Gotham Bar and Grill
One of the secrets of Gotham's success is that it is an institution that has never become institutional. The unparalleled quality of the food and service are constants, but the rest of the Gotham experience is constantly updated to keep the restaurant feeling as fresh as the day it opened. New menu items are introduced each season, the wine list is always evolving, and the dining room is regularly revamped.
Gotham Bar and Grill has been honored as Most Outstanding Restaurant in the nation by the James Beard Foundation, which named Chef/Owner Alfred Portale Most Outstanding Chef in the nation for 2006.

The staff greeted us when we arrived and we were seated timely using our reservation time as a barometer. Our waiter came to our table right away and drinks were quickly served. Menu was a little confusing but when we figured it out the oyster appetizers were outstanding including the sauce which had a crisp tangy taste. I enjoyed a rack of lamb cooked exacly as requested and my spouse's pasta dish (taglitella) was prepared to perfection.
The mango based baked alaska dessert was very ddifferent though that portion was quite small.
We had an after dinner drink at the bar which is one of those old NY long bars that totally makes the room. We'll be back.

Lovely and delicious! Gotham never fails to impress!
I have not dined at Gotham Bar and Grill for a few years, and I am delighted to report that they have not lost a step. Excellent food and service in a lovely restaurant that allows for adult conversation. Superb wine list. The menu is full of inventive and well-executed choices. I cannot help but think that, although not inexpensive, Gotham presents a great value when compared to the multitude of "hot" restaurants throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn that offer an uninspired meal at essentially similar price point. Bravo!
Billy is a world class bartender and Dan is an exemplary server.
A wonderful evening all around.
Still one of NY’s best after all these years. Great food and service
Fish was bad. Bread was stale.
Atmosphere was very nice. Food was excellent.
The seat we got was amazing as well as the food.
Favorite place in Manhattan. Food is great and always a pleasant experience.
Food subpar. Risotto was too sour. Chocolate cake was super dark but melted in your mouth.
Bar server is unmannered
All the experience that I had in the restaurant were fabulous!
The food and wines are gorgeous, the servers are so considerate and kind that I really enjoyed the meal, and the atmosphere was also comfortable and warm, which is suitable for all kind of parties!!
If I had one more chance to visit NYC, I would definitely come this restaurant again!!!
My review is the same as the last time. The food quality is excellent and very creative. However compared to other quality restaurants during Restaurant Week, the portions are a little skimpy, especially the entree. The appetizer and dessert are fine but the entree looks like something between an appetizer and an entree. Nevertheless, I would go back because the food is that good.
Perhaps the loveliest restaurant in the Village with a warm ambiance and a personable waiter for our luncheon meal. Excellent ceviche beautifully presented, and a roast chicken entree with a rare depth of flavor. Having come back time and again for the flourless chocolate cake, however, I could tell that something was amiss, and the kitchen confirmed they are no longer using Valrhona chocolate in the recipe- there are many good chocolates, but nothing compares to Valrhona. Even the folks we chatted with at the next table were not so enthusiastic about that dessert.
The food was very good. I understand why restaurants have some supplements for a $26 meal, I sometimes order the more expensive item. But, a $14 supplement is ridiculous. If thy want to add something it should be no more than $10, most restaurants add less.
Place seems dated. Food is good - but should be GREAT for the $$$$.
Service was excellent but value disappointing.
I had the rack of lamb and the ferro risotto. Both spectacular but the risotto was the absolute best I’ve ever had. Service could not be better. Will be visiting again soon.
As always a wonderful experience. The food truly reflects a taste of the menu. My friends loved it and plan on returning with other friends. I love turning friends on to great restaurants.
Not the best Restaurant Week experience here. Think it's too crowded, and we went for a lunch.
It was " get 'em in & out" feel.
And RW prixe fixe menu wasn't interesting.
Best to go to Gotham Bar & Grill at your leisure and for a special & expensive dining experience.
The other services of this restaurant were all friendly. But This restaurant deliberately put Asians in the corner of the store. We did not have any disrespect, but we had to eat at the corner of the shop, We could not have dinner with the white people just because we were Asian. This was a very unpleasant experience.
Every minute of lunch was superb, from the service, food and atmosphere!!!
I went with a friend for lunch during restaurant week. I had not been to the restaurant for a few years. It is a treasure. The food is fantastic, the service was friendly and attentive and very warm. I will return soon with family for another great meal.
I like the dessert, especially the yogurt parfait, chocolate seems to sweet for me but it is so smooth and special. Overall, it is great!
Excellent meal from start to finish. Service was amazing with great suggestions and timing of our meal. Always a special experience.
Elegant setting, lovely meal--wish I could eat there more often. WE dressed jus for lunch; with everyone did.
The temperature of all dishes from the winter squash soup to the entrees was lukewarm. We tried the char, the short ribs, and the roasted chicken. Ironically, the chocolate cake, the best dish of our 3-course tasting, was the warmest dish.
The service was professional and well-timed. The atmosphere was vibrant for lunch. The place was filled up with scores of people waiting at the entrance. Because we sat right next to the entrance, I watched every patron, many boomers, climbing two big steps down extremely carefully to the dining hall. Turning those steps into a ramp would make it more accessible and welcoming.
I was expecting something more memorable than their chocolate cake and the awkward entry steps.
The salad is way to sour. Otherwise bland. The beef short rib is good, but it is very small. I didn’t realize until I received my bill that they charge me 14 dollars extra(written in small letters on the menu) for the short rib that is part of the 26 dollar deal. Overall, vastly disappointing. Good atmosphere but way too expensive.
The food and ambiance were, as always, outstanding. I was however disappointed by their failure to honor my specific seating request, made with my reservation a full month in advance, especially as my requested seats were not occupied while I was eating.
An uncharacteristic flub for this wonderful place which has long been a family favorite.
Great time, great service
Enjoyed the entire experience, especially the courteous and professional staff led by Joseph, who got us checked in, and Nicole, our waiter. Thank you all.
Love the food and character of this restaurant. Our server was excellent and very cooperative and friendly.
Overall it is definitely worth the money. The service was incredible and very attentive without being overwhelming. The champagne was delicious and kept you wanting more. The ambience was great for a conversation And the setting was very comfortable. The food was delicious with every bite that came along through the night. My boyfriend was excited about the plating the service and how well the wine was paired with his lamb. My favorite experience was dessert there was the got them chocolate cake. With this delicious salted almond ice cream that left me flabbergasted. I will definitely come to this restaurant again for another special occasion. Also the maître d’ of that restaurant was incredible
Always a wonderful experience. Can't get better service in NYC - the staff are not just impeccably trained, but they care deeply about their jobs. The ambiance is the perfect combination of elegant & lively. The food and presentation never disappoint (which is certainly reflected by their high prices). If I had to find one thing to quibble about, it's that a great cut of NY strip that's dry-aged, seasoned and seared - one of their iconic entrees - doesn't need to be drowned in bordelaise sauce.
The food was great but I'm not so happy. Because the waiter led us(two) to a table with a very narrow living space. My friend and I cannot sit face to face. Since we are not couples so I feel very awkward to sit so close to my male friend. I know in lunchtime the restaurant was full of customers, especially in the NYC restaurants week. However, I don't think it's a good idea to add a table to an already small space.
I've been blessed to be able to afford dinner on a regular night but everyone should try to schedule a lunch/dinner for restaurant week in NYC. Dining at a Michelin starred restaurant is a can't miss opportunity.
