New menu items are introduced each season, the wine list is always evolving, and the dining room is regularly revamped.
Gotham Bar and Grill has been honored as Most Outstanding Restaurant in the nation by the James Beard Foundation, which named Chef/Owner Alfred Portale Most Outstanding Chef in the nation for 2006.

WOW! Gotham Grill was exceptional in every way. The ambiance was comfortable and conducive to conversation. The service was attentive helpful and not overwhelming. The food was excellent. On top of all of that the staff accommodated the birthday celebration for a 6 year old. Kudos to everyone. First rate!!!

Amazing food, perfect ambience, brilliant food and wine service.
Perfect as usual in every but one: we arrived at 12:27 for our 12:30 and the hostess rudely sat two parties who came after us before us. It was rude, embarrassing, and completely out of step with Gotham's usual impeccable graciousness. We have been dining at Gotham for 25 years, an average of 15 times per year.

Great food, service and ambience, but wine list pricing is exceedingly high i.e. very difficult to find anything reasonable below $200 a bottle, when you add in nyc service charges the total cost becomes difficult to justify. A shame as it would be easy to create an excellent range of wine choices below this price level.
An altogether positive experience. THe food is superb, the service attentive but not intrusive.
If you have a short waitress with a puffy round face I recommend moving to another section of the restaurant. It’s not that she is nasty she actually knows the menus quite well;However shes so negative and depressed that she is able to detract from what would otherwise be a fantastic dinner.
Great dinner...bar is wonderful, great drinks and really enjoyable and hip atmosphere.
Gotham still delivers- excellent food and superb service. The cocktails are tasty as well. Wine list is extensive.

For out of towners, it's a New York experience must. It's what you expect a great New York restaurant to be,sophisticated, great food and setting. You can relax and enjoy your meal and company without feeling rushed. It's our favorite special occasion place, we always bring friends who are pleasantly surprised that it's not some overpriced, trendy night spot.

I used to come here years ago when I first lived in Manhattan and now I'm back and had an outstanding lunch with my cousins. Food was creative, delicious and the highest quality ingredients. Service was great as well. Just like I remembered. I'm so happy I moved a couple of blocks away! It may well become my "go to" restaurant.
We found the place great, food very good (except the salmon dish as the vegetables on it were a little on a tangy side), and the service\ice was excellent. The price was very high though.
My wife and I had the prix fixe lunch and we were not disappointed. The soup was very tasty but the salad was even better. For our mains we had the chicken and the fish - both were delicious. The chocolate cake for desert was yummy. The wine by the glass featured on the lunch menu was excellent. Service was impeccable.
A little slow in being seated , the Maitre , Joseph , could not have been more gracious and professional. He and the excellent wait staff all contributed for what was a wonderful dining experience.

Seated promptly. Initially service was slow then it picked up and all was good. Great meal. Great atmosphere. Looking forward to going back when I’m NYC again.

Never lets us down. Superb meal from start to tarte.
I took my husband for his birthday and we had Charles the waiter. It was amazing food and service. The lobster and pork chop were delicious and the tuna tartar and oysters were amazing quality.
My only call out- you guys have to cover that popcorn ceiling :-)

Excellent food; superb service. Only negative was the wine list -- a giant hole in selections from $75 to $200. Sommelier was able to locate a bottle upon request, not on the wine list, for $190. The bottle's retail price is about $70. I will consider other dining options before returning to Gotham solely because of the limited and highly marked up wine list.
Great food, Portale is a master - but a bit pricey and that also go for the wine. Should put more importance on prezzo/qualitat. Winelist is fantastic, but very expensive - should be some more high quality and low prices items in there. Service is also a little bit snobby. But the New York strip I had was great.
We really enjoyed the meal and the service. It was and is really that good!
Food was over the top excellent. Highlights were the 28 day aged steak, the risotto, and the strawberry burrata salad and chocolate cake. Wines by the glass were great. Unfortunately the service was poor. Our waitress seemed a bit disinterested, was unhelpful in her recommendations and disappeared the last 20 minutes. Cost was about $140 person including tip, a very fair price for what we ordered and drank.

This is a most elegant restaurant with classy decor and impeccable service! The food was very high quality but lacked an element of surprise. Overall, we loved the experience and especially the staff. We thought that the service was a huge plus.
One of my favorites!!! The one thing I like about this restaurant is it's always consistent in excellent service and exceptional food.
The strip steak was perfectly grilled and the risotto was extraordinarily flavorful. I will return to Gotham many times for future special occasions.
As always, Gotham did not disappoint. Delicious food, excellent service and a sophisticated atmosphere for grown ups who enjoy and appreciate an elegant, unstuffy restaurant.

Last time I I dined here was 8 years ago. To be honest I didn’t have huge expectations but the food, service and atmosphere was outstanding!
Best meal on our trip to NYC! Expensive, but don’t you know that going in? Miso Cod was best meal ....maybe ever! YUM!

Gotham Bar and Grill is one of the best restaurants we have been to in all five continents.
The first courses we enjoyed included perfect mushroom risotto, pan seared fois gras, perfect sushi grade tuna and cauliflower soups. Is doe not matter what you choose, all were perfect.
They too offered raw oysters. The special cocktail menu please us all. The wine list is amazing.
My favorite meal is their cod, pefectlly prepared. Also there was salmon and halibut. Halibut good, cod we liked better. The lamb was beautiful. My favorite desert was the pear soufle.
And buy thier cook book was new offerings for all 12 months. Starting to plan the April menus now!
