disappointment. It tasted stale, and I didn't finish it. It came with a little spoonful of ice cream, which WAS delicious. My husband had the apple turnover, but he thought the cheese did not go well in it.

I really wish the food were as good as everything else. Despite the disappointing meal, I left happy.

Grace is a fascinating space as a converted church providing a gracious space for dinner. All three of our meals were very good, and in some instances excellent, with a good range of choices including several, interesting and creative preparations that go beyond the commonplace. The service, while attentive and well spaced, for some reason came across as a bit helter-skelter, but still very good. Grace is a very good place to have dinner in a small city justifiably proud of being an amazing gathering place of good restaurants. Easily recommended.

Grace was a really wonderful date night / birthday dinner place. We were in from out of town and so the place definitely felt like a special occasion ambiance. Food was delicious except we filled up on bread and appetizers before we even got our main course! Everything was too good! Waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful to us seafood newbies.

With so much wonderful food in New England, this meal was a bit of a disappointment. We enjoyed watching the food preparations and the architecture is neat. We had the short ribs, ribeye and flank steak... all were good but nothing to remember. The hostess was very warm and friendly... she may have been the highlight of the evening!

Although it was a neat venue - an beautiful church with stain glass windows- the menu was extremely limited and very expensive. Probably won't go back again.

This restaurant was suggested by a tour guide earlier in the day. The decor of a church now restaurant was just beautifully done. The waitress answered all of our questions and made suggestions. The portions were enough that we were satisfied but not leaving over full.

One of the most memorable places for a fine meal. The place is impressive and the food matched the majesty of the massive dining room. We ate on the upstairs balcony overlooking the downstairs bar. Seating was wonderful with nobody else next to us. Our server, named Josh was full of personality and perfectly attentive. If you want great food in an exceptional setting, this place will meet your needs. By the way, we had all courses including wine and an after dinner tawny port.

The steak was not cooked as requested and very salty. The twice baked potato was too sour or almost a hint of vinegar. The gnocchi was very good as was the consume. We each ordered dessert and the tres lechewas horrible. I’ve have this in the past and it was really bad in both taste and presentation. Overall we were all disappointed.

Grace is a beautiful restaurant and service is always good. The balcony is best for noise level - the first floor can get noisy. The food was good but not special. It's hit or miss for food. I have been there when the food was great . It's always worth going.

Would love to rate the food but can’t as they refused to serve us. We asked if we could order from the bar menu as opposed to the regular menu and I believe this upset the staff so they told us we couldn’t be served.. Rude treatment by management when we complained. Would never return.

Delightful meal! Great menu, great service, reasonable value. Each menu item chosen was prepared to perfection, and presented beautifully… with unique and fresh ingredients put together in unusual, surprising combinations. Each one of our party of four enjoyed every aspect of their meal (and the drink selections) immensely. This, together with the ambience of the beautifully renovated and cleverly newly-designed church setting, made the meal one to remember. Great art too.
Will return when next in Portland.

This was our first visit to Grace - convenient for a concert evening at Merrill. The setting was spectacular, our server (Madison) was outstanding and we enjoyed our entrees , wine and dessert. While fairly expensive, it was well worth the price for a special evening out.

we sat on the balcony, which I recommend. Cocktails were strong, wine list very good. Oysters! Get St. John's if you can. Ate duck and risotto with venison. Excellent and quantity perfect.

Brought the wrong entree to me and had to wait while the restaurant prepared the correct entree -- while in the meantime my husband had to eat his entree so it did not get cold. Brief apology from waiter -- nothing from management. Not even a complimentary glass of wine as an apology.

Cookie dessert -- gooey mess.

Grace is a special gem in Portland. We spent the whole two hours of our dinner oo-ing and ah-ing over how impressive the space is. Our waitress was superb and the food was some of the best I've had since living in NYC. GO HERE!!

We were curious to see Grace since it was a converted church. We had dinner there the same night they were starting a new menu. The food was decent, the ambiance was nice, but our waiter was really inattentive and the place wasn’t busy, so there was really no excuse. We will not be returning.

We dined here for our anniversary Saturday evening. The atmosphere was amazing and it is an absolutely beautiful restaurant. We had a table for 2 set up on the second floor balcony. Our drinks and appetizers were very good (meat and cheese board, oysters, and strawberry jalapeño margaritas). The menu selection for entrees was very limited and nothing special. We ordered the ribeye and frogmore stew. The stew was very bland with little to no seasoning and mostly potatoes rather than seafood. The ribeye we ordered medium rare, but came served at a temperate below rare as I doubt it even reached 130 degrees. The steak was coated in sauce and salt leaving us asking for more water and not wanting to finish. We let the server know and she told us that it was a new grill cook who was on his second day. Nothing was removed from the bill and they brought us 2 glasses of their house champagne as we politely declined to continue to dessert. Overall, we would definitely go back for drinks and apps at the bar before dinner elsewhere. We left hungry and disappointed.

As a former congregant of the church that was in this building, I have been resistant to dining here. The conversion from sanctuary to restaurant was very sensitively done and the beauty of the room was meticulously preserved. The finest features of this historic room/building are still in evidence and the food and service are superb. It has Class without pretention and is a great value. Our waitress (Madison) was very good and if she is a sample of the other wait staff, you can't go wrong. We all agreed that we have never had a better wait person. I highly recommend!

Excellent overall experience! They did an amazing renovation of this historic church in downtown Portland. Loved the way they incorporated the beauty of the original wood work and stained glass into a modern restaurant. The atmosphere, service, and food all exceeded expectations. Dinner at Grace is a must when visiting Portland!
